Team 7, accompanied by Tazuna, was making their way down the road leading away from Konoha. The sun was shining brightly, and the atmosphere was initially filled with excitement. This was the trio's first time leaving the safety of the village on a real mission. Naruko, Hitomi, and Yuto could hardly contain their eagerness.
Naruko was practically bouncing on her feet, eyes wide with wonder as she took in the unfamiliar surroundings. "Finally! Our first mission outside the village! I bet we'll be fighting tons of bandits or rogue ninjas!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with enthusiasm.
Hitomi nodded, sharing in her friend's excitement. "It's definitely a step up from those boring D-rank missions," she agreed, her Sharingan eyes subtly observing the landscape for any signs of danger.
Yuto, on the other hand, had a different sort of thrill coursing through him. 'This is it… the Land of Waves arc. This is where it all really begins,' he thought, recalling the events from the anime. He had been waiting for this moment, to finally experience the missions he had only seen on screen.
However, as the group continued to travel, the excitement quickly began to wear off. After two hours of walking through the same monotonous path surrounded by dense trees and fields, the thrill had all but evaporated. Naruko sighed dramatically, dragging her feet. "Isn't there supposed to be action on these missions? We've just been walking... and walking... and walking!"
Kakashi, who was walking calmly at the front while reading his beloved Icha Icha book, glanced over his shoulder with a lazy eye smile. "Not every mission is going to be filled with excitement and battles, Naruko. Sometimes, the journey itself is the mission," he said, turning a page as if to emphasize his point.
Naruko pouted, clearly unimpressed. "This is so boring!" she groaned. Hitomi was also beginning to look a bit restless, although she tried to hide it behind her usual stoic expression.
Yuto, though initially excited, also found himself growing weary of the uneventful trek. 'I forgot how much filler there was in these travel sequences… No wonder they always skipped straight to the fights in the anime,' he thought, a small sigh escaping his lips.
As they continued their journey, Tazuna was silently observing the trio's dynamic. 'These kids...can they really protect me from Gato's men?' he wondered, doubt flickering in his eyes as he took a swig from his sake bottle.
The forest path stretched on, the sound of birds chirping and the crunch of gravel underfoot being the only noise accompanying them. Kakashi seemed content, still buried in his book, while his students trudged along behind him, each lost in their own thoughts.
Little did they know, the real challenge was just around the corner...
As Team 7 continued their journey, the group noticed a small puddle on the path. Kakashi's eyes narrowed slightly at the sight, recognizing the anomaly. 'It's too hot for there to be a puddle here,' he thought, letting himself fall to the back of the group. 'This could be a good chance to test my students.'
Hitomi, Naruko, and Tazuna walked past the puddle without a second thought, but Yuto tensed up, recalling this scene from the anime. 'The Demon Brothers… they're hiding in that puddle,' he thought, preparing himself. He noticed Kakashi subtly shifting to a position behind him, confirming his suspicions.
Suddenly, two rogue Kiri ninjas burst out from the puddle, chains in hand, and in a flash, wrapped them around Kakashi. The chains pulled tight, slicing Kakashi into pieces, leaving Naruko, Hitomi, and Tazuna horrified.
"K-Kakashi-sensei?!" Naruko screamed, her eyes wide with shock.
Hitomi's eyes widened, her Sharingan spinning in response to the sudden danger. Tazuna stumbled back, looking like he might faint.
But Yuto remained calm. 'He's using a substitution,' Yuto thought, eyeing the attackers. Without hesitation, he activated his Kamigan and dashed forward, closing the distance in a blink. He appeared behind one of the Kiri ninjas, pressing his hand on the chain. "Let's see how you handle this," he muttered.
With a sizzling sound, the chain began to dissolve under Yuto's acidic chakra, snapping apart. The Kiri ninja turned in shock, only to be met with Yuto's cold stare.
"Naruko, Hitomi! Handle the other one!" Yuto called out, not taking his eyes off his opponent.
Naruko snapped out of her shock, determination blazing in her eyes. "You got it, Yuto!" She launched herself at the second ninja, Hitomi right behind her.
Meanwhile, Yuto's opponent lunged at him with a gauntlet-clad fist. Yuto sidestepped effortlessly, his Kamigan analyzing every movement, before countering with a Solar Ball. It struck the ninja's back, sending him crashing to the ground, smoke rising from the burn.
'I need him alive for information… Just like in the anime,' Yuto reminded himself. He quickly formed a seal, locking eyes with the ninja. "Sleep," he commanded, casting a Genjutsu that rendered his opponent unconscious.
Turning around, Yuto saw that Naruko and Hitomi had already subdued the other ninja. The rogue was pinned to a tree, tied up with ninja wire, and sporting multiple bruises from Naruko's fists and burns from Hitomi's Fire Jutsu.
Naruko's face was still pale, her earlier triumph overshadowed by worry. "W-we did it, but Kakashi-sensei… is he really…?" She looked like she was on the verge of tears.
Just then, Kakashi stepped out from behind a tree, casually waving his hand. "Nice teamwork, everyone. And no, I'm not dead," he said with a lazy smile under his mask. "I faked it to see how you'd handle an ambush."
Naruko and Tazuna yelled in unison, "You gave us a heart attack!"
Kakashi only chuckled, clearly amused by their reactions. "Consider this your first lesson in real combat. Always expect the unexpected."
Yuto let out a relieved sigh, grateful that everything had gone according to plan. 'This mission is just getting started,' he thought, feeling a thrill of excitement for the challenges ahead.
