Chapter One Hundred and Forty Four

Third Person POV

Laura Croft Sarah's mother came back home but she was welcome with the smell of something burning, she move towards the kitchen thinking maybe nobody is inside the kitchen. But she got the shock of her life when she walked inside the kitchen and saw her daughter standing in front of the stove and was so engrossed in what she is typing to the extent of not noticing her presence. Laura quickly pushed her daughter aside and turned the stove off. All this while Laura was wondering inside her, who exactly is it that her daughter is chatting with to the extent of not noticing that food is burning.

Sarah looked at her mother and gulped deeply cause it's obvious that her mother is beyond furious. Young lady care to tell me what's going on that you decided to burn my house down? Laura asked her daughter. Meanwhile Ella who rushed downstairs when she perceived something burning was giggling softly at the door cause she know that Sarah is in deep trouble. Sarah heard Ella giggling and turned towards Ella and glared at her which the latter smiled widely in response to the glare been thrown at her. Young lady am still talking to you and don't you dare ignore me, Laura called for her daughter attention.

I was working on our company project which will be submitted first thing Monday morning, Sarah lied to her mother cause she don't want her mother to know that her kitchen almost got burnt cause she was chatting with her boyfriend. A project that will be submitted first thing Monday morning but you were smiling like a kid that just got her favorite candy, Laura pointed out to her daughter indicating that she did not buy her excuse. Sarah don't know what else to say cause she know that her mother just figure out that she is lying. Sarah cat got your tongue, am still waiting for you to tell me the reason why you decided to burn down my house, Laura reminded her daughter.

Ella was really enjoying herself from what she is witnessing right now before her, the expression on Sarah face is priceless. Ella decided to save her best friend from the situation she found herself in cause she is entertained enough. Mum let me order food for us cause am starving, when we finish eating you can ask Sarah whatever you want to ask her, Ella suggested to Laura. When Sarah heard what Ella suggested she thanked her in her heart for coming to her rescue. Okay if you say so Ella, Laura said agreeing with what Ella suggested and she turned to Sarah. Make sure you clean this kitchen and wash that pot and have it in mind we are not done with our discussion concerning why you want to burn down my house, Laura reminded Sarah.

When her mother left the kitchen Sarah heaved a sigh of relief, she is so afraid of her mother cause this is the first of her seeing her mother this furious at anyone. The worst part is that she is the recipient of such fury. Sarah quickly get to work, she cleaned the kitchen and washed the pot, her phone already forgotten. She was arranging the kitchen utensils when the door bell rang indicating that someone is at the door. Sarah was wondering who could be at the door when she remembered that Ella was saying something about ordering food for them.

Sarah walked into the dinning area and truly there are takeouts on the table. She walked towards it cause she is starving as well but she felt her mother glaring at her, she looked towards her mother direction and she is really glaring at her. They sat down and eat their food in awkward silence and from the way Sarah eyes is darting around is obvious that she won't hesitate to run for her life. After their meal Sarah opted to take away the takeouts but her mother stopped her and gestured for Ella to take it out. She turned to Sarah, I think we have an unfinished discussion, she said to her which the latter nodded her head in affirmation.

Though this is not how Sarah wanted to tell her mother about George but with the situation on ground she have no other choice but to come clean to her mother. The mother and daughter duo moved to the sitting room,each sitting opposite each other. Laura decided to talk first cause she know that her daughter is not ready to open her mouth. So are you ready to tell me who you are chatting with on the phone that you almost got my house burned.

Yes, I was chatting with my boss, Sarah answered. Laura heard her daughter correctly but what confused her is why her daughter will be chatting with her boss and she is smiling like that. Laura was still mulling over what she heard when the unexpected thoughts came into her mind. Could it be true? Laura mused. You and your boss? What is going on? Don't tell me what am thinking is true? Laura bombarded her daughter with questions. Yes Mum what you are thinking is true Sarah responded smiling shyly. Oh my God! I know it! That's why you were smiling like that, Laura said barely staying still on her seat cause she is so excited by what she just heard now.

So tell me my love, when did this happen? Laura asked. Today Mum, we became official today, Sarah replied. Wow I always knew that something is going on between the two of you but you two were pretending, no wonder he was here on new year pretending that he paying the official visit while all along he just want to spend time with you, Laura started blabbing. This is what Sarah was trying to avoid cause she know that her mother will not allow her to rest tonight thank God that tomorrow is not working day at least she will be able to sleep to her satisfaction. So tell me my dear when is he visiting as your boyfriend and do tell me his favorite meal so that I can prepare it cause I don't want to be caught unprepared, Laura inquired. Sarah deadpanned herself cause she know that this is the beginning of her mystery from her mother.
