Chapter 1 - The Beginning

The world of Pokemon.

A big and mysterious world filled with many different kinds of wonders ready to be experienced.

That's what I thought as I sit by myself in a dark cave while listening to the heavy rain falling outside.

'How did it end up like this...' I thought to myself as I huddle my legs closer to my chest and hug them tighter and rethink how I ended up in this situation.

I was just walking down the streets after spending my paycheck on Pokemon merch at the Pokemon Center, and the next thing I knew I was crashed into by a truck as my body was sent flying in the air, hitting and rolling on the ground after my body landed, before coming to a stop by hitting my back on a lamp post and finally losing consciousness after a few seconds later.

And then the next thing I knew, I woke up and found myself in some kind of forest. And I didn't have any wounds either, which surprised me even more.

But before I could think and comprehend what happened to me and where I am, there were a few sounds comimg behind me as the bushes behind me shook.

And what comes out of those bushes?

A giant brown bear with sharp claws that was looking at me with hungry or maybe angry eyes. Probably both.

But that was no ordinary brown colored bear.

On closer observation that giant brown bear in front of me was an Ursaring, a type of Pokemon.

My eyes widden as I see the Ursaring appear behind me but the next thing I knew that Ursaring opened its mouth as a bright light can be shown in it, groing brighter and brighter before firing it at me in a beam of light.

But luckily I acted quickly as I jumped to the side before that beam of light can hit me.

As I fell to the ground the next thing I hear was the sound of an explosion, as I lifted my head up I saw a crater in the ground with scourch marks around it.

I start to panic as I realize what that was.

The Ursaring just fired a Hyper beam at me.

As the dust and smoke clears up from the Hyper beam, the Ursaring saw that I was able to dodge it's attack and it got angry as it roard at me.

And in that moment I quickly got up and started to run for dear life.

I didn't know what direction or where I was running but at that moment I didn't care, as I hear loud footsteps behind me, but I didn't dare look back as I kept running and making multiple different turns trying to lose that deadly bear.

And after a while of running I was able to lose them, but i was in a more mountainy mixed with some forest elements kind of terrain.

I was even more loss.

But my luck didn't get better from there as then I felt a water drop hit my face.

As I look up into the sky, I saw dark clouds starting to cover the sky as more water droplets fell on me.

I start running again trying to find somewhere to take cover from the rain and a few moments later I spotted a cave as I ran into it for shelter from the rain, while hoping that there was no Pokemon in it that wants to kill me.

And to my luck, there wasn't any.

And that's how I ended up in my situation, all wet and huddling in a random dark cave after running from a Pokemon that wanted me dead, not to mention I still had no clue where I was.

I couldn't help but let out a sigh as tears started to run down my face.

I wanted to go home. My warm comfy home, where I can watch my favorite shows and play my favorite video games.

An Otaku like me was not made to survive the wilderness by their own, especially in the world of Pokemon where every creature can kill you with ease.

"Shit!" I screamed in anger.

I loved reading and watching shows and manga about where the main character gets isekaied into another world but this...

"I can't..." I said in a sad tone as more tears came down my face.

And the worse of it all, I was isekaied into another world without some kind of system or ability like those main characters that I read and watched about.

I was completely helpless...

In a random place that I don't even know and to top it all off, I don't even have any thing to help me.

No system, no ability, no survival skills, no nothing...

"I'm dead..." That was all that I could say at that moment.

"Why..."

"Why why why! Why did it have to be me!"

"Out of everyone in the world, I'm the least qualified for this!" Tears keep falling from my face as I scream in anger.

"At least give me something so I have some kind of chance to survive!"

"Even just one ability or skill!"

"And it doesn't have to be that OP! Just something like appraisal would do!"

"What the!?!?!" The sudden voice caught me off guard as I quickly stood up and looked around, but there was no one.

{You have the option of spending 100 skill points to acquire the skill Appraisal (Level 1)}

{Acquire the skill?}

"Oh my God..."

"I do have a system!!! Thank you God or whoevers up there!!!" I screamed as tears of joy and relief came down my face.

Then I wiped my tears as I shouted happily.

"Hell yes!!! Acquire me that skill!!!"

{Appraisal (Level 1) has been acquired}

"Yes!!!"

"Appraisal is a super useful and super handy cheat skill in isekai stories!!!"

"Who cares if it took all my points! With it I have a chance of surviving this world after all!!!"

"And now it's time to test it out!" I cheered.

I then looked at the ground as I picked up a random rock that was close to me.

"This may appear to me a perfectly ordinary rock, but if I use Appraisal on it then... Surprise!"

{Rock} the voice said.

"Huh???"

"Oh come on Appraisal-san, you're such a prankster! Show me what you can really do!"

"Ok, one more time! Appraisal!" I shouted as I used the skill on the rock again.

"..."

"Ok..."

"Maybe it is just an ordinary rock."

"A rock is just a rock I guess" I said as I threw the rock to the ground.

"But maybe if I use this skill on the cave wall then it might tell me what cave I'm in or where I am or just any information about this cave... Right?" I said as I faced one of the caves wall.

"It probably will... Here goes nothing!" I said as I used Appraisal.

After I heard that I just stood there in disbelief as I kept using Appraisal on the cave wall, hoping to get more than "Wall" from it.

I kept using Appraisal on the wall for a few minutes before stopping and droop down onto my knees.

"This skill..." I said in a low tone.

"Is completely useless! Why did I even bother getting this skill!!!" I screamed as I stood up and started to stomp the ground and kick the stupid wall.

"I can tell that its a damn fucking wall!!!"

"There's got to be more you can tell me or something!"

"You can't be this useless!!!"

Then I stopped my attack on the wall as I got tired from kicking it and stomping the ground in anger for a few minutes, as I catch my breath.

"Calm down Orion. Your probably over thinking it... Just think in reverse." I said to myself.

"I mean that voice did say the skill is level 1 so maybe that's the reason... Yea, Yea! That has to be the reason!"

"I'll just think of it this way." I said as I sat back down on the ground, still tired and catching my breath.

"Might as well use it on myself..." I said as I used Appraisal on myself after a moment to think.

{Human}

"I expected as much..."

"Ok Orion, think. What can you do in this situation..."

"..."

"I can always try to level up and gain more skill points, that's how it works in the novels and video games."

"But usually you have to kill mobs or enemies to level up..."

"Oh God."

"Do I have to kill Pokemon to level up?" I shudder at the thought.

"I mean... It is survival of the fittest out in nature."

Then my stomach growls in hunger.

"Looks like I'm hungry..."

"But I can't exactly go out in the pouring rain to look for food..."

"And there's no way I'm going deeper into the dark cave by myself with no source of light, that's just a death wish waiting to come true..."

I then let out a deep sigh.

"I can't do much until the rain clears..."

"But maybe I can pass the time by leveling up Appraisal."

"You usually have to use a skill multiple different times before it can level up, so maybe If I just keep using Appraisal on something it can level up and be more useful!"

Then I picked up a rock as I used Appraisal on it multiple times.
