GABRIEL KNIGHT'S POV

I decided to take a bold step. I needed to test Elena's feelings, to see if there was any chance of us being more than just a fake couple. So, I did something reckless: I brought a woman back to the suite.

Her name was Vanessa, a business associate who had always shown interest in me. I knew it was a terrible idea, but desperation drove me. I wanted to see if Elena would react, to know if she cared.

When Vanessa and I walked into the suite, Elena was sitting on the couch, reading a book. She looked up briefly, her face an unreadable mask, and then went back to her book as if nothing had happened.

"Elena, this is Vanessa. She'll be joining us for dinner," I said, trying to sound casual.

"Nice to meet you, Vanessa," Elena replied politely, not lifting her eyes from the book.
