(The next day)
Together with Richard, we went to the student council office. We could hear talking inside, so we are a bit nervous.
We had talked over this yesterday. At first Richard was kind of reluctant to join, but after a bit of thinking he changed his mind, and he will consider it after he heard about the conditions from the president.
And me? I was already planning to join them on my fourth grade if I weren't invited. Joining a year earlier just makes my job easier.
Besides this, I also talked about manners with Richard, since he is indeed kind of dense in regards to these. I was worried that he'd embarrass us by messing up manners, so I just told him to do whatever I do.
"You ready?" Richard took the lead.
"Yeah..." I was a bit nervous, and I unconsciously played with the tail of my hair again. I found that whenever I am nervous, I do this a lot....
He knocked on the door.
"Come on in."
Richard opened the door and we both entered the room. It's a nice office similar to the one the principal, which is at the opposite building. This room being exactly the same as the room parallel to it is likely a design choice.
And just like the principal's room, this one is also an office with bookshelves for documents, a couch for resting and a desk as work space.
Inside the room is 3 person, all of which wears black blazers compared to our blue ones. And they also had red arm straps on their blazer's sleeves, which is rather fashionable.
"Welcome in, you two. What business do we have here?"
"We are here to discuss matters about joining the student council. You invited us two after all. " Richard showed his letter, while I showed mine.
"Of course I know that, it was just a figure of speech. So, since you are here anyway that must mean you two have made up your mind about joining us. Now, what do you want to know? "
"Kyrie you wanna ask first?"
"Right... What exactly will our job be? What exactly does a Security Ensurer does?"
"Job? It's less like a job, and more like a role at school, just like being a class monitor. As for what exactly an Ensurer does, you are to patrol the school's hallway, just like the guards does in the city. Besides that, you will also help guard the teachers during the morning assemblies."
I remember that there were always four Student Council members who would guard the teachers during morning assemblies. They must be Security Ensurers then.
"Uh huh..."
" Finally, the position of a Security Ensurer is usually involved with combat, things like breaking up fights and beating up trouble makers. This is just what you two have been doing last year, isn't it? "
This guy is saying the truth. Richard has been going around and beating up bad guys, sometimes I join in.
"Well, yea. But what are the perks to taking on this responsibility? Surely you don't expect us to do this as charity."
"You get to have your lunch break earlier... This also counts as a community service, so for the boy next to you that means his misbehaving records would be excused. Finally, you get to dress in the student council's uniform, which in my opinion is a bit more fashionable than the normal uniform hahaha! Besides, certain people would find fun in the fighting involved with the job. I figured you two would be exactly those bunch. "
"Haha, no way we does! Why would we two like to beat up people?"
"Hmm, no? Then how are you so strong not just magically but also physically as well? Both of you is actually so good in combat that just the two of you together you could beat everyone of your grade coming at you all at once. That's how high we value your combat ability, based on just two of your fights. "
Wha.... Come to think of it, this actually sounds true. So far in this school, only Richard could actually compete with me even decently. Being able to compete with me, who had an early start at learning magic, is another feat of itself. I may have underestimated Richard a lot because I beaten him twice, but in reality he is actually really strong.
"So you got anything else to ask?"
"Not really... "
"Then it's my turn... So, senpai, is this thing fun to do?"
"I don't really know what you think is fun, since fun itself is subjective. But honestly if you ask me, it's fun. "
"I see. Well then, my next question. Why did you invite us two?"
"It's simple, you two met the criteria. The criteria for becoming a Ensurer within the student council is that they must be good at fighting, famous with the students, and have partook in at least one duel. You two met the criteria and more, and recently I have heard that you two are getting along surprisingly well, so it's natural to invite you two."
He paused a bit, before he continued talking.
"Besides, Kyrielle-san you are already qualified as an Adept rank mage no? You made quite a fuss 4 years ago, when I was a first grade. "
"...Huh?"
