Reincarnation

James was an average person; He worked as a computer programmer, had black hair, and although his eyes were not extraordinary, they were black instead of brown. He had a few friends, but not many, and he had no family problems. Overall, he was very normal.

James left work as usual, feeling very tired, but today his damn boss made him work four extra hours, four hours! It was almost dark, so he hurried home because his neighborhood was very unsafe.

James's Point of View

"Damn it, aren't there any buses running at this hour?" I cursed.

As it was getting dark, it was better to run than to wait to be robbed.

Just as I was crossing a pedestrian crossing, a truck speeding dangerously passed just inches from my head.

"Not today, Truck-kun, I value my life too much to be isekai'd."

As if God heard my words, a lightning bolt struck from the sky and indeed killed me.

When I opened my eyes, I found myself in a vast, almost infinite void. I reached out my arm to see if I could touch something, but something surprised me.

"What the hell, why is my arm translucent?" Although it's quite obvious now, later I found out it was my astral body.

My scream echoed eerily. I looked around and saw several cracks from which objects emerged, entered other cracks, and so on.

The landscape was beautiful yet terrifying. Suddenly, all the cracks closed. A shiver ran down my spine as I heard:

"A human. How interesting." Just with its voice, I felt a strange sensation, as if I were a helpless prey. I turned slowly and saw it, a humanoid-shaped light, with nothing discernible on its body except for a smile with excessively sharp teeth.

The creature said, "How dare a mortal like you enter my playground?" The creature, who apparently had a god complex, laughed maniacally, but not with a healthy laugh, but rather a manic one. Its smile widened as it raised its finger.

"What the hell—" I couldn't even finish the sentence when a beam from its finger disintegrated half of my body.

"Anomaly eliminated, sorry, but you are a threat to the balance of the multiverse, well, actually, to my amusement, hehehe," apologized the entity. Suddenly, the cracks began to open slightly.

As I finished processing what had happened, I shot it a look of hatred before my soul crumbled. The entity erased all remaining parts of my soul, except for a small fraction, which slipped into the nearest larger crack. Entering that dimension could have been its greatest mistake or its greatest achievement.
