One Without The Other

Pureblood Vampires and their immortal soul bonded counterparts would share their first breaths when they are born. Yebires is the name given to these creatures. No one ever knows if they are having a human or a Yebire child. They aren't passed down genetically and are instead regarded as defects/mutations. Their existence is nearly identical to that of a beautiful ghoul, with the exception that they are not hungry for humans. It took Tilly more than 100 or so years of being relentlessly hunted before she found her Vampire bond, Theo. Along with many others like her. However, it doesn't change the fact that she's spent most of her years in fear and thought it was time to start putting these cruel hunts to an end. •---• I haven't eaten in a long time, yet no matter how long I go without food, I never die. Whether I stop eating, sleeping, or even drinking water, I don't die. I suffer from the weakness that occurs with malnutrition, even passing out here and there. But never death-

As the three moved closer into my motel room, I recoiled. I couldn't understand what was happening or why they were carrying inside. The only thing I knew for sure was that those were vampires. Where do they constantly seem to be coming from?

The closer they approached, a wave of recognition flooded over me. However, because I'd never seen either of them, it was more of an intuitive sense than a visual one.

I didn't bother shouting; instead, I sprang to my feet and attempted to book it to the nearest window. But before I could carry out that plan, my arm was grasped fast and brutally. I saw the more prominent man behind me grabbing my other arm and detaining me when I looked around. However, it wasn't difficult in my state.

"She just came in that beaten state. I swear no one has entered this room yet." The woman's honey-sweet voice had been alluring before but now felt sickening. It's similar to drawing a moth to a flame. Furthermore, the terrifying remarks flowing from her mouth did not fit her gentle southern girl demeanor.

"W-what's going on!? What did I do!?" I'm never sure why vampires seem to follow me around no matter where I go. I don't get to meet any gentle vampires. It's always the same ones that try to eat me.

The cheeky man simply flashed me away with an eerily grin before turning to the desk lady. "Don't worry. We're not all keen on quality. Blood tastes the same to us regardless of whether her knee has a scar or two."

"That makes me happy! I'll let you guys do your thing. But please remember I'm running a business here, so clean the mess after." The woman smiled from cheek to cheek before slowly closing the motel room door.

"Wait! WAit!" Even though I know death isn't a possibility for me, I appealed, knowing that many things are worse than death. My screams, however, were disregarded, and I was ultimately tossed upon the bed as if it was nothing. I held my ears and eyes shut, trembling onto the mattress. Inevitably waiting for...

Nothing...?

It took me a few minutes to see that nothing was occurring. I sprung from my huddled position to take a glance around. The men were still present and conversing, much to my surprise. But instead of attempting to listen in on their murmurs. I slid from the bed and tried to sprint to the bathroom window. But again, my attempt was reprimanded by the more prominent fellow. He put his arm between me and the restroom, securing it to a nearby wall.

"Calm yourself. We're not here to hurt you." The vibrant one started to speak at a volume I could hear.

"Fuck that! I don't care what you're here to do! I want to leave!" I yelped at the two with no hesitation.

"You will be able to, but you'll be fucking over our only lead if you leave before we're done. So stay put." He carried on with the chat, but I was utterly puzzled by the situation. This was clear since the man sighed before giving a brief explanation. "Rogue vampires are buying these buildings up as if they were easy pickings. But don't worry, neither Theo nor I are currently interested in you. All you have to do now is wait for the others to arrive so that we can detain the folks here successfully."

"Yea, we only came here to ensure our hunch was right about this place." The man in front of me finally spoke up.

"Are you guys... Vampire police?" I stepped back far enough from the bathroom doorway. I could believe that possibly a form of vampire reinforcement exists to keep their identity as secret as possible. But I'm not sure if I think they're one. I inspected the men in front of me with a keener eye. The arrogant one had a devilish expression on his face. I imagine he's the type always to try to sell you something, but he's humorous enough that you don't mind. He wore a bright red shirt with white jeans. This isn't the most formal of appeals.

The other man, at the very least, was dressed more formally. It was a black dress shirt that went well with dark blue pants and boots. His tanned complexion was bronze enough to challenge my own.

"Uh... something like that" The cheeky one would snap me back to the situation.

"Hey, have I.. seen you before?" The other would interject almost synced.

"No?" I did notice the sensation of familiarity pouring off of him now that he stated it. In my 100 years or so on this planet, I swear I haven't seen this vampire. To better look at his face, I walked closer to him. "Are you like on television maybe?"

The guys exchanged a few glances before the man in front of me pulled his hand from the wall and stepped back. "I look familiar to you too?" In comparison to his first lines, his voice seemed more alert.

I didn't know how to answer that since their reactions began to frighten me. "I don't know. I don't remember you, so there's no need to worry." I attempted to diffuse the situation. I suppose I could have seen them murder someone or something to invoke this response. That, however, is not my concern at the moment.

"Hmm, that is suspicious, but we can't suspect everyone you're familiar with as your Yebire, Theo" They started to murmur, only allowing small lines to bleed.

Before he began speaking, the taller man gave me the coldest glare. "I think we should check regardless." He said, not even attempting to whisper that line.

The other one sighed not in an exhausted manner but more playfully. "Understood." He then turned his gaze in my direction. I was so dissatisfied with the order that the situation was already beginning to devise a plan to flee. "Change of plans, girl. You're coming with us."