"What? Didn't you fight off 5 goblins alone?"
"Oh yea that one... "
"Kyrie... I can't believe that you are already so strong when you aren't even attending this school... No wonder I lost to you..."
"Haha... I did fight off 5 goblins, but honestly I was just lucky. "
"I see... I have no more questions."
"Then, what's the answer of you two?"
I answered first.
"I actually had planned to join even if you didn't invite me. Thanks for the invitation, this just make my life easier!"
"We are glad to hear this! How about you, Richard?"
"I will be joining as well. This sounds fun, and if it means I get to partake in fights more, then it's suitable for me because I want to improve myself."
"We are glad to hear that from you as well. Then from now on, you two are officially members of the student council! Welcome aboard! "
The other 3 high ranked members of the student council clapped alongside the president.
"Thank you. "
"So, since you two are now the members of the student council, you two should start wearing the student council blazers soon. Is one week a long enough time for you two to buy the coat from a tailor?"
"Yes. "
"Okay. Also, if possible we would like you two to start your work from next week. Is that good enough?"
"If we can get proper training, then I'm confident that both me and Richard can do that. "
"Good. Here is a manual book for you two, there are rules written on it for the student council members to follow. There are also procedures and guides to help your work as well. Finally, for the next week I'll have my secretary show you two how to be Ensurer, because this guy here is a senpai Ensurer. He has experience."
"It's nice to meet you, senpai." (2x)
"Mmmn. I'll be showing you two how to do your job. Is it fine to just gloss over it for now so that you both will be prepared for next week?"
"Okay. We have time after all, there's still half an hour. "
"Great. Please pay attention then. "
Our senpai started explaining exactly what our job is. From what I have heard, our job is really similar to normal members of the student council. What's different is that we have the authority to enact force on the misbehaving students, while a normal member can't.
Things like patroling the hallways during lunch break and end of the school, standing next to the stage during assemblies, and occasionally dueling for sports. Things that might involve combat is our job.
I told my mother about this once I got back home.
"Really?! You of all people?!"
"Why?... Is it that weird?"
"No but... It is a big honor to be invited personally by the Student Council President to join the Security Ensurers. Each year there will only be 4 of them afterall, and most people assigned as one are really good at fighting, that's what I heard from a conversation with the neighbors!"
"Apparently, the president thought so..."
"I see I see! Kyrie I expected you to just be good at magic, but to think that you are good at fighting and properly utilizing magic in combat as well! Come to think of it, you did fight off 5 goblins alone when you were just 4, this makes sense now... From what I have heard, most ensurers graduate as outstanding mages, and a lot of them become master ranked mages!"
"Ohh... I will need to buy a new blazer so can we go shopping this weekend?"
"Of course, if you want us to accompany you then we will. "
(2 days later)
We went to the same tailor that we went to 2 years ago. This time we had Marie along as well, and I once again met the low energy clerk. Something's different this time however...
"Welcome in! "
"Oh my? You look unusually energetic. "
Dad sounds just as surprised as me to find out this clerk got a lot more livelier. Something good must have happened to him that made him more energetic now compared to 2 years ago.
"Am I? I'm just being who I normally am. "
"I see... "
"Oh wait, you are that family from back then... I see you have a new child here. And little miss, you have grown taller now! Last time I saw you, you are really small. Now you are still small, but bigger than you once was already. "
"I am not small!" I pouted in anger.
"Right haha! You are a kid, so don't worry, you will grow fast. Anyway, what can I help you all with?"
"We would like to get a blazer for the student council, for this girl again."
"I see you have joined the student council. That is a bright future you are heading to. "
This guy now talks unusually lot now. I guess he really have changed as a person huh.
"Lilia?" The staff yelled into the store.
"Yes? "
The female staff came out from the back of the shop again. She's pregnant.
"Oh? It's you again." It seems that she recognized us.
"Yep, it's them. Get them a blazer set, student council ones. "
"On it. "
"So, did you two get married?" Dad straight up asked the clerk.
