After my conversation with my father-in-law, my interest in school had reduced totally, I wasn't concentrating as I use to, at the group meeting I paid less attention to what they were discussing, in fact, I was utterly hungry and tired, my bank account was red, my pocket was and no junk to keep my intestine from inflicting injuring to my stomach.
"Madam, you dey here so", one of the group members tapped me, I quickly said to her without thinking it straight,
"Na money I set find ooo", my thought came back to me after that, I turned and looked at the lady she was not curious but trying to bring out her phone from her bag, I tapped her on her back, trying to dissuade her from what I said earlier, but she brushed it off,
"Whatever your thoughts are, is none of my business, am just your coursemate," she said smiling sheepishly while she scroll her phone up and down as if she wanted to show me something valuable.
After a while, she asked that we both step outside, that she needed to share something interesting with me, initially, I thought about lots of things that would warrant her to speak with me privately, but I never cared.
"My sister, I know you need money, in fact, we all need money, seeing how the campus is treating each and every one of us".
She sighed for a while and continue talking about how she has an application on her phone that does issue out simple surveys which you can be paid for.
"What's the name of the App," I asked feeling all interested in it.
"Premise, that's the name of the App, you can download it and try it.
"Hmmm, okay, thanks"
I left her there without much concentration, I was always told that there are many internet frauds around and my parents had warned me not to delve into such.
After the group lesson which I never heard what they discussed, I ask Chineye to assist me with 500naira with the lie that my ATM card is having issues, she never probed more but was willing to give me even more. I collected the money with much hesitation and left her standing while she washed at me slowly.
I went straight to the canteen to eat and bought more sachet water and biscuits.
The day was almost gone, I laid my head down on my bed, picturing how to make money for other days to come, my mind snapped out at the thought of what my group member told me, I took out my phone and went straight to play store, typed out the word Premise, it was actually there, I downloaded it in my phone.
Funny enough I always make sure I subscribe for data rather than having airtime on my phone, the downloaded data wasn't as much and my curiosity took a much bigger turn seeing the app and installing it on my phone.
It tabled out a simple task, a medium task, and a larger task, I clicked on the medium task.
They appeared in tables with each task having its own amount on it, I read the first one, it states that I would need to take a picture of a primary school and get the reward of 200naira, and the second one was to take a picture of a tobacco shop and to packets of tobacco at the shop for verification and I would be rewarded with 500naira.
I read it more and more, feeling doubt but my curiosity increases the more, I thought about the amounts of each task to be rewarded upon completion, and I weighed the cons of fulfilling those tasks, luckily for me primary school is close to the campus and a supermarket as well.
I thought about the odds and decided to give it a try.
I got up and wore a tank top and jeans trousers with a wafers shoe in case am being chased out from school or the supermarket so I won't feel less comfortable.
It was fun for me, it eased the thoughts and stress I had lately, the exercise was exciting, and I was directed to take a shot of the entrance and a pack of cigarettes just to be sure. The moment I got home I discovered 700 nairas in my profile as part of my rewards, I was elated and tried withdrawing the money to my wallet account, but it declined.
I was paranoid at what I saw, I needed more information on how to withdraw so I went searching for my group member, I had no idea what her name is not her hostel, but I was bent on looking for her the next day.
I felt a great relief after my survey, hence I brought out my notebook to go through what we had that day, it was quite interesting that the topic was as new to me.
I was deep in my reading when my phone rang, surprisingly to see that it was my hubby calling, I didn't think twice about it but took the call.
"Hi, my love, how are you," I said blushing all over me.
"You called my dad to ask after me, why?"
I was amazed at his statement, I gaze out my eyes feeling as if he was standing in front of me.
"I have been calling you but you ain't taking your calls, I was worried and-"
"So you had to disturb the poor man? He interjected my explanations but I kept on raising my voice for him to understand what I was trying to say it fell on deaf ears, after many explanations on his side I felt the need to accept that I had made a mistake since he was still in grief due to his mother's ailment.
"Anyways, I want to sell all our wedding gifts so I can raise money for your upkeep and mine".
What!! I know how my mum and dad went far to get me most of those wedding gifts and other relatives of mine, what will I tell him, to sell? Or not-
" Hello!! Are you there?" he interrupted my thoughts
"Yes, I am, it seems you have decided to sell them, you don't need my permission then?" I said, feeling rejected.
"Don't say that, you know is for our good at least it will help you through before the term ends". He tried explaining more to my understanding but I kept on bringing up excuses and reasons not to.
"Okay, if you want to, you can sell those other gifts but don't sell my parent's gifts for I cherish them a lot" With confidence, I made those words, I wasn't there with him but felt that my opinion would be acceptable.
He concurred without hesitation and states that by tomorrow he would sell them and share the money in three's, he insisted on giving me two parts while the other one is for him.
I was happy after all.
