Chapter 46

"Why's that?" Victor asked as the men laughed.

"Because if you don't someone's gonna get hurt." Megan crossed her arms.

Hearing the crash from the diner two bikers approached the gate to investigate. They barely reached the lock when it was forced open. The steel bar sealing the gate snapped like a twig impaling an observer. Disoriented on the ground was the other biker and he looked up expecting to see a truck.

'Not p-possible.' The biker scrambled for his gun.

At a distance, Victor heard the crash followed by a muffled shot. Trevor nodded as several members investigated the cause. They moved forward maintaining formation with guns at the ready.

"Think it's the Culebras?" Victor asked.

"Hector was pissed after the last bust, and it's definitely enough to start a war over," Trevor stated.

"Let's settle this now then." Victor placed his pistol against Megan's forehead.

Jordan tried to intervene but was struck above the eye with the pistol. He buckled under the pressure as Victor kicked him in the stomach. Once Jordan returned to the floor he had a shotgun in his face.

"It could be a raid, and if it is we need hostages." Trevor motioned men into position.

"You got a point."

Victor holstered his weapon and approached a nearby junker. He opened the trunk revealing an arsenal within. Victor smiled before retrieving an M4 and racking back the slide. At a distance, they could hear muffled screams before dead silence.

'What could make them scream like that?'

They heard a single gunshot before an arm came flying in their direction. Trevor looked down and noticed it still had a pistol clutched tightly in its hand. The bikers took cover behind steel barrels itching to hit the trigger.

"What the hell is going on!" Trevor shouted.

Rapidly sprinting around the corner was a vague figure that they instinctively shot. They watched a member drop to the ground with a horrified look upon his face. He desperately tried to crawl away from the commotion.

"De-demon." The biker mumbled before his eyes went empty.

Before running he watched three members go down in a matter of seconds. They approached the damaged gate when a piece of rebar impaled a member into a car. Witnessing a figure on the roof they too aim, but it was gone.

While looking around frantically the next man had a hole in his chest. That's when they noticed it was a human. One of the members managed to get off a shot but swiftly had his arm torn off. What he saw next made him sprint in the opposite direction.

Walking out from cover was Cameron with one hand drenched in blood. The bikers would've fired but were petrified by the black eyes. They saw a bloodstain trailing down Cameron's shoulder, but no wound was present.

"Don't just stand there!" Victor ordered while aiming.

"Take cover!"Jordan shouted as gunfire ensued.

In such a narrow area with automatic weapons, it was impossible to miss. They watched Cameron get filled with lead until their mags emptied. Cameron staggered about preparing to collapse on the ground.

"This was your savior?" Victor glanced at the captives.

One of the bikers fell back onto the ground scooting away frantically. Victor turned around to investigate an unusual sound and saw Cameron's posture returning. He realized the sound behind him was bits of lead plopping onto the ground.

Cameron's wounds rapidly sealed shut as the prism gradually appeared in his chest. The bikers still keeping it together enough to reload received no mercy. Victor watched them flop over from an icicle lodged into their heads.

Trevor fired a round into Cameron's head snapping it back. His head lifted back up slowly revealing a bullet on the surface of his skin. It required little effort to push out, and the bullets that followed received similar results.

Cameron's body was changing more than the human eye could see. His body has matured with age, but it never adapted to his power due to the block. The discomfort Cameron experienced lately was his body evolving to handle the power.

Every time Cameron's body was forced to regenerate it would speed up the process. What should've taken years to occur naturally was happening in a few days. They watched the symbols around the prism glow as something swirled within.

"Take another step, and watch what happens." Victor aimed at Megan.

Cameron's gaze fixated on Victor as those around him began to shiver. Victor experienced a sensation similar to needles piercing his skin. He attempted to pull the trigger, but his body wasn't reacting.

Victor glanced down at the frozen pistol and the arm rapidly turning black. Once the frostbite reached his shoulders ice stretched out from the pistol. Watching their comrade suffer, and feeling the same nip in the air they tossed their weapons.

"When hunting an animal it's best to give it a swift death to prevent its suffering..."

Cameron approached the shivering Victor as the others backed away from Megan. This was the first time Jordan witnessed the empty look in Cameron's eyes. He could understand being upset, but there wasn't a shred of emotion on his face.

"But that's to honor its sacrifice, and the service it will provide the land. You have nothing good to offer this world."

They watched Victor writhe in agony until Cameron snapped his fingers. After the snap ice immediately consumed Victor putting an end to the annoying sounds filling his ear. Cameron checked on Megan before extending his hand towards Jordan to help him up.

"Are you okay?" Cameron asked.

"A couple of birds swirling around, but that's it." Jordan tried to joke away the uneasy feeling.

"We need a car." Cameron glanced at Trevor.

They were still in shock about Cameron's actions, and their comrades littering the junkyard.

"Sometime today." Cameron turned their way.

"Yo-you heard him!" Trevor pushed the nearest member.

"Can you help him?" Megan asked while checking on Marcus.

"Why?" Cameron asked bluntly.

"He's bleeding out that's why!" Megan retorted.

"He's one of them," Cameron stated.

"I'm a-actually..."

Cameron's gaze fell upon Marcus as he shut up. Megan sighed as she approached Cameron making him look her in the eyes. She knew the behavior wasn't intentional, and that a part of him was still there.

"What would your mom do?" Megan asked.
