You Can't

Getting back to my room wasn't as much of a hassle as when I came out of it, as I steadily walked and shuffled towards the door on both my feet, mentally swearing to myself never to walk on all fours in that house ever again.

I entered and somehow successfully made it back to my bed in one piece when I heard my dear sister hiss at me in a still clearly annoyed tone.

"Idiot…"

"I'm too old to banter with a kid…I'm too old to banter with a kid…I'm too old to exchange insults with a kid," I muttered under my breath to myself as I vigorously reminded myself that I was in fact thirty years old compared to the body I was in that was most likely around eighteen years, at the peak of his youth, compared to his sister who I felt was about a year older.

It was difficult to fall asleep. The bed was too hard, the environment was slightly hotter than I was used too, and it was definately no where near my bedtime, but I understood that even if I chose to stay awake there was nothing else to do but to stare at the darkness around me.

"I should apologize tomorrow," I reminded myself recalling how dejected Kaen had looked when he got up from the table after I reminded him about something he very much wanted to forget.

It took a while, but I was finally able to drift off to sleep after what seemed like eternity, which was why when I woke up when the sky was still slightly dark, I knew I woke up too early.

Still, I scrambled off my bed slightly surprised to glance at my sister's bed and see no signs of her.

I yawned and stretched planning to take a short visit to the bathroom before heading back for another short nap until when everywhere was completely bright enough for me to see when I suddenly heard a loud commotion coming from outside my door.

"I understand that these people wake up extremely early in the morning…" referring to village people but that doesn't mean that they have to wake me too, as I realized that the louder the sounds got, the less sleepy I felt.

Still, I peed in the tiny bathroom that was connected to the room and straight away went back to bed with the intention of at least getting about thirty minutes worth of extra sleep.

Five minutes later, my eyes were fully open and I jumped off the bed, swinging the door open and making my way straight for the direction of where the unwanted noise was coming from, which I quickly found to be the front door of our house.

"I'm sorry Kern. I know that you're trying your best and all but without some additional down paymemt, I won't be able to allow you and your family stay here any longer,"

"Please, Mr Feller. We just need a few days," Moey begged only to watch as the fat fugly man shook his head in a resolute manner as I watched him stare at Moey with an openly lustful expression on his face.

"I can't. Things are getting more expensive and even the mana prices aren't what they used to be anymore which is why I had no choice but to increase the rent. I could introduce you to one of the smaller hut at the edge of the village," he replied in a caring tone and a smile that didn't reach his eyes.

"We both know that those huts can't protect us from any stray monsters that wander from the forests," Kern complained but the man, I heard Moey call Mr Feller simply shrugged in a way that showed that it was none of his business and was there for his money, whether or not they had it.

"If you can't pay me then I want you out of the house in thirty minutes. I don't think you have that much load, so I can even ask a few people to help you pack it out," I heard him continue to speak and I was shocked to see the hopelessness on Moey and Kern's face, as it dawned on me that Moey already spent the money she had on the food we ate last night and probably didn't have any more to give to the greedy man who suddenly came to demand for additional rent.

Even I couldn't help but feel powerless, as I wondered what my worth was for transmigrating into the body I was currently in if I couldn't do more to help his family.

I was still trying to think of what I could possibly do to get quick and extra money, only to come up short when I realized that the world I was in was completely foreign and without any of the things like internet and electricity that I was used to.

"It's fine, I can give him some of my mana in exchange as a down payment while we try and find a new place," Nami said, and I looked up to see the unwilling expression she had on her face even as she gritted her teeth together and spoke despite it.

"NO…"

"Nami…you can't," I heard both Kern and Moey say, instantly kicking against it but at the same I could see the expression of defeat on their faces as they did.

"What other choice do we have? Moreover this isn't the first time that I'll would have to do this so I'm already used to it,"

"But the exam…don't you need the mana for the exam you'll have to do next week?" Moey asked and I watched Nami hesitate for just a couple of seconds before she responded.

"Then is then. Now is now. In an hour, we'll be homeless," she said glaring at Mr Feller who instead at a purely delighted expression on his face.

"50 points should be enough as a…" he began to speak only for Nami to interrupt him without allowing him to finish.

"I'll give you a hundred which is the full amount. After that I never want to see you here again until next month." she hissed in a clearly bitter tone right before she unbuckled the strap that kept her skirt in place on her waist, as I watched it fall to the ground revealing pale fleshy thighs and a shaved path between her legs.
