Chapter 50

It was early in the morning when the sound of a bullhorn awoke Cameron. They sprang out of the bed as Megan glanced through the curtains. One could see black vehicles surrounding the parking lot to obscure the evacuated patrons' vision. A crude shadow of a chopper hovered across the pool.

'There's too many of them...How did they even find us?'

"Get in the tub," Cameron told Megan.

"We can't fight our way out!" Megan scolded.

"I know that, but they may not wanna arrest me." Cameron cautioned while heading for the door.

'Blocking them wouldn't be difficult, but no way we outrun them. If I disabled the chopper and took off would they all chase me or wait to grab the others?'

"This is your last chance!"Omar announced.

Cameron stepped out onto the balcony as all the guns fixated in his direction. Mika was surprised to see how human Cameron appeared, but she didn't lower her pistol. Cameron noticed a formation of agents with unusual-looking weapons.

The ones by the pool were armed with rifles. On the bottom was a large drum with a golden tube trailing to the stock. Instead of a standard rifle barrel, the end resembled a folded umbrella.

Standing by the stairwell aiming at Cameron's head were agents with bulky pistols. They were jet black with gold tubes trailing along the slide. The agents had them shouldered with a reinforced stock to absorb the impact.

"Place your hands behind your head, and interlock your fingertips." An agent ordered while flicking a switch on his pistol.

'There's no telling the damage they can do. If I act rashly the others could get hurt.' Cameron did as he was instructed.

"Spread your legs slowly."

Once Cameron was off-balance they moved in quickly taking him to the ground. The cuffs fastened to his wrist administered a powerful jolt of electricity. It didn't stop till Cameron lost consciousness and was dosed with a powerful sedative.

"We need to move quickly," Murphy ordered as the chopper descended.

Two agents hauled Cameron down the steps as the others breached. They quickly apprehended Megan and escorted her to the car. On the way she noticed their van missing along with Jordan.

'He wouldn't.'

Loading into the chopper was Garrett, and Omar. When seeing the manner that Cameron was being carried she began struggling. The two guys restraining her had to get serious.

"What did you do to him?" Megan protested.

"We have another pair if you wanna see for yourself." The agent replied.

'She truly wants to be at his side.' Mika approached.

"The sooner you calm down the quicker you'll get answers," Mika stated.

Watching the chopper take off Megan's eyes began to water. She tried to gauge its destination, but it disappeared over the mountain. Mika took over her handling and loaded Megan into the van.

While Cameron was raced to S4 Megan was taken to the local station. During the drive, Megan didn't utter a word and seemed void of life. She went through a standard intake and was led to a special interrogation room.

Walking down the hall Megan glanced over noticing a familiar face. Noticing the absence of cuffs she dashed forward kicking the door open. Mika quickly tried to grab Megan, but she already kicked Jordan from his chair.

"Why?!" Megan shouted while kicking him frantically.

"That's enough." Mika pulled Megan away.

Jordan got up from the ground while spitting blood, and looked towards Megan.

"It's the only way we can go home." Jordan wiped his chin.

"He was your friend!" Megan retorted.

"Quit being delusional!" Jordan shouted while striking the wall.

Being apprehended, and finally witnessing a response Megan went silent. The concerned look on his face seemed genuine, and she recalled his previous outburst.

"Something changed that day, and I know you noticed it," Jordan told Megan.

"Let's go." Mika pulled her along.

"We trusted you." Megan refused to look in his direction a second longer.

"You need to calm down or the deal won't hold," Mika stated.

"What deal?" Megan investigated.

"You're in handcuffs because of the behavior with our agents. Once you calm down we can take them off, and debrief you. If all goes well you will be released along with your friend." Mika explained.

"He's not my friend, and I'm not going anywhere without Cameron." Megan declared.

'I should've left her with the others.' Mika sighed.

After reaching the interrogation room Mika retrieved her phone. She carefully scanned Megan for any anomalies. Mika froze after glancing at her screen and quickly cleared the results.

'If the others find out they won't let her go...'

Mika took a seat at the table and retrieved footage from San Diego streets. She screen mirrored onto a nearby tv for Megan to see. They were strolling the city, and she noticed their stalkers trailing in the background.

"What happened in the alley?" Mika investigated.

"You have cameras don't you." Megan retorted.

"When they exited the vehicle we switched to an alley cam, but it was difficult to see you two. Not long after the scuffle began every camera, and radio on a two-block radius went on the fritz." Mika displayed a few examples.

"How does he do it?" Mika inquired.

"It's not on purpose. None of this was...If someone needs to be punished it should be me." Megan stared down at the table.

"Jeffery abducted you didn't he?" Mika asked.

"How did you know?" Megan replied.

A series of pictures appeared on the screen of the missing woman. Noticing the resemblance, and how some of them were found made her uneasy. If Cameron wasn't with her it could've easily been her fate.

"Even if it was an accident committed in self-defense we can't release him." Murphy hobbled into the room.

"Why not?" Megan turned around.

"You said it wasn't on purpose. That means he froze three states on a whim." Murphy took a seat by Mika.

"A power like that is too dangerous to roam the streets," Murphy stated.

"It was one time, and as soon as Cameron figured out how he stopped it," Megan replied.
