"I believe you need to sit down... Doctor?"
"Stop calling me doctor Yurei... I'm not a doctor anymore."
"So what? please just sit down... you're giving me anxiety by standing next to that fake window! it's always nothing but pitch black outside this place, there's literally nothing to be looking at!" Yurei said.
"Yurei, The source of your anxiety is Tacito and not me! have you reconciled with him? No!
So then focus on that, and leave me alone!" Ned replied and turned his head to glare straight into Yurei's eyes.
The two were arguing on and off in the office, waiting for Jihi who requested their arrival, to arrive.
It's been months since all of three survivors signed their employment contracts, and the prankster prince was signed to work together with Ned on an upcoming mission, so Yurei was now like a teammate and companion to the ex-doctor, a companion Ned didn't ask for but still appreciated to a certain degree.
All of them were going to be moved, or more like forced to live in this normal world by Jihi's terms very soon, right after being given their mission.
As for what sort of contracts they have signed, Yurei signed to be given the ability to teleport to any location he desired within that normal world, a power that Jihi nicknamed, Place Jumping.
As for Tacito, he signed a witch contract to everyone's surprise, despite being offered a similar contract like the previous two had and a chance to join them on their quest, Tacito choose to become a witch mostly out of resentment towards Yurei, the guy he once considered as family in the past.
Tacito who had recently and permanently transformed into an adult via magic , was grief-stricken for loosing both people he considered his parents in an unjust manner.
The boy nearly lost his mind when he realized, that Yurei signed up a contract to save 'Only' the two of them, so being the only survivors of that day was what the Silent boy couldn't and wasn't willing to accept.
"He's cutting me off...like usual! Taci is shunning me down every time he sees me like I'm his worst enemy! and Jihi is not helping me out either...
Seriously! I get it he's pissed off, but I did what I did out of care for him." Yurei responded while curling his hands into fists.
" I'm sorry but what the fuck do you want Jihi to do about it? you have no choice but to talk to your brother yourself, explain your reasons...
Communication is the only way to fix this mess!" Ned replied, even he had a hard time understanding Yurei and the motives behind his actions.
"Stop calling him my brother! UGH!... Taci doesn't even look me in the Face anymore, let alone talk to me...
But he still talks to you Ned, like nothing happened! so can you convince him on my behalf? just once! tell him to listen to me? Please!"
"Yeah, Whatever, I'll try later...You're such a pain in the ass Yurei."
"Thanks, And I would love to match your negative energy right now but judging from your belly that you can't hide anymore, I shouldn't bother you any further...how long have you been pregnant, since clothes can't hide that anymore.
Shouldn't you be giving birth soon?" Yurei asked.
"Yeah, I am... I'm not looking forward to it, and You're right! stop bothering me!" Ned replied.
"As you wish Neddie, I'm going for a walk... since Jihi is running late again." Yurei sighted fixing his suit jacket before walking outside the office.
As he paced around in the busy corridors maintaining a business smile, Yurei's heterochromic eyes wandered aimlessly.
He wasn't focusing While he got greeted by other employees passing by him, but he tried greeting everyone back like usual until his eyes landed on a familiar red pair of eyes.
"Tacito wait!" Yurei called out for him but Tacito just rushed past Yurei, "Please wait!" Yurei called again but got no response.
When Yurei signed the contract saving his life and Tacito's, he was told that his payment seemed to be a little expensive compared to the service he'll receive, so Yurei was granted two extra wishes under the condition that those wishes aren't supposed to cause harm to anyone or be based on greed.
So Yurei decided to use one of his wishes on none other than Tacito, he asked for Tacito's ability to speak to return again, while kept the other wish unused for another time.
Yurei was about to grab Tacito's hand before he escapes him again when a voice made him back away, "Why are you outside my office? I believe you should've been waiting there for me." Jihi spoke as usual with the dark cloak drawn upon their face, this interaction allowed Tacito to escape from Yurei, but Tacito was still heading like everyone else at the end, to the office.
" I'm starting to believe you have it against me Jihi, every single time I try to speak to him You pop out of nowhere to stop me."
"Oh Yurei darling, don't place the blame on me, you're the one who did all of this! I never asked you to sign a contract to save a life that didn't want to be saved." Jihi replied.
"Easy for you to say that, when you have all this power under Your thumb Jihi!
The kid that I used to be, had no other means to survive nor to save anyone else but this! if I didn't do what I did back then, i would've become more casualty to count... and I already made a promise to my mother that I'll protect Tacito no matter what."
"Why save Tacito and not your mother? what happened to the little boy who always said, I'll protect my mother!
I was quite surprised when you signed the contract, it only had your name and your brother's." Jihi said.
"I know I'm no hero for saving myself first, but I did what I knew I can do, besides... didn't you say that when it comes to the contract, you don't have the right to question my reasons? so let's keep it at that." Yurei replied.
"Yes we agreed to that... Anyhow, you still have your second wish, when will you use it? it must have been ironic that your first wish was for Tacito to be able to speak again, yet he seems to never speak a word to you."
"JIHI!" Yurei growled.
Giggling, "Take it easy darling! We all got preferences! I'm not shaming you for who you chose to save, in the end what I just said, isn't what I personally think.
It's what your dear brother thinks, you know that's exactly the reason why Tacito doesn't want to talk to you." Jihi replied.