"You are observant aren't you? Yes we did, and now we are in a relationship, happily!"
"Hmm, then are you two married?" Mom asked the important question.
"Not yet, but we plan to do so the next few months, once our kid was born."
"I see, congratulations on your wedding then."
"Thank you! "
We bought the coat, and then went home.
(The next day)
I once again arrived at class. This time however, before the start of the assembly, we had to head out to the assembly field already.
I went together with Richard, where we met two more colleagues that is just like us, Security Ensurers. And for today's assembly, we will be granted our title on stage, that's why we are here now.
We were told by the 'Master of Ceremony' member of the student council who gave us instructions regarding the upcoming ceremony. We are to stand nearby the teacher's place, and guard them. This is because there have been cases where students shot teachers with large spells, and not every teacher is an experienced fighter, that's why they need us.
Though in my two years here there have never been a case like that. This must just be for show.
Anyway, the assembly started and I together with Richard and two others stood near the teachers.
"-this year's Security Ensurer position will be granted to the following colleagues. I will now read their name out. Kyrielle Buffet, the girl who dueled a boy years older than her and still won. She is also the girl who's among the first in our school to use the new sub class of magic known as Magic Techniques, as demonstrated by her 2 years ago. I welcome her to the stage to receive her arm band as the prove of her owning this position. "
The crowd applauded as I went up the stage in my new outfit. Still the same buttoned long sleeved shirt with a skirt, but this time I wore a black blazer instead of a blue one.
I walked forward and received a red armband from the MC, before I walked down the stage and put it on.
"Up next is the boy who was known to be both a trouble maker and a savior. He has dueled Kyrielle and lost, but his skills as a fighter is not to be trifled with. I welcome Richard Boreal onto the stage to receive this arm band!"
Richard went up the stage and took his armstrap before he went down again.
"That's was nerve wrecking..." He talked to me immediately after he went down.
"It's natural to get nervous in front of crowd... I never got used to it after all. Either way we'll be standing in front of the assembly starting from now on..."
"Yea. I hope it's fun. "
The assembly continued with the same thing for 2 other colleagues, before it ends.
"That is all for the new Security Ensurers. I hope that they will get to live up to the expectations of being someone this high ranking. I also hope that students here will cooperate with them, and not make their job any harder. Okay, to continue on with the assembly I will- "
He proceeded to do the same thing as he did with us, but this time it was for the normal members of the student council, and that was the only note worthy thing of the assembly.
About 3 hours later, for lunch break we are to patrol the school. We went together with the Secretary of the student council, and he taught us everything we needed to know.
Patrolling the school is actually just another way of saying walking around the school looking for bad kids to whoop their butts... Well, we are not really whooping their butts but we are checking on their behavior and discipline.
That was how our first day as members of the Student Council went.
After this incident, months have passed and we are getting used to being members of the student council. We took part in lots of events as body guards, and got to play in many different things including language mini games, programs held by the church or the royalty, and even competitions for sports and such.
To be honest this is actually really fun, since we get to play around a lot, and we even get to be dressed in a cool looking black and red blazer than the deep blue blazer that normal students wear.
The only bad thing is that we are busy during the lunch break so we get to play less often with Gerd and Mike. All's fair however because we patrol in pairs and I get to talk with Richard. Mike and Gerd can get to talk to each other as well while we are gone.
Aside from these things, our life isn't all that different from before. We still get to play with each other during the classes and the weekends.
Before I know it though, my life has started becoming more and more busier, so my time perceived time flies by really fast.
The main problem I have is that both my swordsmanship and my magic abilities is still stucked, and I don't even have any time at all to improve them.
However, aside from that, I have no problems and no regrets at all with my current life. Each day, I'm having as much fun as I could, and while there are certainly bad days, most of them are filled with excitement. This fulfills my goal of living my life to the fullest.
