Chapter 48

Murphy's team was arriving at a hospital with a chopper waiting upon the roof. Jacob underwent a series of tests, and they discovered his claims held true. They scanned his body closely for traces of radiation, but Jacob was clean.

After reassuring Jacob about the consequences of speaking out, he was let go free of charges. To them, it was easier to threaten and release than terminate. Especially when the target was featured on live television. Doing this only fed the conspiracies, and made it difficult to operate.

Speaking out after this warning would result in them being discredited. It could be a skeleton in the closet coming into the light or incriminating documents planted onto their computer. Those foolish enough to persist past this point were met with an unfortunate accident.

"You sure about letting him go?" Garrett asked as they ascended into the air.

"The doctor is a colleague, and no one else will believe them," Murphy replied.

"Where are we headed now?" Omar asked.

"We intercepted something odd back west," Murphy announced.

"More readings?" Mika inquired.

"Not sure yet. We only know what was said through the wire." Murphy replied.

"It's definitely in our wheelhouse," Garrett reassured them.

Back at the junkyard agents continued sweeping the area for anything else incriminating. Meanwhile, Marcus was in the back of an ambulance receiving treatment, and on his way to the hospital. The diner was barely out of sight when a chopper was seen at a distance.

While waiting Marcus had a lot of time to think about his predicament. Earlier he was convinced death was his fate, but thanks to Cameron he could see his son again. His call for backup was vague to not draw attention, but upon their arrival, it was no longer possible.

No one knew how to describe the crime scene they discovered other than a nightmare. As the medical examiners got to work only more questions arose. When asked about how it happened Marcus simply responded I don't know, and it was the truth.

The only information they got was bikers mumbling about demons as they were being loaded into a van. Before they could reach the gate a chopper landed next to the diner blocking their exit. Not long after their appearance black vehicles arrived on the scene.

"What are you doing?!"

Approaching the chopper was agent Collins of the DEA. This was his crime scene, and he didn't appreciate a sudden interruption. His men had their weapons raised in the chance of it being Trevor's allies.

"Securing my crime scene," Murphy announced while displaying a homeland security badge.

"We've been working them for years, and nothing they do could warrant your involvement," Collins replied as his men stood down.

Murphy's agents exited their vehicles and began to investigate the crime scene starting with the diner. Collins' was visually upset about this matter, and Murphy's carefree approach didn't help. He stood before Collins and displayed an order from his superiors.

"If you want I can get him on the phone." Murphy reached for his coat.

"That won't be necessary," Collins replied.

"Have any leads on the attacker?" Garrett asked.

"Our agent barely made it out with his life, and as your men will discover this wasn't your typical assault," Collins stated.

"You have no idea. I'm gonna need you to release the prisoners, and vacate the premises immediately. I also need to speak with your agent when he's stable." Murphy told Collins.

The bikers and employees went under questioning once more. Murphy was strolling the area with his agents examining the destruction. They stopped at the body bags revealing the unusual nature of their deaths.

"Do you think their man is lying?" Omar asked.

"We don't know the extent of his abilities. He could alter memories for all we know." Mika stated.

"Interrogating him comes later. Right now we have witnesses to go through, and a new grid to work from," Murphy announced.

Mika pulled Trevor to the side for questioning. It was mostly nonsense, but they got some valuable intel. Hearing how easily Cameron warded off damage was a concern. Every agent was informed as they disregarded standard ammunition.

"We need a delivery to these coordinates." Garrett relayed.

"You should've asked first," Mika scolded.

"I have full authority in matters involving his security," Garrett replied.

"Just use them with discretion." Murphy cautioned.

"I'm not using one." Mika crossed her arms.

"I don't blame you," Murphy replied.

At Nellis airforce base a team was loading dark crates with platinum discs on top. Once it was on board they were cleared for take-off. Upon encroaching their coordinates an agent opened the hatch.

He approached the crate cranking the disc at the center as the package gradually disappeared. Being experimental tech the agent was surprised to see it succeed. He released it to be dropped, and those on the ground moved clear from the beacon.

"You sure it's not gonna miss." Omar was seeking cover in the garage.

"Not being able to see it is a design flaw," Mika stated

"We can't have civilians seeing a supply drop in US airspace," Garrett replied.

"Just wait till we can cloak something bigger," Murphy announced.

A loud thud followed by a dustup spread out from the beacon. The cases reappeared as the disc burned its charge. Murphy reminded Garrett of the consequences of wasting this tech.

'I've been waiting to crack these open.'

Garrett approached the case as it popped open extending several display platforms. The agents seemed eager to access its contents, but Murphy's team knew better. They witnessed footage from the previous models malfunctioning.

'The idea of sitting in a car with them is bad enough, but firing one personally is insane.' Mika moved away from the crates.

Garrett began loading several weapons into the back of the cars as the others cleaned the scene. Once things were loaded up they set off to find the last witness. As the agents were pulling up to a hospital the manhunt continued across the state.
