Chapter One

All was still, in the silent night. The time of day when all but the creatures of the night prowled in the darkness, searching for their next prey. A prey to last him for a lifetime.

Time to get this show on the road.

Morgon stood pressed up against the walls of the immense fortress of a house. Listening, waiting. Earnestly examining the surroundings of the mansion where he stood sentinel. He had his ears strained, years of practice had prepared him for this, thus allowing him to hear the slightest noise in the deadly night, already shrouded with silence. Not unlike an army officer, eagerly waiting for his mission to begin.

A lock of dark hair fell in his face, momentarily distracting Morgon from his task at hand. He moisturized his dry plump lips with his tongue, before blowing the lock of hair back to it's place. The boy breathed in the fresh air, his whole being getting agitated with all of his restrained excitable energy. Adrenalin coursed through his veins, enticing him to finish what he came for in the dark of night.

Patience. Patience is key. And it would be less joyable if I just get it over with. What's the point if I don't get any fun out of a little heist?

This was not in truth 'a little heist'. It was a carefully laid plan to enrage his so-called 'pal', dashed with a sprinkle of daunting reckless pleasure. Morgon loves pulling impulsive and reckless feats, just for the sake of his potential boredom of the ordinary life of a boy his age. His feats are both incredible and impossible for the ordinary human to accomplish, as he was indeed not an ordinary boy.

A magic wielder of considerable strength, Morgon takes full advantage of his gifts. Countless pranks, thefts, heists throughout his life ever since he gained absolute control over his magic. What else can a poor orphan boy do for amusement? was his saying as an answer to his friends whenever they questioned his motives for dabbling in the illegal side of the law.

Even though Morgon has no living family left, some years ago, he was informed of an anonymous benefactor whom had paid in advance for all his school fees, leading all the way up to his college tuition and medical bills. He can not distinguish why anyone would want to waste their money on a random orphan such as him, but he did not complain as this allowed him to have all the freedom he wants. The man, whoever he was, even sent regular packages of money once a week without delay, and no arrears whatsoever.

Nevertheless, Morgon did not expect anything from life since he was happy with his frequent escapades.

Morgon searched the close proximity with keen eyes, satisfied when once again he was met with complete and utter isolation. His sharp ears caught nothing but the strong winds overhead that filled the sky with dancing clouds. Quite a lovely sight to gaze at all night. But alas, time stops for no man.

The boy drew his eyes away from his lonely surroundings, and gazed up at the massive structure of a wall. Spanning all the way around the manision, one too high for a man to even consider climbing. Although, any climbing on his part was unnecessary. Morgon squared his stiff shoulders, built up with tension for having stayed quite still for too long. Fixating his eyes to the top of the wall, he flexed his wrists and fingers. Thus commencing his latest escapade, which he had been anticipating for a good part of his life.

As he felt the rush of adrenalin that constantly filled his core, Morgon grinned his signature wolfish grin. Right before the boy started disobeying the laws of gravity, his feet lifting off of the ground. Morgon was exhilarated at every chance he got to release his magic and the novelty of his gifts never wore off. Levitating off the ground wasn't something that the ordinary man could accomplish without the assistance of some colossal machine or the other.

God, this can never get old. How do people even live without a speck of magic in their lives?

However exciting and exhilarating his magic is, there were a certain limit to them. It required immense concentration on his part, and over exertion of magic could leave him weak and vulnerable. This was the sole reason why Morgon did not use his other magical ability, invisibility. It would have been helpful, but he did not want to wear himself out so soon. That is why he chose to do his raids in the utter darkness, the time where no sensible man roamed the streets.

As Morgon steadily floated high above the rooftops of other houses, he found that he had scaled the height of the wall as well. His grin grew wider when his eyes landed on an open window horizontal to where he was levitating close to the wall. He relaxed his hold on his magic for a while, the time it took to make his way to stand on top of the high and wide wall.

Okay, now to actually get inside the house, Morgon mused to himself, slightly panting.

Morgon curled his fingers, and stretched them out again, evoking his magic of levitation once more. He had his eyes fixed on the window, never once wavering. In a minimum amount of time, he reached the window and grabbed hold of the window frame. Without even bothering to glance inside the house, Morgon swung his legs over to the other side and dropped inside. Quite literally dropped as the window had been very high up and now the boy was free falling, silently laughing when he should have been alarmed.

Everything passed him by in a blur of colors, and the floor was coming up fast. The young magic wielder timed his descend just right, tapping into his magic at the last second and hovering an inch over the floor. He gently eased himself into the floor preventing a single sound from escaping to make his presense known in the vast empty house. Resting for a minute on the carpet floor, Morgon had released his magic of levitation and instead tapped into it's counterpart.

Leaving no space for a breather, Morgon launched himself into action, quietly surveying the room he was in. Searching for something of value for him to nab, to take back to the orphanage as a mere souvenir.

Oh these rich bastards...

He would've patted himself on his back at the amount of luxury in a single room. But then... they probably wouldn't even know something was missing unless someone told them. Now, that won't do... Ray has to know that someone had broken into his precious house, Morgon pondered thoughtfully.

There has to be something of sympathetic value here. Something that Ray and his father will undoubtedly miss... something small and convenient...

Morgon thought to himself as he went around the room, his invisible fingers skimming over the delicate and fancy little artefacts available in abundance. He must've broken into the treasury or somewhere of equal importance. As he went about his search, in no hurry as he was protected by his own magic, he spotted something that looked... odd. When he went closer to it, he found that it was exactly what he was looking for in the metaphorical haystack.

Bingo.

The boy was staring at a glasscase which held a single, simple bracelet. Though why a family of only men would have a bracelet was lost on him. Maybe it belonged to Ray's mother... perhaps it was. But that was not what drew him to it. The bracelet was a simple looking one, with the delicate engraving of the head of a wolf. Surrounded with more smaller and indiscernible carvings, and studded with several miniature white stones. It was beautiful, and it was just the thing that would alarm his pal. There has to be something important about it to be kept so securely inside a case.

Morgon let go of his invisibility after he made sure that the camera was not directed at him. In an attempt to get rid of the glass covering, he drew a hairpin out of his pocket and tried to unlock the padlock. Surprisingly, it was just the thing needed to pry open a small door set in the glasscase. He quickly snatched the bracelet and pocketed it with another dashing grin.

Now for me to take my leave.

He simultaneously tapped into both of his magical abilities and flew unseen out of the window from which he had descended. Morgon was overcome with joy that instead of levitating to the ground and walking back, he flew all the way to the orphanage, laughing.

I can't wait to see the look on Ray's face when he realises that the bracelet is missing! His father is sure to be absolutely furious!
