Chapter 20

I sat and watched on the boardwalk as Jackson walked in the lake with Paisley in his arms, frequently dipping her feet in the water. I turned when a car pulled behind me; I smiled as Shelby got out running toward me.

She plopped down beside me "Is there a reason you're sitting here alone?" I smiled and looked at the sky "No. Just enjoying today." She pulled something from her bag "I got us this. I saw it and was sure you'd love it."

I held a miniature keychain that had two halves of a heart that wrote "not sisters by blood, but sisters by heart" when you put them together. I handed her half to her, and she smiled "I'm proud of you. I hope you know that you are amazing and deserve happiness."

I held the keychain in my hand "I love it. Thank you." Jackson approached with Paisley "What's up?" He sat beside me, carefully placing Paisley on the boardwalk. Shelby looked at him then at me and smiled "You both are amazing." Jackson faked a smile with an awkward stare "Thanks?"