"He is not my brother! Can everybody stop CALLING HIM MY BROTHER!! WE ARE NOT BLOOD RELATED! IT'S JUST A STUPID TITLE GIVEN TO HIM."
"Geez breathe Yurei! I get it, but I have to remind you that brotherhood is just like parenthood in so many ways, It's not always built upon blood relations, and I do believe Tacito up till the moment he knew about the contract, considered you nothing more than a brother.
Well, at least that's what an ex-child would think...things might be different now since both of you are mature, who knows? although maturity doesn't necessarily come with Adulting, I can see that in you." said Jihi before simply walking away towards their office.
Sighting, a defeated Yurei followed the cloaked figure back to the office where both Ned and Tacito should be waiting as well.
...Few minutes later...
"I still haven't given you anything serious to work on, just some training to do... especially you Ned since your physical health is important right now." Jihi spoke as they sorted some documents on their desk, " So in the very few upcoming months or whatever it is left of this year, you will be officially tasked with your First mission...
Both of you, Ned and Yurei." Jihi added.
"What about...me?" Tacito spoke, He was leaving space between each few words as he spoke, Tacito was still not used to talking again or rather didn't enjoy it.
"I don't think I can add anything for you, Shadow has already explained to you your line of work Tacito.
And until your two friends here finish their mission...you will go first to the normal world, you'll also be provided with a fake identity, so try mingling with people there while you begin working for me.
in the end, I'm making it easier since I'm sending you to the same timeline as your original world." Jihi explained.
"Same timeline? what does that mean?" Ned asked, "Tacito here will be sent at the same date in the normal world as the last date you guys lived in your original world...
For example, if someone was living in the 60s in your world, I'm going to send them in the 60s in the normal world, get it?" Jihi explained.
Yurei quickly asked, "So what about us? I mean me and Ned? you said only Tacito." he was a little anxious of being separated from Tacito.
"You have a mission for now, while you are going to the same normal world eventually, you won't be allowed to live in the same timeline as your Tacito, until you finish your mission with Ned, Yurei.
I wanted the two of you to find me something that is scattered all around different periods of time in the normal world before that very timeline where I'll send Tacito to.
That, is your mission." Jihi responded, a look of confusion found its way on Ned's face.
"So our mission is to find something that's been like what? torn to pieces? so I get that part, but what is it exactly that we're finding?" Ned asked.
Leaning back Into their chair, " Every world has its own book and bookkeeper, The book of judgment is the record that within are registered the name of major villains and tragic events that have Affected that specific world... It's a recent thing made to help guiding a certain person to not allow history to repeat itself... we're not getting into those details.
However! The book has a defense mechanism to protect itself from been taken by the wrong hands, defense mechanism that activates if something were to happen to the book-keeper.
For example, When the bookkeeper dies suddenly, the book tears itself all around the period of time that that person lived in." Jihi Explained.
"So Did something...happen to the... bookkeeper... that the book...is scattered... in such manner?" Tacito asked.
Jihi Nodded as they continued explaining "The bookkeeper of the normal world, died as recent as your tragedy in your world... I need Ned and Yurei to retrieve all of the pages, and bring them back to me, but know that it's going to take you hundreds of years to finish this mission, but fear not because I've prepared a generous reward for that."
"Hundred ...of years? but-"
" I Know Taci, it sounds insane! but for you my boy, it'll only feel like they were gone for a day before they come back." Jihi said, "However, I still have to borrow Ned and Yurei for a month right after their mission is complete.
Ned and Yurei will have to do some important papperwork for me regarding their Mission, before they can be sent to the timeline where you'll be in Taci.
But nevertheless, to you Taci they'll be gone only for more than a month and a day, if that's what you're worried about darling." Jihi Added.
"This doesn't just sound insane, insane is an understatement." Ned spoke up, "You said you prepared a reward? what is it?" he added inquiring.
"Ah darling straight to the best point! your freedom is your reward for starters! this will be the first and last mission for the two of you, after that you won't have to work for me anymore.
And you can keep your powers too! as long as you follow the rules in using them...like don't try to bring someone already dead back to life. " Jihi replied.
"You're serious? You'll free us?!" Yurei spoke in disbelief.
"Dead serious darling."
"So...I suppose I won't see you for a couple of hundred years or even more... Say Tacito?" Yurei spoke turning his attention to the white haired guy.
" I don't care... it'll pass like...few days for...me...I won't miss...you...I don't care... anymore." Tacito replied avoiding eye contact like a plague.
"Taci...What do I have to do for you to forgive me."
"LEAVE...ME...ALONE!" Tacito replied before he got up and stormed out of the office.
Yurei defeated once again, sat sulking in his chair, he didn't dare to follow Tacito outside while being in Jihi's presence.
"Seriously you keep surprising me Jihi, but I suppose this works well for me...fine, we'll do this!" Ned replied smiling.
"Excellent! I like your attitude Ned darling, what about you Yurei?"
"Why are you asking Jihi? you're going to force us anyways...Ugh I'm not going to see Tacito for a long timeeeee I wanna cryyyyy!" Yurei replied whining and sinking deeper into his chair.
"True, I can force you but I can still be polite about it darling."
Sometimes I wish I can sign up a contract and go MIA for few hundred years in the past, I'd probably say hello to Cleopatra, try to find out who Jack the ripper was...or probably end up burnt in a witch trial... nevermind, I'm not straight, I can't handle the past.
