The hour was six in the afternoon, the day consisted of Grayson sleeping and healing.
Shawn and Grayson were walking back to his and Brendan's Parkthorne apartment and base of operations after Grayson picked her up from the 'Haven community center to show her around and the Trio get some combat training from the hero himself, the last time they talked was after Lady Victim's attack on Brendan and Mouse's penthouse.
On their way in, their landlady, Clancey greeted the lovely couple as she was about to have her own night ahead of her, Dick thanked her for fixing a problem he and Brendan had in their apartment then the two began talking and so Shawn went up without him.
"We're not doing that bad for ourselves, huh?" Brendan asked Shawn while closing the door immediately and witnessing her in awe upon entering their apartment, "Yeah… Yeah, looks pretty cozy but I'm wondering where you guys fit your equipment in here?" She replied before smiling.
Brendan opened the door then the two walked out but very close by to room 3B, Grayson and Brendan stayed in 3A, where Gorilla Grimm and Harold greeted the two concurrently working on their own tech.
"Grimm and Harold, what's up? how are ya guys doing?" Shawn asked with a bright smile, "Doin' well, ms.Tsang, I'm almost done with a passion project as a 'thank you' to your boyfriend but there's a ton of problems I've got to work out before he can use it." Harold responded with an ecstatic tone.
"Can't wait 'till you're finished and I can see it, what exactly is it though? Between me and you." Shawn questioned while feeling slightly annoyed by the hype but no tell, "I know this place has sound proofing but I can't risk the boy wonder hearing, his birthday is also coming up and I want it as a surprise." Harold asserted, Shawn nodded, Just accepting she'll have to wait two months to see it.
Grayson and Bridget don't remain talking for too long, they part ways and about their business. Grayson walks upstairs but 3A is empty so he checks in 3B and interrupts the gang playing with his equipment.
"Are these sticks really that–" Grayson heard Shawn ask but she stopped herself and the moment turned awkward. Brendan has his mask on, Shawn is playing with his sticks and Grimm is joking around with his grapple gun. The three of them freeze, each giving Grayson a different form of body language. Grimm aimed the grapple gun towards Grayson. Shawn threw the sticks and awkwardly chuckled accompanied with a stiff smile, Brendan froze in place with his own ungainly look.
Grayson started getting memories flooding back in of his Teen Titans before elegantly pulling himself back together- "I found an all-night gym for us to train at so when you guys are ready, we can head over." Said Grayson as he put his Nightwing costume into his specially customized carrying bag he's had since he went by Robin.
Shawn picked up and gave him his sticks, Grimm tossed him his grappling hook and Brendan handed him his mask, the last two followed each other down stairs, the fastest he'd seen either of them move, leaving he and Grimm staring at one another in silence.
"You guys have much cooler toys though." Grayson replied but the others were out of ear range and Grimm shrugged not knowing what to say.
The hour turned eight something past morning, a criminal gang entered from a neighboring city town were ordered to rile up trouble.
The Gym was empty, since most residents who aren't casino regulars or criminals that love the wild 'Haven parties feel safer inside their homes. Brendan and Shawn wanted to start with their punching practice contrary to Grayson instisting they would benefit from learning proper stretching.
"You've taken boxing lessons but never thought to take… Any other martial art?" Grayson asked Shawn while she was showing off her striking form, "It seemed like the most practical one to learn." Shawn answered but Nightwing scoffed and looked at her as if he couldn't believe she was serious.
"Speaking of that bro, I was always wondering, did you learn all of this from the Dark knight himself or…?" Brendan asksd, genuinely wondering, one of his favorite heroes is his buddy's mentor, "Not really, an old hero who was part of the Justice society named Wildcat taught me everything he knew for a good year, Batman ordered me to train with him then I had to take receive training from the world's greatest fighter and one of the greatest philosophers, Richard dragon." Grayson answered while training with one of the punching bags, showing off a kick said martial artist taught him, "I regret not finishing my training from him, but Gotham and Batman needed me, maybe I'll finish it one day." Grayson finished saying with half a smile.
"How much more badass could you get?" Brendan asked rhetorically before a chuckle, Grayson's half smile changed into a stern look as he genuinely asked himself that since his fight with the Orphan, since his first bout with Deathstroke the Terminator, since his first sparring session with the guy who helped him with his Parent's killer. A lingering feeling that he needs to get better grows the more he learns about Blockbuster.
