Jake's pov

I could not wait for the ambulance to arrive with my baby girl lying unconscious in my arms. I carried her out of the office down the stairwell into my car. I informed Zara to call Mr. Kamau to meet us at the hospital. I drove like a madman, honking, and hooting if anyone blocked my way, and ignoring all the traffic lights and rules on my way. She couldn't die on me when I have just met her. Please be okay Sabrina. I couldn't count the number of times I had checked the backseat, just to make sure she was awake. It was all my fault. How inconsiderate and unkind for me to put a pregnant woman under pressure like that. God, please keep her safe, protect her for me. Please God, I beg you.

When I arrived at the hospital, the emergency paramedics wheeled her into the doctor's room and God, I could not stay calm. I paced, rubbed my hands on my head uncountable times, and checked constantly to see if the doctor's room opened. Was she okay? A few minutes later, a middle-aged man in his fifties, came walking straight ahead and focused towards me. When he was at arms distance, he punched me straight in my face and it hurt like hell. I staggered backward to register the shock and mostly the blow. I guess I deserved that.

"It's Mr. Kamau by the way, and you young man, you stand up straight when am talking to you!" shouted the man. What an introduction! He reminded me of my grandfather's stern voice.

As I straightened up, he continued, "I have heard a lot about you, in as much as you are a good businessman, you are a terrible human. And pray to God that nothing happens to my little girl Sabrina and my grandchild, because God help me, I will kill you with my bare hands and feed your corpse to the dogs!"

I must admit his threat sent a shiver down my spine, and he was right, I was a terrible human. I only cared about my need to be with Sabbie and did not consider how my advances would affect her health. Also, he made me miss having a parental figure like mine turned out to be the worst parent any human could have. However, it made me feel relieved that Sabbie had a guardian angel, someone to take care of her, a grandfather for her child. Thinking about a grandfather, maybe, Sabbie was dating his son. My overthinking was cut short by the doctor coming towards us. I rushed to meet him halfway.

"Are you the relatives of Sabrina Zawadi?" the doctor asked.

"Yes, am her boyfriend and this is his father-in-law" I piped back. What was I even saying? I Am sure Mr. Kamau was confused by my reply but now wasn't the time to expound and elaborate on my statement.

"Well, we have run a panel of tests and the only anomaly we found was the low blood sugar, seems like Sabrina hasn't been feeding well and that is dangerous especially in her condition. Also, MRI scans show that she had been under a lot of stress recently. We recommend her to be on continued bed rest until she delivers." The doctor said

"Is the baby okay?" I found myself asking. Look at me, being a doting father.

"Yes, the baby is in perfect condition. Right now she is sedated but you are free to take her home after you clear the bill." The doctor said.

As they say, difficult times unite people, Mr. Kamau and I agreed that I pay the bill as this was fully my fault. Also, we agreed to take Sabrina back to her apartment and take care of her together. We were now tolerant with each other and we had stayed an hour without being at each other's throats. I guess it was a good sign of a respectable friendship on the horizon.

When we arrived at her apartment, I was impressed by how tidy and clean it was. The pictures on the wall, the quotes on the wall showed how her journey had been. Her bedroom was beautiful, with the bed well and neatly spread. As we lay her to rest on the bed, I couldn't help but admire her beautiful face. But I needed coffee to calm down my nerves after the eventful day I had just had. So I went into her kitchen, brewed a fresh pot of coffee, and when I offered Mr. Kamau a cup, we began talking about Sabrina, one cup led to another story, and another cup with another story until we heard Sabrina's voice by the kitchen door, "Look at your two bonding! What a sight!"
