Chapter Fifteen: The Beach

Jonah kept his hands shoved in the pockets on his hoodie. He had his hood up over his head and hoped that Nick wouldn’t notice how uneasy he felt. Nick adjusted the bag on his back and whistled while they walked towards the beach.

“I’m glad we are doing this together again,” Nick said in between whistles. Jonah smiled weakly as Nick glanced back at him.

“Me too.”

Nick dropped his bag in front of the open space in the ground dedicated to bonfires on the beach. Nick carefully placed the wood in his other hands into an appropriate pile and pulled out a small blowtorch to light it all on fire. Jonah stepped up to Nick’s green bag and pulled out a beer that they had bought earlier.
