Chapter 66

I turn and crawl away, but the guard grabs me by the hair, forcing me to stand. I yell in pain!

Tasting the copper in my mouth, I know my lip is split! "Why are you doing this, Max?!"

"You can let her go, Don. I'm sure she will behave," Max says as the guard forces me up.

Max continues. "Come here, Sam. I want you to experience this with me." Max extends his hand to me.

The guard pushes me towards him. I hesitantly walk to him, my arms wrapping around my chest.

A thought occurs to me. Is Max going to push me off the balcony?!

"This view is to die for, Sammy! You're going to love it. Look!" Max grabs me, forcing me onto the balcony. He pins me against the railing with his body.

"Nothing but blue water, the sky to match. Is this what heaven feels like?"

I struggle to get free. Max holds me in place, grabbing my face so that I can look out toward the ocean.

"Please, Max!" I cry. "Why are you doing this?!"

He turns my head, still pinning me against the railing.
