Chapter 23 The World

'Why did I miss such an important hint?'

He quickened his pace and running forward. He needs to enlarge the distance between them and the beast's den. After realizing that the beast was a sacred beast, he knows they would be chased down soon.

No wonder the Qilin give that look earlier. That disdain and disgust look as if saying he was an idiot.

Thankfully the mother beast's species should not be the flying-type sacred beast. Or else, even if they had run away as far as they could, the mother beast could easily catch up. And remembering the legend about dragons, phoenixes and so on, each, and every one of them had high wisdom and intelligence.

Thinking about this, he once again noticed he had also forgotten that Qilin is also a sacred beast!

They had been together for a while, but he always called him stupid horse, or stupid Qilin. No wonder the guy didn't give him face and gets angry as soon as possible.

It was said in novels and legends that sacred beast position was lofty. They have arrogance and pride in their bone. As higher beings, they looked down on humans as inferior beast. They had once established unrivaled civilizations of their own.

Of course, it is undeniable that they have capital for being proud. High wisdom, higher affinity to the world, able to use world's elements and rules to fly, breath fire, easily create dirt wall and manipulate water. Plus, stronger and more resilient physical body, they are capable to rival even the strongest hot weapon such as missiles and so on.

Well, at least that's what the novels and anime described them as. Whether it was true or not, Lin Ren do not know.

Thinking of all the stories he had read and heard about, Lin Ren decided to ease the relationship between them.

"Hey, Qilin brother! That...cough. As Qilin I'm sure you have much better hearing than I do, right? With your noble sacred beast bloodline, you are someone who have extraordinarily senses. So, maybe, could you help distinguish where the river is at? We need to clean our body."

He tried his best to flatter the young Qilin. He knows the guy was angry just now. Though he felt inexplicable for the unreasonable anger and hostility the Qilin had shown towards him, he felt he needs to first calm him down.

Lin Ren felt that the guy might have some misunderstanding towards him. Or maybe he himself had accidently angered and offended the Qilin while he didn't notice it. So, in this situation, it is best to first calm the Qilin's anger and gradually improve their relationship.

Thus, he tries his best to coax and give a flattering smile. He had never tried to flatter some like this before, so his smile felt inexpensive and ugly.

But who can blame him? This was a life and death situation. And they were both on the same boat now. No matter what had happened, they need to get along with each other.

The young Qilin merely looked at him contemptuously. He only thought this guy must be stupid.

'Does this kid think I'm a stupid? Why would I, the great sacred beast, ran this way in this direction?'

'Does he think that I choose this way because I was panicked and had to follow him? Well, admittedly I had indeed panicked. I never thought our luck would lead us to that den.'

'But nevertheless, even when I was panicked, my almost 90 years of experience had already told me that I need to clean myself!'

Snort! The Qilin kept complaining in his heart and continue running away. He even quickened his pace to leave behind the kid.

Lin Ren only dumbfoundedly look towards the young Qilin back who was leaving him behind fast. The arrogant look and disgust from the Qilin's eye told him, the Qilin was bearing a grudge.

"Hey, I'm sorry okay. Though I don't know why you are mad at me. But I'll apologize. So, you shouldn't be angry anymore. Look we are in the team now. I'm sorry if I somehow had offended you."

"Sigh. Fine, I won't trouble you. I'll look for the river myself, okay?"

He kept shouting to the Qilin, but the guy kept ignoring him.

They continue to run forward, deeper and deeper into the forest.

The forest was very large and wide. Tall trees were everywhere with lush and rich vegetations all around. If an expert were travelling here, they could find various herb and efficacious medicine here.

The sound of small insects, the smell of fresh air, the clean and orderly ground, this place did not have the feeling of what a forest should be like, but a rather carefully cultivated large park and garden. Though the existence of wild weeds, lush bushes and large piercing to the sky trees clearly telling Lin Ren that this was indeed a forest.

The air was fresh, clear was full of vitality. The humidity was low and there's no moldy air. This should show that around here there's no stagnant water like swamp and so on. This part of the forest should be safe.

As they were running along, Lin Ren suddenly remembered something he had forgotten when he was in panic previously.

"STATUS...open MAP"

Suddenly there's large window popping out in front of him, two feet away in front of him. Seeing this, he stopped his footstep and observe the map.

Unlike the inventory window where only he could see it as the ring directly send the image signal into his consciousness, this one does not.

Why does Lin Ren know that? Because the young Qilin who was running in front of him, who had occasionally glance at Lin Ren from time to time, suddenly stopped in surprised. The guy first gave a glance at Lin Ren's hand then later focused on the map.

Lin Ren who had never forgotten to pay attention to the Qilin, noticed all the guy's reactions and responds. He had previously guessed that the guy should know about the ring. And now he'd confirmed it. But thinking back, it was not surprising that he knows about it. The Qilin was raised in Lin family's backside of the mountain by the family. He should have met many older generations of Lin Family.

As they stopped running, Lin Ren shifted his attention to the map window. The map was very detailed. At first glance there's a lot of stuff going on.

There's several continents, vast oceans, and numerous islands. Well, that's to be expected since most habitable planet's topography was like that, but for this place the vastness of the world was incomparable to the Earth.

Looking through the map shown in the menu, the map does not generate with respect to the planet's northern southern magnetic pole as its up and down and the Greenwich line as its center. It was unknown whether this world had ever held its own version of International Meridian Conference.

Instead, the ring used Lin Ren's then location as its center and spread the scanning outwards. Using the observation from the planet's magnetic field it had sensed, the sun's direction as well as the assumption that the planet was orbiting counterclockwise (like majority of any other celestial bodies), the current map was generated.
