Just A Normal Day

"…after World War II, many countries came together, forming new international bodies like the Forbidden Mages Association under the Holy City to keep forbidden curse-level mages in check and ensure that no similar incident would ever repeat itself."

Damon half-listened as the old teacher narrated lines from the textbook. It was history class, focusing on international events, which mostly revolved around a certain Austrian hunter who had reached forbidden mage level in curse magic, committed atrocities, and even dared to attack the Holy City.

As mentioned before, notable historical figures from Damon's old world were still recorded, but their legacies were drastically different and now involved magic.

The earliest user of the light element was Edison, while Newton was the pioneer of the space element among humans, both living thousands of years ago. This meant that the timelines in this world were a mess, creating a confusing history. (In the first chapter, it was mentioned that Edison was the earliest user of the light element, but in a later chapter, it was noted that the Holy City had the best legacy of the light element and had existed for around 2000 years.)

"Damon," the sound of the old teacher's voice brought him back to reality. Damon slowly looked up to see the teacher smiling at him, ready to ask a question.

"Can you tell us why the land of Africa is considered the most dangerous of all lands?"

"Because of the Sahara Desert," Damon answered the straightforward question calmly. The teacher smiled, satisfied, and continued the lesson. Asking questions was the only method the teacher found effective in making Damon pay attention to the class.

"The Sahara Desert, the land of the Sahara Emperor, stretches across the north of Africa. Because of this, the only country that shares a border with Sahara's territory is Egypt."

"Egypt constantly assesses threats from the Sahara, but the biggest problem they face isn't the monsters of the desert—it's the attacks of the undead."

"Due to the strength of the Sahara, no human dares to establish settlements near it. Central Africa, with its various powerful regions filled with monarchs, is largely ignored."

"Currently, only a few tribes, mercenaries, and other powers reside in central Africa, all vying for control. However, that is beyond the scope of our syllabus."

"Now, moving on to South Africa..."

As the teacher continued the lecture, Damon found himself pondering the topic of central Africa. According to his map, it was an unearthed treasure trove of resources.

The history of Africa was entirely different from his previous world in many ways. The most significant difference was the number of countries, which were fewer. Egypt in the north, South Africa in the south, and a few other countries neighboring South Africa were all that this world's continent had.

The center of the continent was now a complete wilderness, hostile to both humans and monsters. The humans who ruled the various regions in the center were called lords, typically large mercenary groups and pirates with impressive numbers.

These lords fought each other, vying for more land under their control. Being near the Sahara, many countries avoided this region, so there was no competition from nations for this land. These countries had not explored the rich resources here and did not know their true value.

Some major corporations might fund or buy these lords, but their interest in the region was usually for shady purposes.

Since awakening his map, Damon immediately understood the importance of this land and the treasures hidden within it. However, because this land wasn't under any formal rule, Damon couldn't simply buy it with money.

During his stay in Shanghai, Damon had contacted a small mercenary group under a lord named David, an intermediate mage who had inherited the position from his father, the previous lord, and was in dire need of money. Through the Crown Group, Damon swiftly made a deal with David, making the mercenary group submit to him in exchange for money and resources.

This way, Damon gained control over a minor lord who, with the funds provided, fought back against his enemies and increased his influence in Africa.

Speaking of the Crown Group, the first phase of his plans had officially begun, and mining operations in various locations around the world were underway.

Magic gold, celestial diamonds, galaxy veins, elemental stones, elemental crystals, and other rare materials were being mined and sold to various organizations and militaries worldwide.

Damon decided to first mine some valuable resources that interested the major powers, selling them to earn large profits. This would allow him to recover the initial investment in the group and then use these mines to fund his other plans once he gained a proper foothold.

The class ended shortly, and a few hours later, school came to an end. Damon returned to his apartment, busied himself with his daily cultivation, and ended his day by checking emails and monitoring the progress of the Crown Group under the talents he had recruited.

Time continued to pass—minutes turned into hours, hours into days, days into weeks, and weeks into months. Six months went by, and another semester came to an end.

An entire year had passed since Class 8 of Tian Lan Magic High had first awakened their elements, and now it was time for their annual exam.
