Chapter 19

I crawl back into bed and snuggle underneath my quilt. Tonight has been the longest night ever. Shutting my eyes, I wait for sleep to consume me again.

However, right on cue, someone knocks on my door.

"Unbelievable!"

I angrily kick the sheets off me for the third time tonight and storm to the door! Freddie will go missing if he is standing in the doorway!

I yank it open. "What!?" I yell.

It's Ryder.

When I see him, my anger disappears. He looks so defeated. I almost feel bad for him.

"May I come in? Please?" He pleads.

I turn and walk away. "It's your house."

Ryder walks in and closes the door behind him. I sit on the bed, my knees to my chest, and he follows.

Ryder puts his head down, looking ashamed. "The order to kill you came in weeks ago."

My mouth drops. I am exhausted, but this news brings me my second wind! "What?!" I ask in belief turning my body to face him.

A confused, worried Ryder looks over at me.
