109-Endless Possibilities

As the last of the bandages came off, Renjiro looked at his reflection. His breath caught in his throat. Where he expected to see a hollow, empty socket or a scarred mess, he saw something entirely different.

"What does this mean?" Renjiro asked in confusion.

His left eye socket, which was supposed to be empty, had something in it. There was an almost translucent sclera present, with a deep, swirling crimson-red marking in the middle that Renjiro immediately thought was a maturing iris.

"Is my left eye growing back?"

Renjiro stared, unable to comprehend what he was seeing. He leaned closer to the mirror, inspecting the eye with a mixture of awe and confusion. He reached up and gently touched the skin around it, half-expecting it to disappear like an illusion, but it remained.

"This... this can't be," he whispered to himself. "Maybe my mental fatigue and remaining eye are playing games on me. I need to have a rest."

Renjiro was so shocked that he couldn't even process what was going on. His brain was already on auto-pilot because he was tired as hell, so he decided to half-believe what he was seeing.

This wasn't just a simple injury. It was something more extreme. Whatever had happened, it was beyond his immediate understanding.

Renjiro took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing thoughts. He needed rest, but he also needed answers. Deciding that rest was the priority, he resolved to investigate this new development first thing in the morning.

He moved back to his bed and lay down, closing his eyes and willing himself to relax. The exhaustion of the day finally took over, and Renjiro fell into a deep, dreamless sleep.

Early in the next morning, Renjiro got up at the crack of dawn. He could vaguely remember what happened the previous night. Once it all came back to him like a dream, Renjiro briskly got up and walked over to the nearest mirror. He had to confirm if he was dreaming or not.

'I guess I wasn't dreaming at all,' Renjiro remarked as he stared at his reflection in the mirror.

Since he had not put the bandages back on the previous night, it was easy for Renjiro to confirm that what he saw was indeed real and he was not dreaming.

'But how is this possible?' Renjiro wondered.

'Was this caused by my regeneration abilities? It can't be. Kushina only said that it only improves the healing speed of minor wounds like cuts. It should not be able to regenerate a body part. Wait, what this why I was so tired?'

'I mean, I had fought using my chains, which was hard since it was a new experience for me, leading me to be mentally tired. But maybe a part that contributed to the mental exhaustion was my body channelling resources to regenerate a new eye.'

'All in all, this is crazy because even while Madara was able to instantly heal after he got Hashirama's cells, he did not regenerate a whole other eye. Or maybe he did not do so because the need never arose. Maybe I have also never explored the limits of my regeneration.'

Renjiro walked over to a seat a couple of steps from him and sat. He needed to sit as his mind was racing with countless possibilities after what he just found out.

'But being able to regenerate another eye is broken. I can basically decide to keep removing my eyes and accumulate sharingans and go the Danzo way. I can learn the Uchiha Clan's forbidden jutsus such as the Izanagi and Izanami which would make me near immortal.'

"Sigh!"

"But it isn't that straightforward," Renjiro muttered in a low voice.

'Danzo had Hashirama's cells implanted by Orochimaru which brought some balance to that Equation.'

'So while he couldn't control the sharingans and deactivate them, the Hashirama's cells he had helped him meet the high chakra consumption rate required that having them did not affect his normal life even when he was fighting.'

'While the cells greatly helped him, they were also a double-edged sword. Once Danzo lost a majority of the Sharingans due to the constant use of the Izanagi, the balance was broken and the cells became erratic doing more harm than good.'

'There was also the possibility that the seal on his arm that he unlocked his arm before the battle might be keeping the Sharingan drain to minimal levels. But we also know how secretive freak Danzo was, maybe it was to keep his arm sealed or destroyed in case he died or lost his arm.'

'While I am sure I would have to use less chakra since I am already in possession of two Sharingans. Scratch that, two and a half Sharingans since the one on my left eye is still growing. But I am still not sure whether I could handle the 'less chakra' required without it straining my current self.'

Renjiro flicked his wrist which was holding the seal he had stored his Sharingan in and retrieved it. He then picked up a jar which was full of a greyish liquid and put the eye in it.

This was something Toda had advised him to do and the liquid was chakra water that ensured his eye was in optimal condition. The other thing that this method edged out the option of using storage seals was that it ensured that his visual dojutsu did not degrade.

Renjiro then stored the jar in a storage seal as he could not risk leaving it behind in his home. With the village council beginning to antagonize the Uchiha clan as well as Daichi and Fugaku becoming wary of him, the eye might just disappear into thin air.

'The only options I can think of to skirt around the whole chakra consumption issue is to either bank on the growth of my chakra reserves, which has been explosive since the magatama, or learn Tsunade's strength of a hundred seals jutsu.'

'The Jutsu requires me to store vast amounts of chakra over an extended amount of period of time in a specific point of their body. I can just reroute the storage to where I plan on implating the eyes. That could probably work.'

'I could also use the spare sets of eyes and awaken the mangekyo twice to gain an Eternal Mangekyo, right? The eyes are technically related since they come from one person. But awakening the mangekyo only once is a tall order and a pariah due to the negative emotions required.'

'Only one person has ever gotten their mangekyo through positive emotions, which I don't think is possible for me since the bonds I have formed as more or less loose.'

"I don't even know why I am thinking too far into the future when I don't even know how long my eye will take to completely regenerate. It could be weeks or even months before it does. If it takes long, I will need to adjust my plans."

Getting up and preparing for the day, Renjiro said, "While beginning my lessons on Medical Ninjutsu is important, I need to check in with Kushina and ask if she knows any technique that I could use to improve my passive regeneration to hasten the process of my eye healing. If she doesn't then I can always start learning medical ninjutsu."
