Chapter 34

Ever since that snowy Christmas Day, Vlad and I became a couple. We just quietly spent time together. 1just finished up work at the mansion and I was happily walking down the hallway. Vlad and I promised to have a date tonight after I was done with work. I can't wait! The light shining in through the windows called out to me and I shifted my gaze outside.

Kira

"It's a crescent moon tonight…"

The pale crescent moon reminded me of that night…

Flashback

Nicholas

"What are you doing there?"

Kira

"…Who's there?" "Pardon. Do you know how to open this door? I'm trying to get back to the musée."

Nicholas

"What's that? 'Get back?' You're not telling me you came through that door?"

Flashback Ends

It was on the night of a crescent moon that I first came to this world. I spent a month here and then the door to my own world closed, keeping me here. And then I found Vlad. It felt like every time something major happened to me, it happened on the night of a crescent moon. 1had a feeling that something major would happen tonight, too. Just then, I felt someone stand beside me.

Nicholas

"...I always think of the night when you first came to the mansion when there's a crescent moon."

Kira

"…Napoleon."

The moonlight reflected in his clear emerald eyes as he spoke softly.

Nicholas

"Can I ask you something?"

Kira

"Sure. What is it?"

Nicholas

"Have you ever regretted coming here?"

Kira

"No. Because…" "I think it was my destiny to come here."

Nicholas

"Heh. Sounds like something you'd say. It's not bad."

Nicholas's eyes softened tenderly as he looked at me.

Nicholas

"You're going to see him tonight, aren't you? Be careful on your way there."

Kira

*I will. Thanks, Nicholas."

...I'm leaving now.

Carlos

"Hm? Where's le Voivode? A patient gave me some strawberries and I was going to serve them for dessert."

Flynn

"Lord Vlad went to go get Kira. And pushed all the chores onto us, of course."

Flynn frowned as he watered the plants. Carlos looked at him and murmured…

Carlos

"…Hey, Docteur. Do you think that Kira will stay with Lord Vlad forever?"

Flynn

"..." "I don't know. Human's emotions change like the phases of the moon." "But...I think the only person who could ever be a suitable companion for a pure-blooded vampire is someone like Kira."

Carlos looked relieved to hear that and reached down to touch a rose.

Carlos

"And we're the only ones who could keep them company." "Because…..we're flowers that will never

wilt."

Vlad and I spent a quiet night together on top of a hill that was carpeted with red roses. Suddenly remembered a question I'd been wanting to ask him for a long time now.

Kira

"Hey, Vlad."

Vlad

"Yes?"

Kira

"That day when you let go of my hand... Remember how you were going to erase my memories of you?"

He didn't want to make me sad anymore.

Kira

"If you had done that, I wouldn't have been able to go back to the past to find you." "And if you had changed the present, I might've been erased from inside of

you, too."

I'd just been genuinely wondering about it. Vlad answered me in an unwavering voice.

Vlad

"It was possible. But I believed." "I believed that even if you forgot me, I could never forget you." "And that you'd come find me, no matter what."

Hearing him say he believed in me so confidently made my heart ache with tenderness.

Kira

"Even though you had nothing to base it on?"

Vlad

"…Yes."

Kira

"But even if I had found you, you would've had to wait even longer than you did now."

Vlad

"I told you, I would wait for you forever."

Flashback

Kira

"I'm sorry it took me so long, Vlad. But...I finally found you."

Vlad

"..."

Kira

"I'm so sorry I didn't realize even though you spent so much time with me. I hurt you so much."

Vlad

"You didn't take long. You found me that day, so long ago. And..." " I could wait an eternity for you."

Flashback Ends

After I had crossed time and space to hug Vlad again, he'd said the same thing to me. Since he truly would live for all eternity, he understood what the world meant. He knew just how extraordinary it was. And yet he trusted in our destiny and told me he would wait for that long for me. I want to stay by your side, Vlad. I never, ever want to leave you alone again. I'd felt that strongly in my heart since the day I'd hugged him again. It was calm as the serene ocean, and as certain as it could be. Suddenly Vlad looked up at the sky.

Vlad

"...Kira. The world is so beautiful today. All of its creatures seem to be singing with life."

