CH 22: THE RIFT

Olivia's POV

I found Mom sitting in Clarina's room, surrounded by her things. She looked so small and fragile, clutching a stuffed bear Clarina used to sleep with. The room felt heavy with silence and memories.

"Mom," I said softly, not wanting to startle her. She didn't look up. "You need to eat something."

She shook her head, her voice barely a whisper. "I can't, Olivia. I just can't."

I walked over and sat beside her on the bed, taking her hand. "Mom, I know this is hard. But you need to take care of yourself. Clarina wouldn't want you to waste away like this."

Tears streamed down her face as she looked at me. "How do I go on, Olivia? How do I live without her?"

I felt my own tears threatening to fall. "One day at a time, Mom. We have to be strong for each other. For Elena. For Mariana."

She squeezed my hand, her grip weak but desperate. "I'm so sorry, Olivia. I'm sorry for everything."
