Monster Shorts Stories

Monster Hunter by Capcom, not the game Monster Hunter Stories, these are just shorts out of boredom and if I find any interest maybe full story for sometime because many things besides this to work on. Focus is on the monsters and not Hunters because I think its more fun to see ecology. Art by Halycon450 Deviantart

Wandering Blade

The New World beings many things, New and Old, yet one that hides surprisingly well despite its massive show.

The connection between the Ancient Forest and the Wildspire Wastes brings a small pond and a small jungle where the two lands meet, and coming from the forest comes a giant brute.

Trees crash and the smaller beasts hide as a giant comes wandering into the wastes. A big male Glavenus wandering through the night dragging its most prized possession with it.

The Glavenus tail has become dull after many fights and has come to the Wildspire Wastes to sharpen its weakened tail blade. The Glavenus, Dakota, looks for a place to rest and minerals to sharpen its tail.

He had a scuffle with the king of the skies earlier. He needs a place to rest now and to make his form of defense more formidable.

Walking through the night, Kelby and Apceros rest, yet the hunter isn't looking for a meal, yet. He continues to where the the spires are visible under a small bridge. As not far from him wanders another large beast.

Unaware of the beast walking towards him, a Diablos comes, and the current time is not good for him. The Diablos blends in with the night, not for its usually brown armor, but it's black plating.

The Diablos is a female in heat, and they are known to be far more aggressive than the normal Diablos. A variant monster far more aggressive than a regular one.

Dakota continues further, still unaware of the Diablos, bit it took notice of him.

Luckily she isn't in the mood for a battle after she fought a unworthy mate. She heads towards the Cacti that her kind usually eats and feeds to return to her home.

Dakota continues oblivious to the danger he could've fought and crosses a small gap to reach the sandy area of the Wastes, the area known for its spires. But that isn't the destination as he continues into a cave, where the goal is a nest found there and the minerals he could use.

Nearby, a Barroth walks into the area looking for a midnight meal. It has lived hard and had to run away multiple times from the tyrant of the desert, the black Diablos. And it finally gets a chance for a meal. Coming from the swamp area of the wastes, covered in mud and prepared to escape any possible fight.

It is a big Brute Wyvern like Dakota, not as big, but still dangerous. It finds its target and lowers its head as steam blows from its cranium and charges towards the spires.

Crashing down, from the spires emerge ants as they hurry to try and rebuild what has fallen. The Barroth eats the ants as they scurry, with a ravenous appetite as it has had to wait a long time for this meal.

The usual threat is currently busy, and the monsters that could cause havoc have yet to awaken. Perhaps it should come out more at night. Not that it could think like that, as it's not one of the intelligent species.

Dakota walks down the path into the cave, only to find something strange. A small creature observing a bigger threat, but it's no worries. A Rathian rests in the nest, only to awaken as it senses the tremors from Dakota.

The smaller creature unaware of Dakota turns and jumps back in fear. As it should be, for Dakota is large and strong, and a Rathian can't take him down.

The Rathian fires a flaming ball towards Dakota as he takes it and hits the queen of the land with his blunt tail. The queen retaliates with her own tail laced with poisonous hairs.

Dakota staggers and is quickly enraged, for this lower beast cannot believe such a hit could take him down. Dakota brings down his tail and scrapes it along the ground, and lightens it into a burning blade. He swings it cutting through stalactites and stalagmites like the times he cuts through his prey. His tail hits the queen, cutting of parts of her horns and effectively scaring her out of the area.

But the small creature remains. It hasn't left, and he needs his rest. Sharpening his tail blade with his mouth, going along the line that the many times he has used to make the blade sharp, he roars at the small creature. Tail blade raised tall and proud, ready to scare it away so he can finally get a well deserved rest.

Suggestions on monsters if you like or something I dunno, I'll make some stories extended with more chapters for them if I just imagine too much.