The world was cruel and merciless, but sometimes it could be dazzlingly beautiful. Even this moment brought us one more second closer to the end of the world. And yet-

Vlad

"I won't give up protecting the world. I decided that the day I saw the end of the world."

Kira

"I know."

Vlad

"But ever since you came back to me, that ambition has turned into a dream."

Kira

"A dream?"

Vlad

"Yes. Not a plan that must be carried out no matter what. But I dream I want to come true."

He was willing to look for a way to save the world without sacrificing anyone else. And he wouldn't be alone. He would have me and everyone else to help him.

Vlad

"…Thanks, Kira."

He smiled so beautifully I couldn't take my eyes off of him. Suddenly, I felt something cold on my cheeks. Hooked up and saw snowflakes falling down from the sky like feathers from the wings of an angel. They began covering the beautiful roses in a blanket of white. Sometimes the world showed us the most beautiful things. Vlad smiled and said his ambition had turned into a dream. And I wanted to protect this beautiful world with him. You waited for me for an eternity…and I want to stay with you forever. But unless something changed, I wouldn't have enough time. Our lifespans were too different. It wasn't an impulse, or me being sentimental--but that moment I strongly wished for it. I want more time to be with you. I want...eternity.

Kira

"Vlad. I want you to…"

I Was about to tell him how I felt and he gently touched my cheek.

Vlad

"You're the only one who can watch over me, Kira. Become a vampire."

He smiled as if he knew this moment would come from the moment we met. As I gazed into his eyes, I thought of what Sander told me before.

Flashback

Sander

"He feels all kinds of emotions and accepts everything and everyone with a beautiful smile as he tries to protect the earth." "Right now it feels heartbreaking. I find myself thinking how things might be easier if only he went mad."

Flashback Ends

He said if Vlad had gone mad, or if he really had become a god, he wouldn't have suffered so much. I was the one who kept Vlad together. And I'm the only one who can. I found him when he was a little boy, on the worst day of his life. He was able to keep his sanity and continue on living because of the promise we made. But at the same time, he suffered because I had to leave him alone to live in this cruel world by himself. I don't know if it's right to say that this love is destiny. And I don't know if it's allowed for me to choose my destiny with my own two hands. Maybe it was selfish or arrogant of me to think this was fate. I clasped his hands, as if I were connecting our fates together with a string.

Kira

"Take all of me, Vlad. Let me stay by your side for all eternity."

A strong gust of wind sent the rose petals flying through the air just as Vlad grabbed me and pulled me to him. His hair fell softly upon my cheek as his fangs touched my neck.

Vlad

"...Kira. Will you still find me once you become a vampire?"

His eyes were uneasy, like a lost little boy's. I smiled and rubbed his back soothingly. Just as I had when I crossed time and space to comfort him when he was a little boy.

Kira

"Of course I will. I will always find you, no matter what. Vlad…"

...I love you so much. I whispered into his ear just as his fangs sank into my neck, telling all of me for himself. looked over his shoulder up at the sky. All sorts of thoughts and emotions were washing over me and then disappearing. What is this feeling…? It's not regret. It's something brighter and softer. Perhaps it was strange to say that the feeling was called everlasting love.

Vlad

"Come. Come with me...to eternity."

The roses wavered in the breeze. The snow fell all around us. And I began to change.

Vlad

"…Yes. Now we will be together forever."

I listened as he whispered, every word dripping with love...and then I drowned in the maelstrom of time. Maybe I was having a very, very long dream. No...these are my memories. I saw the day when I found you standing alone in the snow.

Flashback

Kira

"Why do you look so sad?"

Vlad

"..."

I saw the day when I crossed time and space to find you again.

Kira

"Why do you look so sad?"

Vlad

"..."

And I saw the day when I found you again--and found your heart.

Kira

"I'm sorry it took me so long, Vlad. But...I finally found you."

Vlad

"..."

Flashback Ends

Vlad...No matter how many times we lose sight of each other, I will always...find you. I opened my eyes as if awaking from an eternal sleep. My beloved filled my vision.

Kira

"See? I found you again."

Vlad

"...You did. Thank you for finding me in eternity." "Kira…"

...I will love you, and only you...for all eternity.
