Chapter 4: A Watchful Eye
Maddie's eyes locked onto the figure in the shadows, her heart racing with a mix of fear and curiosity. Who was this person, and why were they watching her and Alex with such intensity?
As the night wore on, Maddie found herself glancing over at the mysterious figure, trying to get a better look. But every time she did, they seemed to be gone, only to reappear moments later, their eyes fixed on her.
Alex noticed her distraction and followed her gaze, but he didn't seem to see anything out of the ordinary. "What's wrong, Maddie?" he asked, his voice low and concerned.
Maddie hesitated, unsure if she should share her suspicions. "I thought I saw someone watching us," she said finally, trying to sound casual.
Alex's expression turned skeptical. "I don't see anyone, Maddie. Maybe you're just feeling a little paranoid tonight."
Maddie nodded, trying to brush it off. But she couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched, and that their perfect facade was about to crack wide open.
