With Chris gone, the tension had intensified and Elaine waited with bated breath for what was to follow. Even though she knew she shouldn't be so self confident, she felt Colin wouldn't push through with his threat. He wouldn't hurt her. At least not in the way he'd said he would. Perhaps a violent shake or so. But not murder. Definitely not murder.
She knew how much he loved her, and even though in the past, she had thought his intense love for her a silly worthless thing, right now, she realized it was the only thing stopping him from pulling the trigger. Colin loved her so much it sometimes made her wonder why he chose to subject himself to the life of coldness and neglect their marital life was, when there were hundreds out there, who yearned for that love. Who deserved that love. Who would have gladly reciprocated that love.
