Thus after a quick laugh and washing the dishes the four of them plus Joy all retired to their separate tents where Foxx and James shared one while Jesse And Dawn shared the other. Let us first shuffle off to the tent where Foxx, James and Joy were just now getting into their sleeping bags for the night.
"Son, can I ask you a personal question?" asked James as they both began to lay down.
"Yah what's on your mind dad." replied Foxx as he tried to turn on his side and still be comfortable.
"Are you embarrassed to call us your parents?" asked James with a slight hint of sadness.
"What makes you think that?" asked Foxx a bit taken back and with a slight hint of sadness in his heart that his father even thought this.
"Then why do you still go by Foxx Oak now that you know that we are your real parents?" asked James still not wanting to make eye contact as well as trying to shuffle around to get comfortable and off the tree root that he seems to always end up getting.
"Because that's my name." confusingly replied Foxx with a raised eyebrow in part because of the question and part because of his father's constant squirming. "I mean everyone just refers to you as Jesse and James, no last name so I honestly don't know what your last name is father."
"Really? Here I thought everyone knew what my name was especially after that Twerp and his friends as well as your mom and meowlth discovered my family estate." confessed James still unable to find an tree root free spot to lay.
"Wait what estate?" asked Foxx in confusion.
"Oh, yah that's right you've never met your grandparents. Maybe after this whole thing is over and before we all settle down to create your lab we can all go to visit them." replied James with a smile.
"I think that would be wonderful father." replied Foxx with a smile, "Now can I ask you a question?"
"What's up son?" asked James considering giving up on try to find a tree root free spot.
"What are you doing? Like why can't you just lay still?" questioned Foxx with a raised eyebrow.
"Oh, um, well there is a tree root on this side of the tent and like always I seem to be the one to find it and now I can't seem to find a spot that doesn't put it in my back or side." confessed James with a sigh.
"Do you want to swap sides?" asked Foxx a bit concerned for his father.
"No son it's okay I've gotten used to it by now." replied James with a smile as he finally stopped searching for a comfortable spot and just laid still.
"Have you ever talked to mom about how you always end up with the tree root?" asked Foxx as he slowly sat up thus causing Joy to roll down his chest to his lap before she then glared up at him like he's crazy.
"Oh, I could never make her swap spots and make her sleep on the tree root." replied James. "Could you do that to Dawn?"
"No but I would invest into a better tent, sleeping bag slash air mattress or something over all the time you two have been traveling together." teased Foxx with a smile before scooping up Joy and standing up before motioning to where he'd just been laying before adding, "Why don't you sleep over here for tonight."
"First off there were plenty of times we were lucky enough to have the money for food let alone an real camping gear." confessed James as he hesitated to take Foxx's spot.
"And second you will gladly take that spot so we can both get a good night's sleep." added Foxx before James could come up with some kind of excuse as to why he couldn't take his spot.
"You're not going to let me sleep if I don't are you?" sighed James as he started to shift over into the place where Foxx had been laying.
"Nope and if you keep Joy up I can't make any promises to what she may or may not do." replied Foxx with a grin.
"Figured." sighed James as he made himself comfortable.
"Hay she can be extra cranky when she doesn't get a full night's sleep." teased Foxx as he laid down just right to avoid the tree root to which he smiled and added, "There are the advantages of having a smaller body."
"Oh just rub it in why don't you." huffed James playfully turning his back towards Foxx and Joy, who'd snuggled up close to Foxx and was beginning to drift off to sleep.
"Well, I can't help it that I got my slim figure from both you and mom and not your height. Besides I'm ten and you're what thirty something?"
"Twenty Seven." corrected James as he turned back to facing Foxx and Joy, who Foxx was snuggling like a stuffed animal.
"Really? I would've thought you and mom were much older." replied Foxx with a questioning glance, "I mean not like super old but maybe closer to Mrs. Ketchum's age."
"Nope we're both twenty-seven son." replied James with a brief smile of which only faded as he added, "Oh, and I highly recommend not ever mentioning to your mother that she looks old even if you just mean a little older then you."
"Thanks for the warning father." replied Foxx with a yawn before the two of them closed their eyes and slowly drifted off to sleep.
This part of their adventure was now over and in the morning the next leg of the race was about to begin. What new wonders await our friends? Only time will tell, as for the girl's their night's tale is yet to be told and who knows when exactly Foxx will get to meet his grandparents? Stay tuned to see where our adventure goes.
So I've gotten caught up for the time being and hopefully until the end of this season I can remain caught up. Thanks again all of you for your support. Have a blessed day.
