Chapter 100: End of the Marineford War

….

Shanks gazed at Marineford from far away and frowned.

"Aren't we going?" Asked Yasopp with a rifle leaning on his shoulder.

Ben Beckman stared at Shanks, noticing that his captain felt something strange.

"No." Shanks shook his head. "If we go there, we will be falling right into someone's plans. Luffy is out of there already so it doesn't matter."

Yasopp raised a questioning brow at this and looked towards Marineford. His sharp eyes were like those of a hawk and surprisingly he saw someone staring back at them. It was Max, and he had a cold look in his eyes.

"Ah, I get it now," Yasopp murmured. Max was bad news, even their captain didn't want to meet someone like that in his playing field. "Do you think Blackbeard survived?"

"It depends," Shanks answered. "Blackbeard is sneaky, but he can sometimes be very reckless. Max on the other hand…"

"So you mean that Max would kill Blackbeard in a situation like this?"

"Yes, undoubtedly. Blackbeard is tricky, but Max… he is dangerous."

Yasopp didn't quite understand what Shanks meant by that, Blackbeard was dangerous too. But in the end, he didn't ask any more questions and instead wondered how Usopp was doing these days. "Hope he got out okay."

***

Max could barely see Shank's ship even from so far away. Yet he still noticed that they weren't coming any closer. "Tch, bastards, can't they have some more balls and come here."

Though he said that mockingly, Max couldn't help but be impressed with Shank's foresight. The man had single-handedly just saved his whole crew's life by not coming here.

He wanted Shanks to underestimate him. But instead, the Yonko turned around…

Max didn't like smart people, they were always tricky to deal with. Especially ones like Shanks, he wouldn't get angry no matter what Max was going to say to him. So fighting Shanks was the worst kind of opponent he could have.

In the end, he sighed and calmed himself down. True, this was the best chance to kill Shanks as Garp, Sengoku, Kizaru, and Akainu were here. But that all went out the window now, he had to try and come up with new plans to deal with the red-haired Yonko.

In the end, he chose Kaido to keep on rampaging. "Negan, wake up Kaido."

Though those words were even quieter than a whisper and Negan was on the other side of the battlefield. He knew his friend would hear them, Negan's Devil Fruit was very useful in this instance. Plus amongst the thousands of voices in Marineford, only he mentioned the name Negan, so that should have caught his attention.

Then a sneaky trail of lighting that even Max wouldn't have noticed if he wasn't paying attention traveled and bounced off the ground, hitting Kaido and shocking him awake.

Kaido opened his eyes, but now only one bloody hole and another cut eye were left instead of his eyes. "AGGGGHHH!!" He yelled out, shooting a beam of fire from his mouth, burning half the residential area in Marineford. Though everyone had escaped now so there were no residents there. But the damage was colossal and half the island burned as Kaido shot pillars of flames like a mad man.

*bzzzt*

Negan appeared next to me in a flash, he didn't say anything but his evil smile said a thousand words. He enjoyed the killing of both marines and pirates. Carnage, there was pure carnage below us. We stood on one of the walls and just looked down at what was happening below.

"Damn, that guy is a monster~" Negan whistled.

Max couldn't refute that, Kaido was a monster amongst monsters. Even he had grown a little jealous at the man's endurance. Plus it wasn't something that could be naturally copied. It just wasn't possible… naturally. Artificially on the other hand…

He had many ideas on how to corporate such an endurance upon himself. Though that was very far in the future, Max didn't have the materials needed to achieve such a thing yet. Even then, everything was only theory, even the best doctor he knew had doubts about some of the procedures. Life Return could only push him so far, only as much as his body would allow.

**

The Marineford war ended not much longer, Whitebeard died and his final message wasn't broadcasted through the world. Max made sure of that.

In the end, the Marines suffered around 30 thousand casualties. A huge number that would take years, possibly decades to recuperate. Especially Aokiji, an Admiral who had died, that was the heaviest blow of all.

But in the end, the Marines still won. While Kaido's escape was a surprise to most, it was only a small setback.

Whitebeard lost almost 45 thousand pirates, almost all of his people.

Also, many huge names had died too.

'Flower Sword' Vista was killed by Vice Admiral Max.

Marco was captured.

Whitebeard was killed by Kaido's rampage, though in the papers it was written that Max dealt the final blow.

'Dark King' Rayleigh died while fighting

against Sengoku and Garp.

King died too due to Negan finishing him off.

The corpse of the ancient giant Oars Jr was found with a huge burn hole in its midsection. Kaido had killed the ancient giant before coming to the battlefield, that was what the investigation team said.

Days after the war were uneventful until news that a new Admiral had been promoted. His code name was Admiral Higuma (Brown Bear)...

**

Max stood in front of a mirror in his lavish room in the newly constructed Marine HQ. Though it was still being rebuilt, the Admirals' rooms were prioritized.

He wore a black suit, and the white Admiral cape made him seem noticeable immediately. On his back 'True Justice' was written. Though Negan suggested 'Technical Justice'. Max had shot down the suggestion immediately.

He kept looking at himself in the mirror, the face that had at first felt unfamiliar to him now had become something very familiar. By now he had truly become Max.

Some of his plans might have been unsuccessful along the way. But he had done it, clawing his way to the top.

The door suddenly opened and Negan came in. "Are you done admiring yourself in the mirror?"

Max smirked. "Not sure, wait a couple more minutes. I am not done admiring my handsome face."

Negan chuckled. "So what's next? You never told us anything about what happens now?"

Max wasn't sure either, all of his plans had changed. Initially, he had thought that things would get worse or most of his enemies would survive, but things had gone surprisingly well.

"Do you believe in God?" Max asked suddenly, catching Negan by surprise.

"No, not really." He answered nonchalantly. "Do you?"

"I don't know…" Max was unsure. If someone had asked him before he came here, then the answer would have been No. But now things have changed quite a lot. "But if there exists something like that…"

Max didn't finish his sentence, but Negan could sense the ambition rolling off his body.

'Here he goes again, always looking for the next big dream. I thought he might become confused but it seems like I underestimated him. He skipped the world domination dream and went right to the next step.'

Even Negan was shocked by what Max was implying.
