Noah stood up from his bed, stretching his back. The game's death penalty activates once a player dies, so he couldn't log back into the game for the next 24 hours, thus he was basically stuck.
But instead, to Noah, it was finally time to do some research. This was Noah's first time playing the game, so he didn't know much about the world and how to go about playing the game, and most importantly, the thing that happened when he attacked that monster. What was that? How did he gain HP from attacking a monster? One thing was clear: he needed to know more.
So he sat at the desk in the hospital room, on top of which was a laptop, a gift he got for his father for his birthday last year. He opened up the search engine and started typing.
He searched the Arcane's official website, a place where you can find any new updates about the game. He read a brief description of the game.
Arcane, the #1 most popular MMORPG, is set in a fantasy world filled with monsters and magical beasts. Due to a massive war, the world split into four major continents: the North, the South, the East, and the West.
An evil force is working behind the scenes, threatening to cause chaos. Find out what it is and save the world from destruction.
After finishing reading the write-up, Noah thought about it for a moment, wondering where he fits into all of this.
Then he typed 'how to gain HP from killing monsters' and pressed enter, but nothing showed up. The search page was completely blank with no videos or articles.
Thinking that was too blunt, he tried to be a bit more specific: 'how to gain HP as a healer from killing monsters.' But still nothing. It was as if he was drunk and started asking for another cup, but nothing appeared concerning the issue of gaining HP from killing monsters.
Seeing this development, he smirked, realizing he must be the only player in Arcane who can perform such a miracle. The act of killing a monster was only supposed to reward a player with experience points, but the thought of gaining HP as well seemed too good to be true.
He was satisfied with this new understanding and decided to research other useful stuff like 'where to find low-level monsters as a beginner' and 'how to fight without taking any damage.'
He spent the entire night researching, learning more about the game as the hours went by. The next morning, a nurse came to check up on him.
Sliding open the door, "Pardon me, Mr. Noah, it's time for the inspection," the nurse muttered as he entered the room.
Staring at his bed, she saw he wasn't there, and his room window was open. Shocked, expecting the worst, she shouted his name, "Mr. Noah!"
"Not so loud, you will tear my eardrums if you keep yelling like that," Noah mumbled. The nurse turned her head and saw Noah in the corner of the room, sitting in front of his laptop.
"Mr. Noah, did something happen? Why aren't you in bed?" she asked, walking closer to him. Noah turned his face away, not wanting her to see his hideous face and cause a commotion while he was busy.
The nurse saw he was on his computer, watching a battle between two players in an online game. Then she turned to look at his face but noticed he was looking away.
"What do you want, Victoria? Can't you see I'm busy?" Noah muttered, irritated by the attention she brought.
Victoria was the most attractive nurse in the hospital, with blonde hair and blue eyes. Her pink uniform fit her perfectly. When she walked past, most of the patients couldn't help but stare at her beautiful figure, for indeed, this woman was a work of art.
Victoria stood next to Noah, frustrated by the way he always ignored her during her rounds. It was finally getting on her nerves, and she decided to take a more assertive approach.
She held his jaw, turning his face to look directly at hers. "What do you want? Why do you keep making things difficult for me?" Victoria murmured.
For you see, Victoria had never actually seen Noah's face. Every time he saw her, he'd look the other way, thinking he was doing her a favor by not letting her see his face.
The two of them stared at each other. Noah remained unfazed, while Victoria gazed into his purple eyes, noticing the dark circles beneath them. Despite this, she couldn't stop herself from blushing.
She immediately let go of his face and stepped back, stunned by his beauty, though still concerned about his lack of sleep.
"Mr. Noah, it seems you didn't sleep last night. I advise you to stop what you are doing right now and get some rest," she said firmly.
"Not happening," Noah muttered.
"What?" Victoria exclaimed.
"As I said, can't you see I'm busy? Leave me be and go find someone else to bother," Noah replied, waving his hand dismissively.
Noah still had some time before the death penalty expired and didn't want to waste any second of it, but still Victoria wasn't ready to give up and his condescending attitude only annoyed her further.
She walked to his desk and closed his laptop, placing her hand on top. "Hey," Noah exclaimed, staring at her intensely.
Victoria looked away. "I insist you go to sleep, young man," she instructed. Noah sighed, realizing she wasn't going to back down and besides he had already learnt enough about the game as it is.
"Well, I guess it won't hurt to get some rest," he muttered, rubbing his hand through his hair.
He stood up from his chair, walked past Victoria, and whispered in her ear, "And please be more careful with my stuff next time. I may not be the hottest guy in this hospital, but I can assure you, I'm the most dangerous."
Those words sent goosebumps all over her body, and she kept quiet. Noah was tall and handsome, but most of all lethal when it comes to dealing with women.
He strolled back to his hospital bed and collapsed on top of it. The nurse bowed, giving him some time to himself, walked out of the room, and closed the door.
Shortly after, he fell asleep, an expression of excitement playing on his face. The preparations were finally complete, and a new play style had been born.
