CH 5: Carne Village

Unlike Ainz, I don't care about my reputation as Momon will bring. At least that's what on my mind for now.

"Momon-san you're so cool!~"

"Really? I don't know but thanks, Gina." I replied to Lupusregin— I mean Gina.

Normally, Lupusregina would not act like this in front of me, but since It's an order for her to mask her sadistic true self. There she is now. But the other one is...

"If you let me just crush that insect—"

"Haaah~ Did you already forget what we're here for, Nabe-chan?~"

"Ah."

"Yes, Gina is right. We cannot compromise our position now."

"Apologies! Momon-sam—" Lupusregina stopped her before she goes kneeling on one knee.

"Haaa~ No need for that, It's fine. Let's go to an inn first. Then we'll go for the Monster Extermination job then continue with the plan."

A medium inn will be fine, we would just pick one room, It's not like we're going to sleep there or anything.

After selecting an inn, we are now doing the monster extermination job. And oh my. It's so boring.

We've been doing this like forever(5 hours) and killed a bunch of goblins, a few ogres. And a lot of weak-ass monsters of the plain. I didn't even bother to remember their name.

The number of monster parts we had gathered is not something a copper plate will be able to do; Well, It's not like higher-ranking adventurers would waste their time doing this stuff.

"There's no need for that Narberal. Remember that you are adventurer Nabe now and I... am Momon." I said after punching a goblin in the head.

"Let's do this a bit and then we'll head back to the Adventurer's guild to claim our rewards."

After hearing their response, we continued patrolling around the outskirts of E-rantel and killed more monsters.

'Great! We wasted 2 more hours.'

"Okay, that's enough. Let's head back to E-rantel now."

"Thank you," I replied after receiving it. We are now in the Adventurer's Guild claiming our rewards.

'3 gold and 90 silvers? Not bad.'

"Did you hear that those three killed 3 ogres?"

'Hehe~' I could hear the adventurers are whispering about our achievement with my keen hearing.

"Let's head back now," I said as I walked outside the guild.

"Yes. Momon-san." "Okay~su."

The moment I stepped outside I immediately cast a [Message] spell.

"[Are all set now?]"

"[All is set now, Momonga-sama.]"

"Run Enri!"

His father's words resounded clearly on her mind.

Enri Emmot is just doing her usual chore of getting water from the well this morning when this nightmarish event started.

She is now running on her dear life holding her sister's delicate hand.

They are running towards the forest, she doesn't even know how to survive the forest even if they managed to escape there.

If she could only wake up from this nightmare.

'If only I am strong.' If she's strong, she could protect her sister but that is not the case for a mere village girl like Enri.

"Ah!—" Her sister stumbled, she could not blame her with her tiny legs to run longer.

"Nemu!"

The one that is worrying her the most at this time is the two figures who are chasing them down. Knight-clad men that are about to slash them down.

Enri immediately used her back to be a shield for her sister.

And then—

*Clang!* A loud metal ringing entered her ears.

"You have the guts to chase down the weak." Enri heard an unknown voice, who seemed to be the one currently defending them.

A confused "Eh?" could be heard from the two knights.

"Y-You're an adventurer right?! What are arghh—" Said the other knight before he got cut down, or so that's what she think what had happened.

"Hey! rgggh—" The same fate befell the other knight too.

"Are you fine miss?" Said the unknown man in a gentle tone, trying to soothe her probably.

She still had not seen the one who had probably saved her.

But the moment she turned her head to look, she saw a man in full-plate black armor with a blood-stained bastard sword.

The two who had to chase them since earlier is now had been cut.

"... Y-Yes." She replied, then two more people appeared, they are so beautiful that she forgot the situation she's in for a second.

One is a brown-skinned red-haired beauty wearing light armor with some metal plates, she also had a leather head armor that only covers the top of her head and ears. The other could only be described as an elegant, snow-white skinned, black-pony-tailed beauty, she wears a plain brown cloak.

"Lup— Gina. Ehem. Cast some healing spells at both of them."

"Yes~"

"What happened here, miss?" The man in full-plate asked under his helmet.

"... I-I don't know. The k-knights, t-they just attacked us, and *hic* they started burning our vi..." Tears welled up in Enri's eyes.

"... please save... them." Enri managed to squeeze the words she wanted to say, the raid is probably ongoing.

"Don't worry. Gina cast some protection spells on them."

"Okay~..." The brown girl beauty replied before casting spells that she never heard before on her and her sister.

"... Don't move out from this place m'kay?~," Said the red-haired beauty on which Enri nodded.

"Oh, before we go. Take this..." Two horn is given by her savior.

"... That is a goblin horn, blow it and a goblin troop will be summoned. Use it to protect yourselves."

"Y-Yes! T-Thank you!" Enri doesn't know why they had been given precious items by their savior and Enri grateful and so the 3 adventurers started to head to the village but before that

Enri forced herself to ask.

"W-What is your name... ?"

