Nano Evolution

Alex opened his eyes and tried to get up from the bed when a terrible headache stopped him.

He looked around and tried to think, but nothing came to mind. It was totally blank, like a white sheet, and whatever he did, he couldn't write the slightest word on that sheet.

For about 20 seconds, he was completely and utterly out of his mind. Until finally, he was able to think.

'what's happening here? Where am I?" he thought to himself before getting up and looking around.

He was in a large bedroom that looked awfully familiar—the pink clock on the wall, the pink closet, and the pink bedsheets.

"This is Emily's bedroom," he said aloud, jumped off the bed, and looked at the smartphone on the little desk near the bed.

'Wtf, what is this?' he thought before looking in the mirror.

"don't tell me…." he said before running out of his sister's room.

He ran down the stairs, and when he was about to open the kitchen door, he tripped and fell headfirst into the kitchen.

When he came up, he saw his sister and stepmother eating breakfast.

His sister was sad and had tears in her eyes, and their stepmother was scolding her for not eating correctly.

Their father died from a "heart attack" a week ago. Since then, their stepmother became their legal guardian and "took care of them."

She was an abusive person and hit Alex and Emily whenever their dad was not around and always threatened them not to tell their dad anything. But she still was the last relative they had left.

Alex ignored her and ran to his sister, hugged her, and kissed her on the head before looking at their stepmother with a mad look and saying, "if you dare, talk to her like that again, and I will make sure you have a slow and painful death."

Camila, their godmother, looked at Alex with disbelief and then became angry and shouted, "you ungrateful little rat, if it wasn't for me, the social services had separated you long ago …."

Alex didn't let her finish and shouted, "don't pretend you are doing this for us. I know about my father's will. If it wasn't for Emy, I would kill you right here right now, so go thank your gods, bitch,"

After saying that, Alex didn't stay there anymore and left the kitchen with his sister.

Camila was visibly shocked "how does he know about the will?"

But there was nothing she could do at the moment about it. She had no choice but to stay quiet for now "just you wait, you little rat; it soon will be your turn,"

Inside Emily's bedroom, Alex was sitting next to his sister and hugging her tightly "oh, I missed you so much, Emy. I missed you so so so much."

Emily looked at her brother strangely and said in a cute voice, "but I was only gone for ten minutes."

"that's too long; I won't let you out of my sight again, little mouse," said Alex and hugged his sister again.

"But I need to go to the bathroom," said Emelia.

"ok, but promise me that you won't go anywhere without me from now on."

"you are strange today," said Emily and continued, "ok, I promise. Now can I go??"

"you can go," said Alex before kissing her head again.

When Emily left the room, the expression on Alex's face became serious.

"How is this possible? I can swear that bitch killed me." Alex mumbled to himself before grabbing his phone and checking the internet for the latest news to ensure it wasn't all a dream.

"OZ CORP changes the world" was the hot topic on the internet.

"so it's true, I really came back to ten years ago. If this is not all a dream, then that means that I get a second chance in life. I have to use it well. I only have two days. I have to prepare everything in two days."

Alex waited for Emily to come back and then asked her to pack her bag because they were going on an adventure.

After helping her with the packing, they both went to Alex's room to grab some necessary stuff "stay here and don't move; I will be back in 15 minutes," said Alex and went to their father's office and opened the secret safe that not even their stepmother knew about.

Inside the safe, there were some cash and gold. Alex took the money and left the gold there. They would lose their worth in two days anyway, and the money was enough for them to buy supplies that would last them a month.

Then he deactivated all the smoke alarms in the house without Camila noticing.

When he was done preparing, he told Camila about the safe in his father's office as an "apology."

When she was in the office trying to figure out the combination to the safe, Alex grabbed his sister, went to the kitchen, and opened the gas without Emily noticing. He also lighted a candle not too far from the kitchen.

They got in their dad's silver SUV and drove away. Alex was already seventeen and had a license, but he still had to be careful not to get caught.

As they got about a block away from the house, an explosion sound was heard.

"you lucky bitch, I would have skinned you alive if I had the time," Alex mumbled.

"what?" asked Emily

"Nothing; I was wondering what that sound was."

"Probably some kids playing with fireworks," said Emily before playing the game on her tablet.

Two days later, a few hours before the accident.

They have been in hiding for two days, and Alex tried his best not to be found out.

He had spent all the money they had to buy necessary stuff such as food and utilities and filled the car with them to the point that there was almost no space left.

Currently, they were three hundred kilometers away from the city. Alex parked the car near a mountain and got out of the car.

"where are we, Alex?" asked Emily

"We are here for a secret treasure." Said, Alex

"Really? I love treasures. Is it gold? Are we going to dig it out of the ground?"

"no, it's not. It's something much better. You just have to wait and will come to us."

"ok, but I can't wait. Are you sure it will come?"

"yes, it will definitely come."

Today was the day that the accident that changed the world happened in Alex's previous life.

An explosion happened in the OZ CORP's secret factory, and a biological nanobot was released into the world.

The nanobot had the ability to duplicate, and in about three months, it had spread all over the world and infected every living being on the planet.

Alex was here today to get a head start on the others and get the nanobots before everyone.

Sure, it would eventually infect everyone in the world, but the quality and the quantity of the infection were different based on the person's age, gender, and some other factors.

But there was another factor that only affected some people: distance.

The nearest recorded people to the explosion site that didn't die by the explosion in Alex's previous life were about twenty kilometers away from the secret factory, and they all became elites.

Right now, Alex was about a kilometer away from the factory. He only stood so far to ensure that the explosion wouldn't affect them.

"Only one more hour,"

Alex didn't know the exact time of the explosion, but he was sure that it happened between 10 to 10:15 A.M.

When it was 9:55, Alex told Emily to lay down in the car and close her eyes as a game, and he went to the driver's seat and sat down.

Six minutes later, an explosion was heard, and ten seconds later, Alex went into a deep coma.
