Chapter 4

"Matt!" Charlie called as he walked over to Matthew's locker. Class had already finished and now they had 10 minutes of free time before their next class started. Matthew poked his head out from behind the locker door and smiled at the redhead.

"What's up?" Matthew asked as he took out his Science textbook from his locker. Crossing his arms, Charlie said something quickly while looking down at his phone. "Come again?" Matthew asks, closing the locker.

"I said, Sophie wants to see you after school." Charlie repeated, slightly annoyed. Matthew made an 'o' shape with his mouth before nodding.

"Where and at what time?" Matthew asks again.

"Canteen, as soon as you can." Charlie said before he walked away.

'Rude much?' Matthew thought as he watched Charlie walk away. He sighed and walked to class which was in the other direction.

"Matthew~!" Someone's voice called out excitedly. Matthew turned around just in time to catch Sophie in his arms. Matthew was beyond confused as Sophie got off the boy, apologizing.

"Can I help you?" Matthew asked the blonde. Sophie smiled and said that she wanted to meet Matthew after school at the canteen.

"Yeah I know, Charlie already told me." Matthew said casually with a smile.

"Oh, okay. Seeya then!" Sophie winked and walked away, a few guys nearby staring at her. Matthew felt disgusted that Sophie had winked at him. She was a beautiful girl and everyone else knew it but she wasn't really his type, he just wanted to stay friends. Matthew turned around and continued mumbling to himself until he bumped into someone.

"I'm sorry!" Matthew and the guy both said in unison. "Wait, Matthew? Aren't you supposed to be in class right now?" The guy asked. Matthew looked up to see Zero looking down at him curiously.

"Oh uhm.. Yeah, I was just going to class." Matthew said awkwardly, looking around. He saw a mop of blonde hair pass by and immediately called out to him. "Hey Alex!"

Alex turned around and walked towards Matthew with a grin. "Yo, what's up?" He turned to face Zero and gave him a awkward smile before looking back at Matthew. "Let's go, class is starting soon." Alex said, patting Matthew's head. Matthew nodded and the two boys walked off, waving goodbye to Zero.

The blue-haired boy smiled and waved back before turning to walk the other way. 'Cutie..' He thought as the image of Alex flashed through his mind. Zero jumped as he felt someone tap on his shoulder. Turning around, he saw his best friend Jace standing there with a confused expression.

"You okay dude? You were spacing out." Jace questioned.

"Fantastic." Zero replied. "How 'bout you, any luck with the kid?"

"He was about to blow me but the fucking bell rang." Jace stated expressionlessly as they continued walking to class.

Zero held in his laughter and instead gave Jace a smirk. "So what happened then? Went to the toilet to finish each other off?"

"Went our separate ways." Jace shrugged.

"Damn, that's tragic." Zero laughed, earning him a death glare from Jace.

"Anyways, any progress with Alex?" Jace asked, trying to change the subject.

"Kinda?" Zero replied. "He doesn't ignore me anymore."

"Good for you then." Jace said as he pulled up the hood of his jacket to cover his head.

Just as the boys were about to continue their conversation, a teacher shouted to them at the top of her lungs. "BOYS! GET TO CLASS NOW!"

'Let's ditch and run.' Jace signed to Zero, who immediately nodded in agreement. The two boys sped towards the exit of the school and far away from the teacher who, at this point, honestly didn't seem to care about them anymore. 'I knew learning sign language was a good thing!' Jace thought as they burst out of the school building.

As they jumped over the gates, the boys suddenly remembered that they had left their bags in the building of hell. Jace cursed loudly and they silently agreed to go back when school ended to retrieve their belongings.

They loitered at the park near the school, occasionally checking the time on their phones.

xx With Matthew xx

'I wonder what she wants..' Matthew thought as he approached the canteen. It was the last hour of school but some classes had free period, including Matthew's and Sophie's. Entering the canteen, Matthew looked around before spotting Sophie. She sat elegantly at the corner of the empty room, scrolling through her phone.

"Hey Sophie, why'd you want to meet me?" Matthew smiled as he approached the girl. Sophie jumped up in delight as she saw Matthew and gave him a tight hug. Matthew didn't know what to do so he just stood there awkwardly, letting Sophie squeeze all the air out of his lungs before she let him go.

"So, you're probably wondering why I called you here?" Sophie gave Matthew a sly grin as she sat back down. Matthew nodded slowly and sat down beside her. 'That's literally the first thing I asked when I came here wasn't it?' Matthew sarcastically thought to himself.

"Well.." Sophie said as she leaned in closer towards Matthew. "You're totally my type and since we're both pretty close, why don't we start dating?"

Matthew gulped as his eyes widened. 'Shit! How do I reject her?' Matthew thought, trying not to look suspicious. "I-I uh.. I'm sorry but you-you're not really my type.." Matthew stuttered, looking away from Sophie.

"Yeah, so I thought of a few couple na- Wait what!?" The look on Sophie's face was priceless. It was obvious that she had never been rejected before and she was clearly expecting Matthew to become her new boyfriend. It took awhile for Sophie to recover from the shock and when she did, she started bombarding Matthew with questions as to why he rejected her.

After what seemed like years, the bell finally rang and Matthew apologized one more time to Sophie before grabbing his bag and dashing out of the canteen. Sophie was now furious, she had never felt so humiliated in her entire life! She also grabbed her bag and ran after Matthew, who had a head start so he was already almost out the building when Sophie left the canteen.

Much to Matthew's luck, Sophie was able to run fast enough to catch Matthew as he tried to hide in the park next to their school. She grabbed his bag from him and refused to give it back until Matthew agreed to be her boyfriend, which Matthew kept refusing.

"Sophie what the fuck!" Matthew finally snapped and shouted at her. "Just accept the fact that I don't want to date you!" Matthew glared at the girl who now had shock plastered on her face again.

As Sophie was about to whine again, they heard a deep voice speaking. "I'm only gonna say this once so give him the bag." They turned their heads to see Jace walking over to them, Zero following closely behind with a snarl on his face. Jace remained expressionless but Matthew could tell from his tone and eyes that Jace wouldn't hesitate to beat up Sophie if she didn't stop harassing him.

Luckily, Sophie returned Matthew his bag and left immediately. However, Sophie loitered around long enough to witness a scene could make her think she was hallucinating.

Matthew thanked the boys for their help and slung his bag over his shoulder before walking off. Zero smiled and walked away but Jace stayed by Matthew's side, saying he didn't feel comfortable to let Matthew walk home alone.

"Zero said he'll help me get my stuff, don't worry about it Kitten." Jace smiled cheekily at the blushing boy. For once, Matthew didn't retort and instead smiled back cutely.

"Hey.. bend down a little.." Matthew said to Jace, who complied with his request. Matthew's face turned a darker shade of red as he leaned in to quickly kiss Jace on the lips. Jace was shocked and his face instantly flushed. "Take it as a 'Thanks for saving me' payment." Matthew giggled and walked on, leaving Jace shook before running up to catch up with the shorter boy.

"Bad move Jace.. Matthew belongs to me." Sophie muttered as she walked home.