On which the man in black full-plate armor turned and replied.

"Momon. Just call me Momon."

"nurggh—"

The sound of one of their comrades dying entered their ears.

"H-How did they get inside the perimeter?!".

"Adventurers?!"

There are copper-plates on their necks but they don't dare to be deceived by it after witnessing one of their men just got cleaved in half by that bastard-sword wielding in dark full-plate armor.

'That is not a copper-plate...' They thought. Because they are, they won't be casting 3rd tier spell!

"[Lighting]"

"ARGHHH—" The black-haired woman cast that spell again and two of their comrades die like flies.

They are currently in the center of the village surrounding the 3 man group. They knew the moment they entered that man's range, they will get struck down.

"Kill them all." The man in full-plate said in a cold tone, they felt the chill after hearing that and instantaneously they moved so fast.

And with just that. They're dead.

There are still villagers left in the plaza. I asked who is the chief and an old man responded. After killing all the knights, the villagers thanked me for saving them.

I had told them that they must keep my involvement a secret because I am an adventurer and getting involved in wars is something that is not tolerated in the guild.

The villagers of course swear to not reveal this information to anyone, but I stationed Shadow Demons all over the village and a parameter. Just in case.

'Haa~' I sighed in my mind.

Well, there's that. This is one of our first steps in the new world.

Now, I am currently helping the villagers by carrying some stuff and lending a hand to help.

The villagers started to bury the dead because if they don't, they will turn undead. I could see, Enri and her little sister crying in front of the grave of their parents with other villagers calming them down.

'Haa~ I didn't expect it to happen so fast...' We are in E-rantel and the moment the message came, I hurriedly check some discrepancies in this mission.

The major thing here is kidnapping the whole Sunlight Scripture without alarming the Slane Theocracy higher-ups. In the LN, the reason Ainz got noticed by the Theocracy is that because he fought the unit.

So, what I did is coordinate our forces to take down that Sunlight Scripture. And because of that, I had forgotten about Enri's parents but still...

'Haaa~'

"Thank you, Momon-sama." Said the village after I helped him carried some heavy things.

"No need for such honorifics, just call me Momon."

'Momon-san then." He said with a smile. A bitter smile.

'This poor guy lost his wife.' I could only be sympathetic towards him and everyone in this village.

'This is for the benefit of Nazarick.' I said in my mind, this will be our stepping stone for the greater future. We need to bolster our forces while hiding in the shadows.

I don't want to fight a coalition of Dragonlords of the old this early. I know my limits, I don't know what surprises are hidden in this world and I don't want to lose ground.

I would prefer a slow process. I am immortal after all, there's no need to rush.

"Momon-sama, the chief had told that there's an emergency." Another villager said who had just run towards me.

"Hoh?"

And so I headed to the village chief place.

"What happen Chief-dono?"

"Knights are heading this way, Momon-dono..." The chief said.

"... I begged for you—" I raised my hand to stop the village chief's words.

"There's no need for that, as long as I am here. I will help you." Relief faces of the villagers could be seen.

I already knew this would happen, I already received a [Message] from this. I tasked Lupusregina and Narberal to stay on the outskirts of the village to "guard" and scout.

From a long distance, silhouettes of soldiers on a horseback could be seen, but for me even this far I could already see the sigil of the band flag and the man leading it.

'How could I not recognized this man.'

"Gazef Stronoff," I muttered.

"Is there a matter Momon-dono?"

"Eh? Erm... Yes, these men that are coming towards us have the sigil of Re-Estize kingdom."

The villagers are relieved after hearing that, and so they all continued doing their tasks.

And the band of warriors finally arrived. I and the chief stood there waiting for their arrival.

The Warrior Troop are a band of warriors that are under the direct command of King Rampossa III. Led by Gazef Stronoff, the Strongest Warrior of the Kingdom.

"I am the Warrior-Captain of Re-Estize Kingdom, Gazef Stronoff. By order of the King, I have been visiting each of the frontier villages to exterminate knights from enemy countries who have been making trouble here." The man leading the band said.

Gazef Stronoff was a muscular man of around thirty years old, he appeared to have a sunbathed dark face with noticeable wrinkles, short, trimmed, black hair, and black eyes that are as sharp as a sword.

The village chief then introduced himself as the Chief of the village of Carne.

"... And this is our savior, Momon." The village chief added.

The village chief then narrated the events that had transpired, and the moment I appeared and save them.

Gazef looked at me with his sharp gaze from the top of his horse. And moments after that, he dismounted his horse and face me.

And then he said.

"I am deeply grateful to you for protecting innocent villagers. For that, thank you very much, his majesty will surely commend you."

"There's no need for that Warrior-Captain-dono, but could I ask for a favor from you," I said.

"What is it? As long as it is within my power to do so."

"You see... I am an adventurer and if please, could you claim the thing that had happened here." I said while pointing to my plate.

"Oh... I understand."

"Then thank you, Warrior-Captain-dono."
