Ace was hesitant about entering the station, but with Ray in front of him and Abel standing closely behind him to make sure that he didn't bolt after agreeing to give a formal statement, he didn't really have much of a choice but to go inside with them.
Ray knew that he would have to catch Harold up later and let him know that they found the kid and he was willing to give a statement to them. The older man would be happy to know that his network of off the record information was still working as as great as ever.
A few heads turned when they came inside, most likely surprised by the fact that they were bringing in the second person in one day for questioning. Neither one of the detectives were going to say anything about it until they were done questioning Ace as they wanted to make sure it was on record that it was done voluntarily by him and that they didn't force him to do anything against his will. At least that had been the plan.
"Gray! Come over here." The chief called him from his office with a rather dark look on his face. The detective was not thrilled about this, but it wasn't like he could just blow off the chief since he was the new person there. He instead motioned for Ray and Ace to go on ahead.
"Chief, what can I help you with?" Abel asked once he was standing outside the other's door way.
"Might I ask what you think you're doing?" The chef aske his with his hands resting on his desk with his fingers folded together.
"I'm not sure what you mean Sir?" Abel replied, honestly not quite sure what the other was upset about.
"If we are referring to the current situation, I am brining in another suspect for voluntary questioning that was mentioned by the woman we interviewed this morning as possibly knowing more information than they were giving out."
"I thought that I told you just this morning not to dig your nose into things that aren't important in this case. I don't like to have to repeat myself." The chief replied, a sharp tone of warning to his voice.
"With all due respect Chief, I'm not taking a detour on this case. This Ace Hedges who agreed to come in for questioning was hinted at as having a deeper relationship with the victim than he had originally told us. I'm simply bringing him in for questioning to see if he could be linked to the murder. Nothing more, nothing less." Abel replied.
"I hope that is true detective and that is all this is because I want this case closed down as quickly as possibly so that we can move on to other cases that still need to be dealt with." The chief told him, fixing him with a hard stare. This was definitely good at knowing how to intimidate others with his nonverbal body language noted based upon the way that he was handling the situation.
"Too bad that he doesn't know it doesn't work on you the same way it does with others." Prose's voice floated through his head and found himself agreeing with that. It would probably be a good idea to keep that a secret for now.
"I would recommend that you be careful with him. Considering you haven't had the chance to make any physical contact with him it's hard to determine what he's thinking. However, I do feel that he could pose a threat based upon how suspicious he already is of you." The system warned.
'Do you have anything on file that I could have access to that would give me so deeper insight about him and how worried I should be?' Abel asked mentally as he continued his conversation with the chief.
"Negative, that is something that you don't have access to." the system replied.
"I understand sir. Ray and I will both do our best to have this settled as quickly as possible." He assured the chief.
"I hope that is true detective. You can carry on with what you're doing, but I will expect a report by the end of the day about what progress you have made on this." The chief told him as he waved him off so that he could. Abel hated reports, but he would do it if that was what it took to get this man off his back.
As he stepped outside of the office and got ready to head back to join Ray and Ace to be a part of the questioning process, he suddenly had a really bad feeling hit him that something wasn't quite right.
"Jack." He called for the young officer that had been helping them that morning.
"You called, Sir?" Jack asked as he stood up from his desk.
"Can you come with me for this. I would prefer if there was someone else keeping a watch on the outside just incase there's anything me or Ray miss." He told the young officer as he motioned for the other to follow him. Better to be safe than sorry.
Abel couldn't place why he had the bad feeling, but he just felt that if he didn't have someone there aside from him and Ray that things would take a bad turn of events.
"Of course, Sir. That's not problem at all. Is there anything particular that you need me to do?" He asked as he followed after the detective.
"Nope. I just want you to keep watch over what is happening." Abel replied. Since it took him a few minutes to deal with what the chief had wanted, he was pretty sure that Ray would've already started the questioning without him because of how nervous Ace was. Everything would be on a recording though so he could go back and listen to it later.
"You can count on me." Jack replied as they approached the room. The glass for the interrogation rooms were all one-sided which meant that while Jack would be able to see inside to what was going on, Ace wouldn't know that there was someone else standing out there and that would stop him from becoming more nervous or suspicious as to why they had got a third person involved. He just hoped that whatever the bad feeling was, it wasn't anything serious.
