Chapter 9: Mystery

Yu was hospitalized as an Occlude patient at the Rith Family Hospital.

Amanai and Iguro had found them later that night, and taken them straight to the hospital. Iguro who had barely recovered was feeling guilty for not being able to protect Yu but Amanai told him not to feel bad. Mari was told that she was just simply spent and needed rest, Amanai watched over her as she rested.

"Why didn't you talk to me?", Amanai spoke.

"There was never a need to.", Mari responded sharply, with bite obviously in her voice.

"...You know before Iguro and I began dating...I rambled every night to you about how much I loved him...I thought you were amazing...no guy could sway your heart but I was so giddy about this one guy...I thought you found me weird but...", Amanai sniffled.

Upon hearing her sniffle, Mari turned to face Amanai and saw her crying. Her eyes widened.

"I...I...I... had no idea that I was being so...selfish...", Amanai said as she fought from crying.

Mari felt so guilty, she had made her cry and immediately ran to hug her.

"I never saw you as selfish...I was just out of it...am sorry...", Mari said as she hugged her tightly.

"Mari..."

"What?"

"Will you be a bit more honest with me? You don't need to hide from me...you're not my slave...you're my friend."

Upon hearing this Mari smiled, "Yeah...you're my friend too..."

The rays of sunlight from the dawn of a new morning, spread across them as they smiled while hugging each other.

In the meantime, Yu was undergoing a surgery.

He had lost his right arm and had several fractures. Although, he possessed perfect ambidexterity, he couldn't go on living without one arm. The doctors knew he was in a bad predicament and they needed to solve his problem. So, they worked and were indeed fascinated by his body.

How could an Occlude without a Ballista be so strong?

Or so they thought...until the boy's arm slowly began to regenerate.

Iguro, Amanai and Mari sat outside awaiting news of Yu's condition. Iguro was staring down as Amanai was holding his hand while Mari stared directly at Yu's room door. Eagerly waiting for him to just walk out like everything is ok.

After an hour, a doctor walked out. Amanai had fallen asleep, so Iguro and Mari jerked up.

"DOCTOR!", they exclaimed in unison.

They glanced at each other before dashing towards the white-coated man.

"Oh Dear!", he said with surprise.

"There is no need to fret...your friend is perfectly fine.", the doctor said with a chuckle, "We will discharge him by evening. Come back by then."

"Oh...ok", Iguro said.

Mari just stared at him.

Maybe am just overthinking...

Mari just grabbed Iguro and Amanai, "Let's go...we'll be back by 7."

And with that they left, the doctor let out a sigh.

"This boy...", he turned to the room.

A few minutes later, in the doctor's office.

"Boy...what's your name?"

"Yu Trevor.", he answered with a downcast face.

"Yu...Trevor. Mr. Trevor let me get straight to the point.", he said dropping his clipboard.

"Are you from DedSect?"

"Yes."

"An escapee?"

"Yes."

"Are you aware of your condition?"

"Yes..."

"Hmm...I couldn't believe my eyes I thought we were going to have to give you a bionic arm...but your arm regenerated on its own. You are incredible!", he complimented as he stared at Yu in amazement.

Yu didn't say anything he just remained downcast. The man felt the mood and sighed.

"Boy...you must have endured many horrors at DedSect's underground facilities...I understand your pain.", he said as he looked down.

Yu bit his lip and gritted his teeth, "What would you know?!"

The doctor raised his head as he smiled while tears trickled down his face. Yu's eyes widen in surprise.

"Because...my daughter is there too...", he put down his glasses.

"I... never knew...she was going to be experimented on...I was lured in by their mysterious 'artificial genius program' and threw my daughter into their hands...am such a monster...I couldn't take her back after they killed my wife...!", he said as he broke in to tears.

That's when Yu knew that...

the real monsters weren't girls as he had previously thought...

they were without a doubt...