And recently I have been doing more and more fighting, so much so that I'm starting to see the excitement and joy in doing so. Our opponents are usually really weak, but the ones that are good enough to put me on edge is really exciting.
Sometimes we would stumble across fightings in the hallway, and we'd break up the fight by force which sometimes escalates into us Security Ensurers fighting as well.
And when these fights escalates into magic fights, we are allowed to use magic on these troublemakers as well, though there isn't any incident like this because no one is actually skilled enough to use spells inside the limiting barrier that Jack casted. Well, no one except me and Richard it seems, that just goes to show how good Richard is with magic.
Other times, people would come challenge either Richard or me to duels. Then they'd be completely overwhelmed at the start of the fight with just the simplest magic combos like Mud Puddle with Rock Sling, which Richard preferred to use, while I frequently used Mana Ball because it's less deadly and more accurate than fire spells.
I have been in 7 duels now, and I actually won all of them. 2 of the duels are actually friendly duels from the other 2 Ensurers. We are from different grades and they are our seniors, but seniors or not they can't handle advanced tactics like feints or ccounter attacking spells, all of which I taught Richard.
The two were boys of the fifth grade, the final grade of the school if you aren't planning on getting Master rank. These two are different from the rest because they are really skilled, enough to not be overwhelmed by me at the start of the fight.
One of them was shot in the abdomen by a Rock Sling which knocked the winds out of him and resulting in a TKO.
The other boy was blinded by my Earth Wall as a distraction. The moment I disintegrated the wall into sand, I shot a rock bullet forward. The Rock bullet went for his head but he dodged it by side stepping.
However, he side stepped right into my follow up attack using my other hand, a Mana Ball, which could've blown his face open had the magic crest on the ground not activate a barrier spell on his face. The force from the magic alone knocked him out, and resulted in a direct KO for me.
Richard also was challenged by those two, and he also had about 7 duels just like me. He also won all of them, out of the 8 duels he had, the only one he ever lost to was actually just me. This made me feel more proud of him.
He used a lot of Earth magic, which is actually really versatile as there is no hard counters to it and isn't weak like wind magic. Water magic is the weakest element, and is usually only for reactions with other elements, but the ice variations of water magic is useful. Wind magic are the second weakest, but they are fast so they are still useful. Mana Ball is actually a wind attack, even though it technically isn't a spell.
And finally, fire element is the most destructive of the four basic elements, if it comes out of me who has an unusually high aptitude for fire magic, it might just be a bit too strong for normal people to handle.
Why's that? I once threw a fully charged fire ball towards the sky in the training field. The fireball hit the tip of the dome barrier, then exploded with the power of a small C4 explosive and it actually cracked the barrier a bit. I didn't dare to use it on actual people.
And the best part is, I actually thought of a stronger version of fireball. I can summon up a normal fireball and fully charge it, and then this is when things get interesting because I will cast a Mana Ball right around the Fireball, feeding it tons of air and increasing it's heat. I used the same concept for Combustion for this.
I can continue charging up the Fireball's explosive power almost indefinitely by feeding it air. If a normal Fireball can crack the barrier, I think this one might just destroy it. The only time I have seen it being destroyed is when the Magic God Lynn shot a Saint ranked abyss spell at it, called 'Black Spear'. Though calling this one a Saint ranked attack magic might be a bit too much.
Someday I want to try to fully charge one of my fused spell and launch it out to see what it can do. My fully charged Mana Ball can rival the power of a black powder cannon of the Victorian era, and that's just with wind pressure from the ball alone. If I put a fully charged fireball into it then would it become as strong as a Howitzer artillery's High-Explosive shells?
Anyway, back from all the tangents, this was how my entire year went. It's actually really interesting.
I heard that if I wanted to I could continue being one the next year, and after a bit of discussing with Richard I think we both like our current position so we might just continue being Security Ensurers. Besides, since we have wiped the floor with so many other kids, I think no one is more qualified for the job other than us...
(Chapter 31 end)
