Monster Apocalypse: Everyone has a System?

While Ethan was finishing up his homework for school. There was an apocalypse happening from afar. Suddenly the whole world shook, as the meteorite hit itself into the world's surface, causing what felt like an earthquake. There would be voices of people who would be heard, screaming within the place. As monsters arose and attacked innocent people, or contaminating them. When Ethan heard the screams, and saw the destruction, and madness happening outside his window. He knew one thing, as he said to himself. "Welp…Guess it's time to prepare". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ First time writing and posting a novel. If there are any mistakes or misunderstandings, comment. I post every week. (Mostly on Wednesday.) (PS. I feel like it is a bit slow paced. If it is not for you, don't read.)

Prologue

To be honest, I've never had a single day where I didn't smile at least once. Maybe that's because I had my mother and my sister keeping me able to smile…

I didn't know until the very next day…

That all of it would come to an end.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was almost the end of the school day. I was sitting in the front of the class, in the corner, closest to the door. I kept staring, dazed, at my teacher, Mr. Hawthorn. I picked up my phone to see how much time left I had for school. I wanted to leave because I had already finished my work early by thirty minutes, yet I couldn't leave early. I have to sit in the same chair for the rest of my time.
'Finally! Three minutes left, I can't wait to go home and sleep for the whole week of Spring break.'
I start packing up my things to get ready to go home, putting my laptop and notebook in my bag.
Once my teacher heard me packing up, he looked at the time, and looked back at the classroom full of students, "Alright, it's time to get ready to go."
When he said that, the small chattering that was happening throughout the room got louder. Mostly because of the sounds of them pushing in chairs and putting their things away. Afterwards, all of the sound was coming from the students themselves, telling their friends what they are going to do during the break.
I mostly heard, "I'm going on vacation with my family." Or "I'm going to stay at home and chill for the week."
My answer for this question was the latter.
Mr, Hawthorn kept speaking, while the students were speaking about what they were going to do. "Make sure to do the packet I gave you so you can practice for the test. It's on Monday, after Spring break."
I stood up from my chair and pushed it in, like most of the students. I didn't have any friends in this class….or in general, so I just picked up my bag and went straight towards the door.
The bell rang for dismissal as soon as I reached the door. I left out of the school doors, passing thousands of students, and started walking home.
To get home by walking was almost exactly 20 minutes. 5 minutes into my walk, I made it to the light to cross the street. While waiting for the crosswalk light to turn green, I saw something….. strange.
I saw a man going the opposite way I was going, walking with a limp. This wasn't the strange part of this, but it was the way the man looked. I could only see the back of the man, but I saw he had ruffled clothes, messed up shoes, and hair. It looked like...
Half of his face was missing from my sight.
It could just be me, I mean…. I was falling asleep in class, but I'm not going to doubt my own eyes.
The light turned green for the crosswalk, and continued to finish my way home.
'Gonna tell mom about this later when I get home.'
I was sitting in my chair by my desk, working on chemistry homework. I saw the practice work that Mr. Hawthorn gave us, but I skimmed over it and put it where it belonged. In my binder, unfinished.
'I'm not going to work that is not required to do. I already know the work quite well. I'm not going to do the same work just to find the same answers in the classroom. Sorry, not sorry."
I didn't really like doing homework, but I mean who does? (A/N: If you do, your a sociopath)
I started work to get it out of the way and I don't have to worry about it later, in case I forget to do it later on within the week.
I heard someone knocking on my door, banging on it like they were the police or the IRS.
I faced the door, "Come in!", I yelled out to whoever was outside my room door.
My sister opened the door and walked into my room partially, "Mom left to go to work, she left the food on the stove because it's still hot. If there is some food left, put it in the fridge for leftovers, okay? Also, I'm going to leave with Kayla, she came to pick me up." she explained.
I looked at her questionably,"What time are you going to be back home?"
"Around 10:00 pm", she answered.
I nodded at her,"Okay, call me if anything happens."
She gave a swift nod,"Okay". She then closed the door. I waited until I heard the front door slam shut to continue working on my homework.
Around 8:00 pm, while I was laying in bed, scrolling on my phone reading a novel, I felt the house shaking, heard a ringing in my ear, and saw a bright light outside.
I covered my ears and sat up from my bed,"What is that?!?". I yelled and walked towards the window to see what was happening.
I
Saw
Chaos…
People were running away from the rocks that were coming from the sky, buildings were coming down, and weird looking plants started to grow from the ground.
The first thing I thought of was my family.
