We decide to take a detour into Pennsylvania. Because of what happened in Naples, Ryder is sure someone will be waiting for us in New Jersey. Instead, we land at Philadelphia International Airport. Freddie is waiting in a black SUV for us.
Ryder slowly gets into the truck, and I follow closely behind him.
The flight attendant removed the bullet from his back and cleaned him on the plane. She said he was lucky. He would never walk again if that bullet hit him a couple of inches to the left.
She also gave him an I.V. with antibiotics, just in case an infection happened.
Why they r are prepared for such a thing is beyond me, but I am more than happy that he was getting treated right away.
Ryder falls asleep rather quickly in the car. He wakes occasionally to check on me, but I cling to him. He doesn't need his night terrors on top of getting shot.
"You did an amazing job."
