Chapter 17

"You're really getting cocky for a fledgeling demi-god," That blonde fucker said, assuming a stance with his gladius in hand.

"Me? Cocky? I think you meant confident," I said.

"There's a fine line between being arrogant and being confident, and from my point of view, I'm in the line of confidence," I followed, which made Luke's eyebrow furrow.

"But first of all, before I smite you, I wanna know why you're doing this?" Of course, I need to know the motive behind his action, not out of compassion but out of curiosity. After all, I want to know why this supposed idolized demi-god went rogue and joined the dark side.

"You really wanna know?"

"Then tell me this, after you were born, have you ever been recognized by your parents?" He said. Even though he was preparing for battle, I could still feel the spite and pettiness in his tone.

"Nothing, right?"

"They are like that, those accursed gods, mingling with mortals resulting in the creation of us, yet they neglect us. And even if we do something that deserves praise, they won't even give it to you."

"They have been sitting on their high thrones for far too long. With the resurrection of Lord Kronos, the Gods' tyranny will come to an end," he said with full spite and passion.

After giving him a full second of silence, I replied.

"That's it? Well, I can't say I can sympathize," I said. "Cause I don't," I quickly followed.

"So why don't we start this bullshit already and get this over with?" I declared, and it seemed that he had the same idea too. I don't really have my gear on me. I don't need a sword nor a shield in hand, while Luke was armored and geared, but does that bother me? Nope, not in the slightest.

I fought monsters for as long as I can remember, and if you pile up the corpses of the enemies I have slain, you will have a hill of corpses. And all of those corpses resulted from my pure raw strength and lightning powers. None of those resulted from swords, as I only discovered them a few weeks ago.

Luke took the initiative and dashed at me with the gladius in his hands. He didn't scream a battle cry or something, because I'm sure that would alert the entire camp. Instead, he took a quiet stride.

"Hup!" He did a frontal horizontal swing, aiming to decapitate me. But I was faster than he could've ever imagined. I ducked simply upon his attack and crouched lower, then pushed him with my palm, hitting him point blank on his chest.

"This? Is this the skill of the so-called strongest swordsman in three hundred years?" I taunted him further, slowly breaking down his mental fortitude.

Upon my insult, he gritted his teeth. He continued to attack me, this time with much more fury. His cold anger fueled his attack as he launched more and more powerful sword strikes.

Lower sweep, aimed at the legs!

Luke, after creating distance between me and him, positioned himself in the most optimal form. He swept his blade horizontally to the ground, aiming to cut off my legs. His attack was indeed impressive and left me with little option to dodge. But who am I? I'm the magnificent Marcusius Phaseus (I just made it up). This much won't faze me.

With a little jump, I dodged Luke's impressive sweep attack. Seeing that his attack failed, he immediately transitioned into another offense. He spun around, using the momentum of his previous attack, with my torso as his target.

But of course, as usual, I dodged his spinning assault by taking a huge step back. A step enough to dodge him and enough to create distance between the two of us for my lightning.

I stretched my hands, widened my five fingers, and aimed them at Luke forward. Then I released five small beams of lightning from them.

This took Luke by surprise, as this was my first time showing it here in the camp. Fortunately for him, he managed to put up his shield just at the right time; otherwise, he would've been fried.

"Surprised?" I asked him with an arrogant grin. Even though he managed to block my attack, it seems that some still passed through, judging by his shaking hands.

"Shut up!" He shouted at me, once again lunging forward with his gladius. He cocked his sword back and thrust it in a frontal high stab, aiming for my head.

And as usual, it didn't even take me an effort to dodge his attack. Tilting my head sideways was enough to evade his gladius.

After his gladius passed beside my head, I front-kicked him with my foot, sending him stumbling to the ground.

Luke was fuming with anger from his failure to even scratch me. He seemed to finally realize that he's not just outpowered and outclassed, but he's overwhelmed by the sheer difference between us.

Knowing that he's going to keep failing if he tries to continue fighting me with a sword, he brought up the master bolt and aimed it at me.

"Oh no you don't!" I shouted at him and immediately dashed. To his surprise, I was faster than he thought. Before he could even unleash any attack from that master bolt, I had already snatched it from his hands.

Upon contact, I felt an immediate connection between the master bolt and myself. It was as if my body was a thirsty traveler in a desert, and the bolt was an oasis.

But I ignored the feeling of consuming the bolt's energy when I suddenly felt a rustle in the leaves just meters away from us.

"L-Luke? Marcus?" A figure said, revealing himself to the two of us.

It was Pollux, Mr.D's son from Dionysus Cabin.

"What are you doing here!?" I shouted at him. Fuck, this was a dangerous situation. I had the master bolt in my hands, and anyone could easily misunderstand.

Seeing the open window of opportunity, Luke shouted to him.

"Polux! He's a traitor! He is the lightning thief!" That fucking blonde bastard!

"No, this isn't what it looks like!" I shouted, about to defend myself. But looking at Pollux's convinced expression, it seems that he already believes the bullshit Luke was spouting.

"It's Luke who stole the bolt! I defeated him and got this from him!"

"Don't believe him, Pollux! He's deceiving you!" That bastard Luke was really pushing it.

Weighing the situation right now, Pollux is more likely to believe Luke since he has been here longer than anyone and has gained their trust long ago.
