Chapter Sixteen: The Truth is Hard to Hide

Nick stared between Jonah and Mazakin, recognizing an awkward tension.

“We didn’t even summon you, yet,” Nick muttered, still trying to get a grasp on the situation. Jonah sighed.

“Once I am summoned as your messenger and ambassador to hell you do not need a proper summoning spell again. A mere thought calling out to me will bring me here. What is it you two require?”

Mazakin spoke to Nick but kept glancing back at Jonah. Jonah kept his hands buried in his pockets.

“Um, I think first and foremost I’d like to know what is going on.” Nick threw up his hands in confused frustration.

“Please Mazakin, trust me at the very least,” Jonah pleaded. Nick continued to look back and forth and felt he was starting to gather the situation. Mazakin sighed and dropped her formal act. Jonah turned to Nick with a sheepish expression.
