Overlord: Rei Shiba

Well, this was just one of my pet projects I was making when I had time. I am posting it because I lost interest in it so it is basically dropped. Anyway, maybe it will shorten someone's long while and provide entertainment for the evening... or something. :D Also, do give me your opinion on the story, please. I am not interested in people saying: "Yeah, it's trash!" Because they have problems in real life and this is the way for them to vent. I am sure there will be things not everybody will like but I am interested in constructive criticism. If you find yourself so inclined, do leave a comment or review on what you liked about the story and what you disliked and why. Maybe how it felt to read it for you. (Yeah, I am not really all that satisfied with this story, tbh. :D.) It might help me the next time I find myself desiring to write Overlord fanfic.

Ch43. Helping the elves to settle in 2

Days slowly passes and between experimenting, making more spawn zones all over the continent in his Shiba's Garden, and teaching the dark elves, Rei had no time to create his dungeon.

It was a pity too. He had many pop monster spawners of various types in his inventory since he fervently collected them, knowing their importance once the world became reality. Alas, for now, Rei only used the ones that spawned animal monsters with low levels since he didn't want his elven village to be destroyed. The problem was, Rei didn't have a way to restrain monsters to a certain area now that the spawned monsters ignored the influence radius of their spawner.

There was good news too, however.

In these past days, Rei found out his influence over Shiba's Garden was actually enormous. He could reshape mountains, landmasses, create islands, all of which only needed a bit of concentration. It took Rei a lot to persuade the dark elves away from worshipping him as a God once they witnessed just a small part of what he did in his world.

That said, scolding them silly for trying to deify him fortunately worked. For now.

The most shocking thing Rei could do, however, was time dilation. Pushing it to its limits out of curiosity, Rei found out he could dilate the time in Shiba's garden to such a degree that ten days inside would be one day outside. That... was a mind-shattering thing for Rei as time was what he sorely lacked if he wanted to quickly develop his faction.

Needless to say, he was utterly delighted. For every year that passed outside, ten would pass in Shiba's Garden, giving Rei ample time to gather resources and train people!

And when it came to training people... Rei started experimenting with Ylven. She was level twelve when they started and Rei wanted to see if he could increase it by having her killing things. The results were... unexpected.

At first, Rei tried to have Ylven work as a butcher for a day. The idea behind it was that killing things should equal experience which should equal level up. Now that didn't exactly work the way Rei imagined. Killing helpless animals gave Ylven very little experience which explained why butchers were not the strongest people in the world.

Rei then had Ylven hunt monsters around level ten. Fortunately, she was quite proficient with daggers and bows so it wasn't a problem. It took three days of intense hunting but at the end of it, Ylven increased her level by one, becoming level thirteen.

What soured Rei's mood, however, was the fact she couldn't allocate her job levels as they were instantly allocated for her into the Hunter job. Rei reasoned it was because she leveled up by hunting the animals or used a bow to kill things. This revelation was... offputting for Rei as it meant he couldn't just level people up and then have them use specialized builds. If he wanted them to specialize, his people would have to level up in a certain way, making Rei realize why people found it so damn hard to become strong in this world.

Well, there was always his [Blanket of Unequivalent Exchange] and alchemy had some neat potions like Stat Relocation Potion but Rei wasn't yet sure how it would work in the real world. Alas, it was obvious he would have to get creative. Again.

A big chunk of Rei's time was spent on teaching the elves in charge of the orchard and the fields some very basic nature magic. Rei wouldn't usually bother but elves had an affinity for nature magic so he decided to try it for a day. Surprisingly, the results were satisfactory enough he spent five following days giving more and more lessons.

Five days wasn't nearly enough to learn spells but teaching these dark elves [Growth Enhance], [Nurture] was enough for them. With these two basic nature spells, they would be able to have a harvest every month and improve the quality of fruits by a tremendous amount. The best part, however, was that Rei wouldn't need to be involved in these matters anymore as they could cast the spells by themselves.

On a more covert note, Rei quickly noticed the elves actually gained the job class of Nature Mage after learning their first basic nature spell. This was the real reason why he continued teaching them as he was curious where it would lead. Imagine his shock when he found out the mana of some elves increased by practicing! It was barely noticeable but it did happen. That was impossible in the game as everything depended on stat points. Here though... it seemed the people could grow stronger in a more natural manner.

Kareath was one of the most eager dark elves when it came to learning magic. The girl learned four nature spells in five days, making Rei glad he brought her back to life. Solution would never show it but Rei knew she was bored, just following him around as he played with his new world like a kid, so he gave her a task. He made her teach Kareath some basic tier-one holy spells.

Oh, Rei was totally aware Solution didn't like that order one bit but it was for the sake of science! Kareath learned her first holy spell in under just four excruciating hours for Solution, gaining the job class of Holy Mage alongside a bit of Solution's respect. After Kareath showed her talent, Solution was surprisingly less reluctant to teach the girl for which Rei was happy.

He didn't like manipulating Solution but there was no other way. When he let her to her own devices, he just wouldn't interact with the elves, opting to follow Rei like a puppy. Rei knew the only way for Solution to accept the dark elves as something worth more than trash was to have her talk to them. To have her get to know them. Rei didn't delude himself and thought Solution would start liking the elves. He didn't need her to like them. He needed her to be cordial to them and willing to help them.

Fortunately, his little ploy with Kareath's tutelage was effective enough to improve Solution's attitude. It was still far from ideal but Solution was 'alive' only for a few short days so Rei decided to be patient with her.

As for the dark elven villagers, they were elated about how much their lives improved in recent days. They lived in a place that made them feel extremely comfortable, they had better houses, they no longer starved, they were learning magic... in short, their loyalty and trust in Rei reached a fanatical level where some wanted to worship him as God.

Yes, Rei put a swift end to any public worshipping but... that didn't mean these feelings simply disappeared from the hearts of the dark elves. He might have told them he was no God and had no intention of becoming one but with how much he helped them and the feats of magic he showed them, Rei didn't yet realize how much impact his actions had.

Ylven, for one, was quite determined to become stronger... useful for her Lord. She was still acting as the leader of the dark elves and since the elves under her actually stopped resisting change, her job became a lot easier. The elves became efficient in their work. Whether it was farming, hunting, building, learning magic, or something else, they improved every day.

After finding out hunting can increase one's strength, Ylven made sure to put together a group of her ten most loyal elves before she sent them hunting with orders to focus on stealth practice. She was smart enough to realize her village was just a start and Lord Rei would bring many more people under his banner. Slowly, a plan and an ambition started to form in her heart.

An ambition that will, later on, give birth to the most feared Dreadlord across the continent. Rei had no idea what a monster his actions would give birth to.
