Chapter 33 Redwood forest

"woah this forest is big, but why is it called redwood forest " asked Cana while walking through the dense forest behind me

"look closely at the roots and the leaves of the trees " I replied

Cana looked closely and found out that it had a reddish hue near its roots and it also had leaves that had bright red lines on them

"is the plant species like that in the entire forest... wait no other than the color everything else resembles normal plants how is this possible" Cana asked puzzled

I smiled a bit hearing her rambling on , looks like her classes with granny made her more interested in these things

"that's the result of the blood of the beasts that get regularly killed here"

"blood of the beasts but how and in such a large amount and how can it effect the trees this way" a bit startled she asked

"well the redwood forest is banned for all wizards except S class and their team mates which should not exceed 2 for 1 S class wizard do you know why"

" why "

" its cause the lowest level of creatures in this jungle is B class and above , there are frequent A ranks as well as a lot of S ranks as well

And because of the high magical content in the dead bodies of animals which are hunted uses the blood as a catalyst and get soaked in the soil and from there to the roots to the entire tree as a whole giving it this color"

"wow sounds cool "

" yeah it does but it also is what makes this place inhospitable

Cutting the trees gives out a pungent blood smell all around which takes a long time to go and the entire forest being filled with these trees makes it almost inhospitable"

"hmm... sounds like a waste"

"yeah, can't deny that"

"What was the quest again

"Cana asked

"Even though there is no civilization established, there is an outpost like part inside the forest for monitoring and a few weeks ago they stopped working

We have to find out why and report it"

"Alright then let's go "Cana shouted out and began running

"ha-ha wait that's the wrong way "I shouted and started running behind her

After a few minutes

"You know Karna "

"yeah"

"I am starting to feel that the ethernano in the air is increasing "

"Well, I told you about the blood getting soaked right, it also increases the ethernano in the area giving more magic to the eco system to sustain it thereby creating more stronger monsters

It's occurring cycle in a way it can be called a self-sustained ecosystem "

"that's cool but all these magic not being used seems like a waste"

"Yeah ...."

Suddenly Karna stopped walking and it struck him and he figured it out

'Damn it I thought the clue to the location of the ritual will be given here; it didn't occur to me that this forest will be where the ritual will take place

This is of course the place with one of the highest densities of ethernano in the world so the remnants of that Drakon species would be living here'

Karna then began to look around cautiously he felt like an idiot for not being careful in the beginning and missing an important point '

"Karna what happened" Cana asked a bit worriedly

"Cana don't you think the forest is too quiet and even though the forest is supposed to be filled with dangerous creatures none has attacked us till now" I said seriously

Cana's eyes widened and she too then began to look around seriously, she also took a few of her cards to use them quickly

I spread my magic around me, but I was not able to find any sort of significant life and it only added more to my worries about us being in danger.

I brought out the image of the map in my head that I had memorized before I then calculated the distance to the location and found out that we are not that far, and we will reach there by sundown

Cana and I decided to go towards the outpost and find out about what is happening here

After a few hours at sundown

We reached the area outpost and looked at it from a distance while sitting at the top of a tree my shoes that I had got as a reward before had not been used by me since I grew out of and now, I can easily move and climb without it while carrying Cana

Those earlier item awards for usage while I was a kid now, I can do most of what I did with the items while only using my body strength

"Karna can you see anything "Cana asked

"Yeah, I "I replied

The outpost was circular with a wall that protects it with two doors at two opposite ends in the wall

The wall had six lacrimas that captures images and magic density all around it and then this information is then sent to the center of the inner structure which can be said to be empty if not for a small cottage near one of the doors in case any people have to stay there

There is also a medium sized pillar at the center with a lacrima on top of it, the pillar absorbs the magic to supply for working of the lacrimas and the lacrima at the center sends the information to the magic council headquarters

The mission was to find out if anything was obstructing the working of the structure and repair it if possible if not record the problems and report back

But now the seemingly empty structure had 5 drakons the size of half the guild and one the size of the entire guild

The floor of the structure also seems to have a ritual structure drawn with what looks like animal blood

There comes the answer to the question of where did all the animals go from the forest on the way and the answer did not inspire my enthusiasm.
