Secretly take revenge

''Senior, you are finally here…'' Suleiman said when he saw Avery entering the building.

''What is it, Suleiman?'' Avery asked.

''Denis Wu is here along with the victim. They are in the waiting room with their lawyers but…''

''But what? Speak clearly…''

''Both the victim and Denis Wu want you present. They said they won't continue unless you are there.'' Suleiman said with a worried gaze.

Avery sighed. ''What do they both want with me? I thought my work was over?''

''Chief said Constable Sanchez asked that you represent her as the deputy team leader in helping to settle the charges.''

''What? What does this woman take me for? I haven't even accepted to be in her team and she is ordering me already?'' Avery cussed.

''Senior, I can go and represent you if you are not comfortable…''

''What is not comfortable about it? I can't throw you under the heat. I will handle it myself.'' Avery let out a deep breath before going towards the waiting hall.

When Avery opened the door, she was surprised to see Kai there along with the victim and Denis Wu and their lawyers.

''Detective Avery is finally here. I thought you would never come since you took forever.'' Denis said sarcastically as he leaned back on his seat. His whole aura looked smug.

Avery ignored him and took a seat beside the Chief.

''Tonight you are not in your uniform. You looked totally sexy wearing the uniform the other day. Just my type.'' Denis said and smirked. He was unremorseful and didn't think there was anything wrong with his words.

''Mind your words, Mr. Wu! This is the police station.'' Avery said sternly.

''Mr. Wu, please…'' The lawyer sitting next to Denis pleaded.

''Alright, my apologies!'' Denis said sarcastically and chuckled.

''Detective Sandas, do you know why I asked that you should be here? It is because I want you to see the kind of man you forced me to settle with. He is not a human being but an animal that has animalistic instincts. He is unrepentant and will still go on to commit more crimes. Just like the way he looks at you lewdly, he wouldn't mind forcing himself on you under different circumstances. I am just a poor person and have nothing much to lose but what about you, Detective Sandas?''

Avery clenched her fists tightly under the table. Her eyes waivered and she looked away.

''Miss Lizzy, as a police officer I only did what I thought was best for you. It is not in your place to judge me either, so let's do what we are here to do, okay?'' Avery replied.

''Detective Sandas didn't seem happy when she came to me to talk about settling. She even asked me to apologize to you but I refused.'' Denis said and Lizzy and Kai turned to look at Avery.

They had surprised looks on their faces. They didn't think Avery would have asked Denis to apologize to Lizzy.

''I'm just making things clear since everyone seems to be misunderstanding her. She almost punched me in the holding you. She even told me to run for my life when I see her in the streets. I wonder if she wants to secretly take revenge for you… I was almost scared to my wits.'' Denis chuckled.

''That's enough. Since you are here to settle you should do that. I have other things to do. My presence isn't needed here anyways…'' Avery stood up.

''Detective Sandas, let's meet outside and catch up with drinks.'' Denis said when Avery got to the door.

''Denis, stop it. This is the police station!'' The lawyer warned.

Kai turned and looked at Avery as she left the room. She closed the door behind her and walked away.

….

Avery sat at the counter with a glass of beer. She sighed and thought about everything that happened to her during the day. It was overwhelming for her and she wasn't sure how to move anymore.

After gulping down the beer, she asked the bartender for a glass of whiskey. When she was served, she gulped it down at a go and was about to order for another shot for her phone started ringing.

Avery removed the phone from her pocket and looked at the caller ID with a blurry gaze. She swiped it up and answered.

''Who is this?'' Avery asked.

''This is Prosecutor Oak. Go on the internet and see something. The lady just uploaded a video of the Minister in an adult bar with three women.'' Kai said.

''What?'' Avery yelled and her eyes opened wide at once. It was as if all the alcohol had snapped out of her body. She hung up the call and went to check the internet right away.

''Detective Sandas, Prosecutor Oak, time is precious. You two have two hours left to find me or I will release more videos and photos…''

''This crazy bitch!'' Avery cussed and the people around her turned to look at her.

Kai's call came again and she answered right away. ''Hello!''

''Where are you?'' Kai asked.

''I'm at… Dun Street…'' Avery looked around before responding.

''I will pick you up.'' Kai said before hanging up.

''He will pick me up?'' Avery muttered and took out her purse. She removed the money and placed it on the table before running out of the bar.

Avery ran to the roadside and panted for breath. She looked at her phone and a car hone blew from a distance.

Avery hurried and got into the car and turned to face Kai. ''What is going on?''

''You smell of alcohol.'' Kai said and opened his headboard. He removed a mint gum and threw it at Avery adding, ''you can drink the water. I…'' Kai turned when he saw Avery already drinking from the bottle but it wasn't the one he told her to. She was drinking from the one he had just taken a sip from.

''That's my bottle!'' Kai said and Avery choked and coughed.

''Why didn't you tell me earlier?'' Avery asked and placed the bottle away.

''You didn't wait for me to finish my sentence.'' Kai replied and drove away.

Avery took the new bottle and opened it to drink. She took a few sips and closed it before opening the minted gum to chew.

''I didn't think you were the type to drink?'' Kai said as he drove.

''And I didn't think I would ever be sitting in your car, Prosecutor Oak.'' Avery replied.

''Don't humor yourself, Detective Sandas. I wouldn't have picked you up if it wasn't extremely necessary.''

''Where are we going?'' Avery asked.

''Check your phone, she must have sent you the address to…''

''Address?'' Avery checked her messages and saw an address. 'But this is the District Museum tower. What is she doing there?''

''Apparently, there is an auction there tomorrow tonight. She plans to expose the rare cultural items that the Foreign Minister went to bring back from Southern City.''

''How did you know that?'' Avery asked and Kai pulled over and turned to look at her.