Meanwhile, in the busy business district of the city filled with innocent and average folks, minding their own business, confronting their own problems. The trouble makers are regrouping to cook their paid chaos.
"Alrighty, boys, the Demonz have been unshackled onto this dump! Andy, you're team captain. Ya gonna lead Bad Sam, Swifty, Stonk and Pete, I'll take the rest of you guys with me to where Buster told us. RIDE OUT DEMONZ, tumult this town!" Dallas, the leader of this violent and unhinged biker gang, had screamed out as loud as he could to hype the others. The gang got on their own bikes customized the way they wanted them and rode out.
An hour or so went by, each member of the gang having committed violent and vile crimes to the city in an effort to get the police's attention, which the schemer had assumed would get Nightwing's attention.
Grayson heard Harold's voice with a dire tone through Nightwing's gauntlet communicator. Grayson, Shawn and Brendan rushed over from their sparring session immediately, the hero put it on and turned up the volume for the others to hear it and they Heard Harold screaming about the chaos in the large and active even at night Business district. They also heard Harold warn them that Gorilla Grimm got in his van and got on the move to stop the gang.
Grayson brought his bag filled with his gear with him and suited up, Shawn had her gear in her bag, she suited up and flew with her makeshift jet boots awaiting where to go. Brendan had his drone orbiting around silently and stealthily over the gym in case, then he got suited up and prepped.
"Crap, she's not finished just yet but it looks like I have no choice, worth a try." Nightwing said in his head as he called his Wing from his gauntlet remote, he had been busy making repairs to it for weeks, it was wrecked up the worst it had ever been, he wasn't feeling confident in it's speed.
The Wing soared through the air, from the roof of Parkthorne to the business district but he knew it wasn't stable, still like Grimm, he couldn't sit idly by and watch them ride past blazing quick and continue leaving their destructive trails through the city.
Shawn and Grayson zoomed off after them but Grayson heard an unfamiliar and a rather gravelly voice with a calmness and confidence to it that combined to give him a disturbing feeling, the guy was speaking through the police frequency built into his mask as the hero was soaring with his wing as he slowed down since the wing wasn't fully repaired. Shawn and the gang smoothly started getting farther with Shawn keeping up.
"I know you can hear me, Nighty blue, I heard you were fast. I want you for myself so I'll be waiting at Skunk avenue, just to make things interesting, bring along any friends you want. Hurry along now." Nightwing heard the voice say still with the confidence our hero is determined to have him choke on.
He eventually realized this mysterious, gravelly, calm voice could belong to the ruthless gang's leader and founder, Dallas, who ran it in Gotham against he and his mentor but he didn't want to wonder about what happened to him.
Nightwing lands on top of a rooftop of a cafe to coordinate his friends from their comms, he didn't think he'd have to lead another team after bowing out from being leader of the Teen Titans but he accepts he's got a new team in the moment.
He gets all of their attention through their own radio and each reports something new to him. Brendan reports how Mouse is aware of the situation and wants to help as tech support, Shawn reports seeing how there's more of the Street Demonz than there are of them, Gorilla Grimm reports running into Thrill-devil and Stallion but it took him a minute to recognize them.
Nightwing gets excited hearing Grimm's news, He's had a hunch Juan wouldn't hesitate to get out of retirement once he saw it on the news of his first and most hated gang back in Gotham, and Stallion would follow his friends into battle.
He ordered Giz, Defacer and Grimm to regroup so they can chase down the others as a team but asks if Grimm could tell Thrill-devil and Stallion to meet him to go after the one who challenged him.
Stallion arrived with his truck while Thrill-devil rode his motorcycle, "You told a shapeshifting talking Gorilla about us?" Thrill-devil asked as he stopped his motorcycle, "Besides that, he told us you were lookin' for a ride?" Stallion yelled up above when the two friends had seen Nightwing perched on the roof of a smaller building. Thrill-devil looked at Stallion, remembering how he could just throw the fact one of those exist away.
"I mean, I was hoping I could count on you guys." Nightwing said with sincerity, "Yeah yeah, you were right this whole time but after this Block's gotta know're friends, so, we've got your back, Brother. We're in this deep now." Stallion replied with worry in his tone.
