You would never know what is the other person thinking not even if you spend twenty four hours with that person. Each mind work in a different way at a different pace. You can never assume it. Forget about feelings then. How can you act without feeling sure? That's what most people think. But can you let go of you cannot take actions at then right time? What if you miss the time and miss all all your chances altogether?
That's why you should always make sure of what you feel and then take action forgetting about the rest. If it turns successful ot is great right? If not, you have got nothing to lose but face the reality and move on with life.
Taaliyah and Derek net met several times at library during the vacation. And when he told her about the offer, he saw smile and get excited more the did.
"That's so.. I don't know, am so happy," she said to him.
"I know," he said taking her hand and squeezing them for the first time. She did not notice his smile and stare though, since she was busy being happy. "Cool really cool, but don't tell anyone until you leave," she said.
"You have decided that I will go?" he asked her.
"Why would you not?" she asked back. "Do you not want to go?"
He did want to go, but it means he will lose her. "Are you sure?" he asked her back.
But did not realize that. She hoped for him to go achieve his dreams.
"Yes, did you tell your mother?" she asked instead.
"No, father will, I don't know, let us see what happened,"
"Hmm.. okay," she said and got up. "I better go, dad uppa will come now, it's time," she said and walked to the door, holding the novel 'Powerplay' written by Penny Jordan.
"Taaliyah," he called her suddenly.
"Hmm?" she turned around. He sat in front of the piano, holding on to the bar of toblerone she gave him stolen from her dad's bakery when she was alone. He smiled.
"Take care, text me when you reach home," he said and watched her leave.
Taaliyah's heart fluttered seeing him. She did not know what to do. These days her feelings grew stronger than she expected it to be, but afraid that he might misunderstood, she did not wish to express it through words.
When Taaliyah returned home that day, she spent the time reading and dreaming about Derek.
"Are you home?" she texted him and she got the relly instantly.
"Yes, playing a game,"
"Oh okay, do do," she replied back. Derek opened his bag and checked the gift he still had not given her. He failed to hand it over at the right time. He recalled his moment Taaliyah at library, sitting next to her while he played the piano where her strawberry scented attar occupied the music room. When he glanced at her and see her smiling with her red lips, his heart skipped a beat. He wanted to reach out for her. But he never crossed his limit.
Derek got up from the bed and kept his phone away. He checked the calendar. There were only two days left for school to reopen.
Min Ah made sure she reached Derek's home early in the morning on the first day of their new academic year. Amy was glad that Derek got Min Ah and her father close to him. Tim often brought food and gifts to Derek and Amy. And they spent time often. Derek was not sure about and whenever he told John, he never sounded excited. But there was one change Derek noticed in his mother, Amy began to take care of Derek well. Cooking got better, she helped him do laundry. Derek started worrying less. He did not hear the arguments on phone with father often either. But he still was not confident enough to fell his mother about the offer.
The school reopened and everything was back to the same routine.
The greeting, morning assembly, prayer and, the class change assignment of new teacher. Luckily they were not shuffled. Hence all of Grade 8 Division A was transferred to Grade 9 Division A classroom. Their new class is on the first floor. Teacher Ameya was appointed as the home room teacher who is going to be there for the next four years for highscool. Interesting turn of events were waiting for them.
Derek ran to his news class bidding farewell with Min Ah from the parking lot. And ran upstairs and entered the class looking for someone. And she was there, she was right there talking with girl gang happy and excited to see them. He stood smiling. He walked over and Fred welcomed him.
"You buddy," Fred put his hand over Derek's shoulder. Fred had booked the desk for them. The one on the left of Taaliyah's desk, right next to her.
"Hey," she smiled and greeted him. "Ready for the new year?"
