Chapter 4: First Encounter

The moment I finalized my decision, suddenly, the screens all disappeared, and a bright light started to shine in front of me. I squinted and moved my hand to cover my eyes from the light.

When I moved my hand away and opened my eyes. I found myself sitting on a stone-ground in what appeared to be a broken down and abandoned building.

I scanned my surroundings for a moment before I stood up to look at my body. The first thing I noticed after looking down were the two balls on my chest that were not there before.

I stared at them for a little bit before moving on to look at the rest of my new body. My hand flowed across my smooth skin and felt satisfied with the feeling.

I made a noise from my mouth, marveling at the now higher pitch and softness of my voice.

I stared at my now unfamiliar hand, before looking at the room for any sign to tell me where I could be. (Perception Check: 3)

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find anything that could tell me where I was.

However, I found next to me the backpack with the items from my kits and pack. Next to that were my weapons, a plain long sword as well as a small dagger. Leather armor rested next to the blades.

I picked up the bag and opened it to make sure everything I had was in there. Finding the waterskin resting in a pocket on the side and clothes as well as a blank costume.

The clothes were a simple black shirt to go with a similarly simple pair of breathable pants that have space for movement, as well as pockets.

After making sure everything was in the right place and equipping the leather armor after a minute of trouble from not having experience with it, I picked up my backpack and placed it on my back. I stood up using my legs to deal with the new 54 lbs on my back.

I let out a breath of exertion from the effort before dipping my back down to pick up my long sword which I sheath at my waist and take the dagger which is sheathed along my thigh for easy access.

I started to walk around to look for an exit.

After exploring for a bit I discovered that I was in a large building that has three rooms. One being massive in size taking up most of the building with the two others by the back, much smaller in size.

They appeared to use to be a storage room and a bedroom.

I thought that this could serve as a good base if the location is good since the building appeared to be have been abandoned for a while, and even though it seems like it.

There aren't any signs of rodents or other pests.

Making a note of this in my mind I open the front door and protect my eyes from the sudden bright light from the sun.

I step out to find myself in a green forest. I look around and see that I'm in a large clearing, surrounded by tall trees that tower over me.

The tall building I just exited sat in the middle of the clearing and looked overgrown with vines falling on the walls and vegetation growing in the cracks. Flowers filled the clearing, ranging all the colors of the rainbow.

I took a moment to take a deep breath and accept that I have become a new person, in what I believe to be a new world.

After taking several moments to calm down, I began my trek into the forest to look for civilization, scratching trees as I pass them with my dagger to mark my path. (Survival Check: 13+2=15)

I manage to keep myself from getting lost and keep moving forward while observing the different varieties of plants that I pass by. I take a moment to stop and inspect a flower that sits on the side of my path. (Investigation: 13-1=12)

I can't glean much about the flower from my inspection but I can feel the softness of its petals and can tell that this flower isn't harmful and is potentially edible, even if it wouldn't provide much for me.

I continue on my journey through the forest until I reach a river. At which point I decide to break off from my currently straightforward path to move diagonally to follow the river, knowing that civilization can always be found near sources of water.

This continues until I hear some rustling in the bushes not far in front of me. I immediately stop and take a step back before ungracefully unsheathing my sword and pointing the edge at the bushes.

The next few moments feel like minutes as I wait for the animal or whatever is there, to pop out and attack me. Only for a hog with tusks to appear from the bushes.

The hog walks out and over to the river to take a drink before noticing me. He turns to me and makes a snarling noise while getting lower to get ready to attack if needed.

I stand shaking, scared at my first battle encounter in my new life. I stared at the boar for a minute before it decides that it's done waiting and starts to charge at me. (Attack Roll: 1+3=4)

I yelp and manage to step back and avoid its charge whilst stepping to the side and swinging my sword at it, hoping to slash its side as it passes me. (Longsword: 15+2=17) (Damage Roll: 1)

I manage to just barely scratch its hide, dealing a minuscule amount of damage that only seems to anger the wild beast. It spins around after its deacceleration from its charge and goes to attack me again in a rage.

(Tusk: 7+3=10) (Tusk: 16+3=19) (Damage roll: 1+2+3+2=8)

This time I am able to dodge its charge for the most part but one of its large tusks manages to land a hit on me dealing a major wound that knocks me down.

I step back in shock from the pain but am able to calm myself enough to ready an attack at the now boar that is now slowing itself to turn around and make another charge. (Longsword: 19+2=21)

(Damage Roll: 8)

I am able to catch it before it fully turns around and stab my sword into its back.

The boar squeals loudly in pain and tries to turn around and get me but I quickly take out my dagger, letting go of my sword, to try and finish it off before it can get to me. (Dagger: 18+5=23) (Damage Roll: 3+3=6)

I yell as I stab my dagger into its body several times, killing the boar. Its body stills as I pant from the battle, the adrenalin pumping in my veins.

I calm myself for a bit before the adrenalin is gone and the massive wound starts to painfully let itself known. I gasp from the pain and lay down.

I use this chance to cast cure wounds to heal the damage from the boar.

(Cure Wounds: 5+4=9)

I sigh in relief as the spell heals all the damage the boar had dealt me.

I wince at my stupidity.

"Stupid, Stupid, Stupid! You have magic for a reason! Why didn't you use it to help you fight?"

I lay there, tired from this encounter before standing back up and retrieving my sword. I'm unable to obtain anything from the boar but I stare at its dead body.

This was the first time that I had ever killed anyone, or really even physically hurt anyone, on purpose at least.

I spent a few minutes calming myself before I clean my sword and dagger of blood on the grass before sheathing the two.

I steady my breath, before continuing on my path, down the side of the river, my thoughts on civilization to keep myself from thinking about how I had just killed something.

Alright, this is the first battle encounter for me so it might be a bit terrible so advice on how to better make it more exciting would be appreciated. Can you tell me if the way I'm doing attacks and damage rolls and everything is fine or disrupting?

Anyway, thank you for reading and it will be revealed soon, as to where our protagonist has found herself in. :)

P.S Im only now realizing how complicated this is going to be since I need to have stats for all the characters that I fight and that's kinda hard when I don't really understand how to rate mobs or heroes or just normal people.
