[Knuckle Badge: The power of all Fighting-type Pokémon moves on the team is increased by 10%, and Flash is upgraded to "Secret Flash."]

Chris pocketed the Knuckle Badge and started testing the changes after the Flash technique became "esoteric."

In the game, the effect is easy to see. The Flash technique still lowers the opponent's accuracy, but now it reduces it by two levels instead of one.

Reality, however, required testing.

Chris instructed Kirlia to use Secret Flash, watching as Kirlia quietly nibbled on an Oran Berry.

"Kirlia?"

"Use Flash."

"Kirl~" Kirlia raised her hands to activate it, but Chris stopped her.

"Let me grab some sunglasses first." He pulled them from his bag, then nodded for Kirlia to continue.

With a wave of her hand, a football-sized ball of light appeared, making the entire room as bright as a sun, but without heat. Even with sunglasses on, Chris had to squint.

"We could use this as a real flash." After Kirlia dimmed the light, Chris took off his sunglasses.

Kirlia began to play with the light ball, making it flash and change colors.

The key difference between Secret Flash and the standard Flash skill in reality lies in the ability to control its duration, brightness, and color.

Emmm, how to put it...

No need to turn on lights at home anymore. And with a bit more effort, you could have your own dance party, with Kirlia now more like a nighttime DJ with her own sparkling light ball.

Compared to Secret Cut, the enhanced Secret Flash doesn't seem to hold as much importance.

Flash is the only non-aggressive skill among the TM techniques, so its weaker performance is understandable.

Besides Secret Flash, after defeating Brawly in Dewford Gym, Chris also earned a "Bulk Up" skill TM and Brawly's Breeder expertise for Fighting-type Pokémon.

Bulk Up increases attack and defense when used in battle.

As a Fighting-type Pokémon, Combusken can learn it.

Reality differs from games, though.

BUFF moves like Swords Dance and Dragon Dance not only boost stats in battle but also have long-term training benefits, which can permanently strengthen Pokémon to some degree.

That's why Brawly's Machoke had such a powerful build.

Chris opened Brawly's Breeder notes.

The notes were similar to Roxanne's, detailing the Breeder experience for the three Pokémon Brawly used in their battle: Meditite, Machoke, and Hariyama. Chris was particularly interested in Hariyama, as it could be useful for his own Makuhita.

Still, reading about Meditite and Machoke's training could prove useful.

Yesterday's exam on the Nosepass Breeder plan made Chris realize that even if he didn't immediately need certain knowledge, learning more never hurt, whether for consulting others or improving his own Pokémon.

Chris picked up Brawly's notes and soon found a useful combo in Meditite's training: Fake Out + Force Palm.

The idea is to strike with Fake Out, then immediately follow up with Force Palm.

This combo isn't rigid; the true formula is "contact move + Force Palm."

While Force Palm remains constant, Fake Out can be replaced by any contact move.

For example, Combusken could use it with Double Kick.

The moment Combusken's kick made contact with the opponent, it simultaneously unleashed the Force Palm move.

This way, you could deal two layers of damage at once! Since Double Kick strikes twice, it could deliver four hits in total!

Of course, landing a Force Palm from a leg attack is much harder than from the arm, and timing the Force Palm just as the kick connects is even more challenging.

For Combusken to learn this combo, it won't be that simple.

Frogadier might be able to learn Force Palm too, so... Cut + Force Palm?

It's like using a kunai to set off a detonating tag! If not done correctly, Close Combat might backfire and hurt the user too!

Then... maybe I can modify Force Palm into something like Quash? I'll have to wait for Frogadier to evolve into Greninja and learn "Water Shuriken" before I try that.

Chris kept reading.

Meditite's Breeder experience also outlined training methods for Force Palm and Calm Mind.

Unlike skill discs, which let Pokémon instantly master a move, Brawly's notes explained how a Pokémon could learn a move through special training.

Chris immediately planned Force Palm training for Combusken and Frogadier. Calm Mind training was perfect for Kirlia, as it could boost her Confusion and Special Attack.

Next was Machoke's Breeder experience, detailing the training style for "Bulk Up."

Chris also arranged this training for Combusken and Frogadier, though he wasn't sure if Frogadier could learn Bulk Up. Even if Frogadier couldn't fully master it like Machoke, any improvement would be valuable.

Finally, the Breeder experience of Hariyama revealed training methods for "Aura Sphere" and "Fake Out."

Fake Out wasn't too complicated; if a Pokémon could harness Fighting energy, it could learn the move.

Aura Sphere, however, required training starting from the Vacuum Wave move and demanded the talent of "aura manipulation"—a gift possessed by only one in a thousand Pokémon.

Chris wasn't sure if Combusken or Frogadier had this gift, but he would try to teach them regardless.

After finishing Brawly's notes, Chris sighed in satisfaction.

It seemed that a Gym Leader's Breeder experience was more valuable than the Secret Techniques, Gym Badge, or skill discs.

Excited, Chris turned back to Roxanne's notes, which he had only skimmed before, and dove in more thoroughly.

Geodude's Breeder experience described training methods for "Defense Curl" and "Rock Polish."

Onix's notes explained how to train "Rock Slide" and "Harden."

Finally, Nosepass's experience covered the training style for "Thunder Wave."

These four skills weren't particularly useful for his current team, but they'd be invaluable when he trained Rock or Electric-type Pokémon in the future.

Chris carefully gathered all the Breeder notes, realizing how precious they were.
