''Apparently, there is an auction there tomorrow tonight. She plans to expose the rare cultural items that the Foreign Minister went to bring back from Southern City.''
''How did you know that?'' Avery asked and Kai pulled over and turned to look at her.
''Did you even watch the video to the end?'' Kai asked and shook his head.
Avery looked at her phone and decided to check the video again. This time, she indeed heard clearly what the lady said.
''I…''
''You seem to lack comprehension too, Detective Avery. How did you become a police officer?''
''Don't insult my intelligence. This was just an oversight.'' Avery defended herself.
''So, what exactly are we going to do there? Why does she want us there?'' Avery asked.
''To catch her. Detective Sandas, to catch her, damn it. I already called for backup. No need to thank me.'' Kai yelled.
''I wasn't going to thank you.'' Avery replied and looked away.
Kai took the bottle of water and opened it. He took a sip and noticed Avery looking at him so he asked. ''Why are you looking at me like that?''
''That is my bottle of water.'' Avery said with a straight face.
''Why did you put your water close to me?'' Kai shouted and placed the bottle down. He stretched his hand to take the other one and Avery said.
''I drunk from it earlier on!'' Avery yelled.
Kai cussed and left the bottle and continued to drink. Avery smirked and picked the two bottles and placed them by her side.
….
District Museum Tower.
Kai pulled over and they got down. Avery followed Kai as he walked inside the tower.
Avery yawned and muttered. 'I wished this darn lady would just appear in front of me. I swear I will…'' Avery's phone fell down and Kai turned.
Kai furrowed his brows and looked around. Avery was just behind him but now she was nowhere to be found. He picked Avery's phone and called.
''Detective Sandas? Avery… where are you?'' Kai looked around and the phone started ringing. Kai looked at the phone for a while before answering the call.
''Hello?''
''Prosecutor Oak, it's good to finally hear your voice.'' Fiona said over the phone.
''Where is Avery?'' Kai asked and looked around the stairs.
''She is in a deep sleep. Prosecutor Oak. You and I have to talk first. Your decision will determine whether you will have Avery back or not.''
''What do you mean? Didn't you ask us to come and arrest you here?'' Kai walked up the stairs as he spoke.
''That's true but before that I need to make sure you are willing to fulfil my conditions first. I just sent you a contract. Read it and let me know what you think about it.'' Fiona said over the phone.
Kai removed his phone and opened the contract. After reading through it he asked. ''This… what is this?''
''A contract! Can't you see?'' Fiona chuckled.
''I know it is a contract but why do you want to do this?'' Kai asked.
''Avery is unconscious right now but each minute that passes by shortens her chances of waking up. Think carefully about this Prosecutor Oak.'' Fiona said.
''What is in this for me?''
''If you agree to sign this contract, I will show you where to find the evidence and the people that killed your fiancée.''
''What does that have to do with Avery?''
''The evidence you need. Avery has it. She is a witness to the crime. Shocking right? Avery had a special relationship with your fiancée that no one knew. The last person your fiancée was with before she was killed is Avery. That is why in trying to find the people who killed her and the evidence; you will need Avery's help. But as you can see, Avery is blinded by money and also doesn't seem to remember your fiancée. Her death affected her in ways you could never understand.''
''This… how do I believe that this is true?''
''I will prove it to you. Avery has a pendant. This pendant, you are quite familiar with because it used to belong to your fiancée but she gave it to Avery a few days before her death. Avery has it. She doesn't leave the house without it. She calls it her lucky charm.''
A picture popped up and Kai saw the pendant around Avery's neck.
''This… I gave Anita this pendant on her birthday.''
''Do you now believe me?'' Fiona asked.
''I do!''
''The people who killed your fiancée will find Avery and kill her if you don't protect her. I will hand myself over to you because even I have something I need to do in prison.''
The call ended and a message popped up.
''I am at the entrance with Avery. Come and find us.''
Kai looked at the message and ran out of the building. When he got outside, he saw the police surrounding Fiona and Avery.
Kai walked over and touched Avery's face. 'Avery, are you alright?'' he asked with a worried gaze.
Avery looked at him with a surprised gaze. She didn't understand why he was suddenly behaving that way to her.
''Hi, Prosecutor Oak'' Fiona said and smiled.
''Take her away'' Kai said after giving Fiona a meaningful gaze. The officers closed by handcuffed Fiona and put her in the car.
….
Avery washed her face with the water and turned to look at Kai. They were not standing by the roadside.
''Why did she look so familiar?'' Avery muttered and Kai heard her.
''Do you know her?'' He asked.
Avery shook her head. ''No, I… wait! I met her before… in front of the police department. She is… that crazy woman. I should have known then that she is a nutcase.''
Seeing her act like her normal self, Kai became relief and said. ''Looks like you are fine, since you have the energy to cuss. Get into the car, I will send you home''
''You will send me home? Prosecutor Oak, since earlier on… why are you being nice to me?'' Avery crossed her arms around her chest asking, ''are you…''
''Hey! Even if you are stupid, you should know you are not my type. Get in, I will send you home. Since, I brought you out. Tomorrow morning, we need to question the suspect together.''
Avery looked at him and shook her head. She got into the car and Kai got into the driver's seat and drove away.
