You cannot break up with Avery unless she wants to.

''I am Adonis Birchwood, this idiot… no, Avery's brother. I came to take her body back to District K but this Prosecutor here says he won't allow it because he is dating my sister. I heard you are the closest person to Avery. Tell me! Do you know that they are dating?''

''Huh?'' Suleiman's eyes darted between Adonis and Prosecutor Oak for a brief moment. ''Who was senior dating?'' He asked.

''Suleiman, were you aware that Detective Avery and Prosecutor Oak were dating?'' Mariah asked.

''Well… I don't know the details but I always see Prosecutor Oak take senior home and bring her to work. If that counts as dating…. He has brought her meals a few times too.''

''Elder sister really had a boyfriend?'' Albao commented.

''I thought she was the type to remain single until she dies.''

The bodyguards mumbled amongst themselves.

Adonis turned and looked at Prosecutor Oak. ''You win!'' He said and Kai let out a relief sigh.

''What?'' Mariah couldn't believe her ears.

''This idiot, no, I mean Avery is very difficult to please. It is even more difficult for her to have a meal or drink with someone else. She would rather pay for your drinks than eat with you. If this Prosecutor really scored a meal with her, then, I give you my respect. She is my sister but I have never eaten a meal or drunk on the same table with her. Why? Because she would rather die than eat with others.'' Adonis explained.

Mariah looked at Avery. She remembered the time she wanted to have a drink with her and she refused to drink while they chatted. She turned and gave Kai a glare.

''Little brother in law, I shall leave her in your care. Whatever the doctor say, let me know. Here is my card. I will call every day to find out how she is doing.'' Adonis said and walked to the bed.

''Aye, this little fool. How did you get hurt this badly? Are you even still the Avery who didn't care about anyone but yourself? I heard because of a criminal, you threw yourself in harm's way just to save her. Aye…'' Adonis shook his head and turned. He beckoned on his assistant Albao and Albao took another briefcase from one of the men and handed it over to Prosecutor Oak.

''Have this, and use it to take care of this idiot. Don't tell her it is my money or else she won't let me off. In this world, only she can make me do what I don't want to do.''

''There is no need for that. I am capable of taking care of Avery. You don't have to. Since Avery wouldn't accept your money, then, I won't accept it either.'' Kai humbly rejected Adonis' offer.

''Whoa! Indeed, Prosecutor Oak is reliable.'' Fiona mumbled.

''Are you sure?'' Adonis asked.

'I am sure! Thank you for your kindness.'' Kai said.

''Then, how about signing this document for me?'' Adonis looked at Albao and the latter opened the case again and took out a document and gave it to Kai.

''What is this?'' Kai asked.

''This is a contract of relationship. I designed this for when Avery gets into a relationship. She is my only family. I need to protect her.'' Adonis smiled.

Kai looked at the document. It was a contract stating that if anyone was in a relationship with was obliged to sign it. It was to protect Avery in case of an unfair breakup.

''You want me to sign this?'' Kai asked

''Yes. Since Avery is in this state, if you suddenly break up with her she will be heartbroken and might attempt to take her life.'' Adonis said and Albao almost laughed.

If there was anyone who would never take her own life under any situation, that person would be Avery but his boss is acting as if she was someone that could harm herself.

Kai looked at the document carefully and asked for a pen. ''Pen!''

''What are you doing, Prosecutor Oak?'' Mariah snatched the contract and read. ''This is a binding contract. You cannot break up with Avery unless she wants to.'' Mariah said.

''I know.'' Kai replied and signed the document.''

''Am I the only one who is confused?'' Fiona muttered to herself.

Kai signed the document and gave it to Adonis. Adonis also signed his part and gave a copy to Kai.

''Now, I know you are a man I can trust. Please take care of my sister.'' Adonis parted Prosecutor Oak on the shoulder before leaving with his men.

As soon as he left, Mariah locked the door and turned to yell at Kai.

''What is the meaning of what you just did, Prosecutor Oak? And, you, Suleiman. You actually went along with him to lie?'' Mariah was so hungry that she wanted to hit a wall. She has seen the signal Prosecutor Oak gave Suleiman earlier on. That was when she caught on and knew they were lying together.

When she yelled, Fiona jumped and stepped back. ''Why is she overreacting? Isn't it good that Avery has someone to claim her?'' Fiona muttered.

''I did it because I needed to prevent that man from taking Avery away.'' Kai said. Even he didn't know why he had to go to that extent to do what he did. He just felt that he needed to say something or have a good reason for not wanting Adonis to take Avery away.

He didn't know why he hated the idea of not seeing her again. He just said the first thing that came to his mind and now he knew he was about to regret it.

''There are many ways to do that. Did you have to say she was your girlfriend?'' Mariah was so angry with the reply Prosecutor Oak gave.

''As far as I know, Avery doesn't have a boyfriend. I believe she will understand once she wakes up.'' Kai said and went to sit on the chair next to Avery.

''This is ridiculous…'' Mariah said and her phone started ringing. She took it out and answered the call.

''Hello, Chief! What? I will be there soon.'' Mariah hung up and Kai asked.

''What is it?''

''It's the office of the Prime Minister! They are going to seize all of Avery's things and put her on hospital arrest until she wakes up and confesses for killing the suspect. The Prime Minister will not stop until he punishes Avery and that is for reasons best known to himself.'' Mariah said and sighed.

''What will happen to Detective Avery now? Will she go to jail after waking up?'' Suleiman asked.

Kai thought about that morning when he picked Avery up. Someone was following her. Avery had also told him about the money earlier on. If his guess was right then the Minister wanted Avery to go to jail so that he can use that opportunity to embezzle all that money back into his account.

''The suspect is not dead. They can't arrest her because there is little evidence to prove their case.'' Kai said confidently.

''Before coming here… I heard the NIS saying that they found a knife with Detective Avery's fingerprints on it. It was the same dagger used to stab the suspect five times. There are also a lot of reporters outside the hospital and others at the station.'' Suleiman said worriedly.

''They said they found some money in Avery's name in Chase International Bank. The money belongs to the state. They believe Avery is an accomplice of the criminal. I have to get to the station.'' Mariah picked her bag and turned to look at Kai.

''It is clear they are trying to pin this on Avery. At this point, it doesn't matter how they come by it but they are going to keep adding a lot of evidences to this and then sentence Avery.'' Fiona muttered as she touched Avery's face.

''She is a member of the police force and your team member. You need to protect her. Of course, I will also do something.'' Kai said.

''I'm getting to the station. I will try and stop the reporters from publishing any false news. Let's keep in touch for any new development.''

''I will make some calls…'' Kai removed his phone to make a few calls.

''Sister Avery, you should wake up early and clear your name. A lot of bad rumors are spreading and it's not good.'' Suleiman said as he took over Kai's seat when the latter stood up.

''Avery, you have to wake up. There is no time. There are still a lot of things we need to do together. I don't have much time left.'' Fiona said as she looked at the heart monitor.

''I'm at the hospital, grandpa…'' Kai said as he walked out of the ward.

''You still haven't told me who that woman is to you.'' Justice Oak said over the phone.

''She… she is someone important to me. I can't give you the details for now. But I need to ask for a favor.'' Kai said hesitantly.

''This the first time you are asking me for a favor and it has to do with a woman? Are you still my grandson?'' Justice Oak chuckled.
