Davis Lane returned back to the class and sat down silently. He could not attend the next classes attentively. His mind was in chaos. He was going through a hard time due to a shortage of money.
'Should I accept the money from my teachers for the time being, and return later. At least I can do proper treatment of my father by that. But my father would be very upset if I accept that. What should I do?'Davis Lane lost his thought. He could not attend the remaining classes attentively.
"Davis, I have to tell you something important. Let us go to the school canteen after school. Today's Lemon chicken is on me. It will not take long." Kairo said in a low voice.
Davis Lane snapped back to the present to hear Kairo's voice. He looked at Kairo confusedly. He never invited him anywhere after school, as he knew that Davis Lane had to go to the restaurant for work.
"What happened? Why are you inviting me to go there?" Davis Lane asked in a low voice.
"You will know," Kairo whispered.
"Ok." Davis Lane nodded and busied himself with the classwork.
All the students started leaving the class one by one when their last period was over. Lina Ran looked at Davis Lane, who was still scribbling something in a notebook, and left the class with Dora. Kairo was waiting for Davis Lane inside the class. He completed his work and packed his things and get ready to go.
"Kairo, Let us go," Davis Lane said and left the class with Kairo.
They both entered the canteen. After school, the school canteen was used by the students who are living in the school hostel. Kairo ordered two plates of Lemon Chicken and rice. Lemon Chicken was Davis's all-time favorite food.
"Kairo, why did you bring me here? Please tell me quickly. I have to go to work. "
"Davis. I just want to spend some time with you. I have not much time left in this place ." Kairo replied in a low voice and looked down.
"Wha... what? What did you say? Why is there not much time left for you here? What do you mean by this? Look Kairo, I am not in the mood to listen to your jokes. Tell me quickly, what happened to you today? Is something bothering you? If it is, you can share it with me. I can skip my work today if you need any help from me. "
"Davis. I am not joking. Today is my last day here. My father had got a transfer to a new place. I am leaving tomorrow morning. I am shifting abroad with my family. I already got my transfer certificate from the school." Kairo replied as he tried to avoid his friend's eyes. Davis Lane was shocked to hear his friend's words. He just could not believe what he just heard.
"What...what did you just say? Are you serious?"Davis Lane asked in a surprised voice and looked at Kairo questioningly.
Kairo nodded in a positive. He could not utter a word more.
"How can you leave me like this? I.....Why are you telling me now?" Davis Lane said as he tried to stop the tears rolling down.
Davis Lane had only one friend since his childhood. Davis Lane did not like to be friends with others. But it was Kairo, who tried to make him his friend. Both of them studied there for four years. In these four years, both of them became inseparable friends. They both were complete with each other. So both of them never felt like making any other friends all these years.
Now Kairo had to leave Davis Lane here. It was painful for both of them. By remembering his days with his friend, he could not stop the tears in his eyes. He wiped the tears hurriedly so that Kairo could not see them. But Kairo already noticed his tears. Kairo felt heartbroken.
"I ... I am sorry Davis. I... I just could not tell you. I ....I was afraid that you would be very sad for me." Kairo replied sadly.
Davis Lane could not utter a single word. He felt like a big lump blocked his throat.
"Davis. I will write you letters regularly. We will be living apart, but we will keep in touch with each other. Please don't be sad. Just try to make some new friends." Kairo somehow managed to utter. Davis Lane could not wait there for more
"I.... I have to go now." Davis Lane told and left the canteen hurriedly.
He lost in deep thought and walked towards the sea beach. He used to play on this beach with Kairo. He had a lot of memories of this place with Kairo. He sighed and sat down there.
The Sun was setting in the west. The beautiful red and orange colors of the sun fall on Davis's face. He looked at the setting sun. He could feel the setting sun as a symbol of his life. Kairo was like a sun in his life, which could shine his life with his warm rays. But now he was feeling like the sun of his life was also set with Kairo's sudden departure.
