The New Mission

The room was filled with a loud bang of gunfire. Both teams have pairs while exchanging bullets with each other non-stop.

The fight began to get even more heated after one of the opponents was shot. The opponent started to become enraged, then shot them back with more aggression.

Another good sight of her opponent from her side, but as soon as she pulled the trigger, the pistol just created a click-sound. A soft curse escaped from her mouth.

"Bullets!" she commanded her comrades for a full-load magazine.

"Here!" Her comrade threw a full magazine towards her and quickly reloaded the empty pistol in the blink of an eye. They executed a series of movements, attempting to outmaneuver their opponents.

Apart from the loud noises, the paint was all over the white-tinted surroundings.

Other members of the Orphan Mission from the outside are amazed by what they have witnessed. Although no one can see what's happening inside the Battle Field Simulation, the game was clearly displayed on a large LCD screen outside the room. Two groups from the same unit confronted each other to determine who was the strongest.

She came out from behind the wall and confidently looked for the best aim to shoot. She smiled when she could finally see the perfect timing and she jumped out of the wall then let her one eye shut. "You have no way out." She murmured pointing her gun at the opponent and pulled the trigger.

The large door of the large room opened. "That was intense!" the Chief entered the room and initiated them to cease the fight. "I'd never thought you had so much more to give, Lian Qiang." he continued. "You all reached my expectations." he smiled praising all of them.

"As if I wasn't that good," she said confidently. They set their fake guns aside. Their opponents were covered with red paint, a clear sign of hits from the paint bullets.

"What do you need, Chief?," she asked, a bit of annoyance for interrupting the game.

"We have something important to talk about, Officer Lian." he answered seriously.

The other members of the Orphan Mission, with whom she had played the game, tapped her shoulder before leaving the room. She nodded as they exited and left her together with Chief Wei Xi. She got it. It's another mission. The annoyed feeling she felt earlier was now filled with excitement.

She's longing for it.

She followed the Chief officer to his office that made her eyebrows arch in skepticism. An affluent elderly man appeared, taking a seat in front of the Chief's desk. She nodded to show respect to the old man, who returned the gesture.

In terms of age, let's consider him to be in his mid-fifties. His hair is silver-white and neatly combed back, adding to his distinguished appearance. He's dressed immaculately in tailored suits, his personal style a blend of traditional elegance and modern luxury.

"This is, Mr. Zhang. This is, Officer Lian, one of our members of the Orphan Mission organization." The chief introduced them with each other. Mr. Zhang, extended his hand for a handshake, and she took it.

The Chief sat on his seat in front of them and she immediately took the seat too in front of the Chief as well. "So, since you're here, Officer Lian. Mr. Zhang, wanted a request from you." he began having second thoughts.

"You are going to be a bodyguard for his son." He continued.

This left a big question in her mind. Had she heard that correctly?

"Are you kidding me, Chief?" She scoffed, sarcastically amused by his statement. She waited for the Chief's next statement, assuming what he said was a joke. However, the serious expression on his face indicated otherwise.

"I'm not making this up, Officer Lian. Mr. Zhang requested you for this task because his son has been receiving threats from a notorious group."

"You are the only person that I could use for this. You have the skills that others don't have." he continued with full of earnest conviction.

"How about my recent case that I didn't finish, Chief?" she asked.

"I already entrusted your case to someone else."

She then faced the old man next to her and saw him nod his head in agreement. "I trust in the Chief's judgment". Mr. Zhang said, his voice steady. "And I believe you are the best person to protect my son." He said, conveying a deep sense of trust in her.

Her mind is telling her this is not the mission she used to have. The mission that she wanted was to capture and kill criminals. This mission that the Chief wanted her to do was a bit boring and lack of excitement, far from what she actually wanted. She's eager for more.

It's still her job to help them. Besides, this mission will help her capture the notorious group in the end. She had harbored hatred for that group for a long time.

She couldn't think of anyone to replace her and she thought this mission would suit her better. Even though it went against her heart to fulfill this mission, she chose to accept it nonetheless.

Mr. Zhang, was staring at her waiting for her response.

She nodded. The Chief understood what she meant.

"Tomorrow morning, we will have our meeting," the Chief said with authority.
